The structure went up and it now looks like a house. The crew moved to the roof to begin installing skylights and start shingling. At this point, the subcontractors can complete drywall, plumbing, cabinets and flooring. Oaks talked about the efficiencies of building in this way. “We don’t have a lot of waste,” he said. “The home plans are run through a computer which determines how every single piece of wood will be cut. We can utilize each board for several purposes, so we’re not throwing much, if anything, away. Because the entire house is built in the same facility, trimmings from boards can be recut and used in another part of the build.
