PUCO to discuss energy choice Event planned for Sept. 5 in Oak Hill Have you been approached by door-to-door energy marketers or received literature in the mail about shopping for your electricity? Want to learn more and feel confident that the

decision you make is right for you, your family, or business? On September 5, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) will be educating Jackson County residents regarding electric choice. The event will take place at 5 p.m. at the Oak Hill Public Library in the Meeting Room (226, S. Front Street, Oak Hill).

Lauren Smalley, from the PUCO's Office of Retail Competition, will help explain your rights in choosing an electric supplier. Energy choice in Ohio allows consumers to have greater control over their electric and natural gas options and may result in valuable consumer savings.

Bon Fire is BIG — as promised

The crowd attending the pep rally was promised a huge bon fire and they got it. Wood for the fire was donated by the Austin Powder Company and Jerry's Do It Center and there were plenty of firefighters and fire equipment on scene should the blaze have caused problems. ABOVE: Prior to the Jackson-Wellston football game last Saturday night at Alumni Stadium, the Jackson High School football program honored the memory of long-time booster Jim Humphreys, who died earlier this year. Humphreys founded the local pee wee football program through the Jackson Sideliners Club in the late 1980’s, then served as the program’s annual organizer and supervisor until declining health prevented his continued service. The City of Jackson renamed the access road into Eddie Jones Park as Jim Humphreys Way. Pictured is head Jackson football coach Andy Hall presenting a plaque to Jim’s widow, Wanda, who was joined by many members of her family for the ceremony. There will be a permanent memorial to Humphreys’ memory placed in the football locker room.

A Jackson man was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash on Water Street inside the City of Jackson Tuesday morning, September 3. Jackson Police say 58-yearold Johnny Boyce, of Jackson, was driving his Ford Contour south on Water Street and was attempting to turn into the High Praise Ministries parking lot when the crash occurred. While making the turn, he failed to yield to a north-

bound Jeep Wrangler being driven by 31-year-old Seth Stockmeister, of Jackson, resulting in the crash. Boyce was taken from the scene to Holzer Medical Center Jackson by Jackson County EMS. Stockmeister and his 4-year-old passenger did not appear to be injured. The Boyce vehicle sustained heavy damage in the crash. While the Stockmeister vehicle was not damaged as badly — wrecker service needed to be called to remove both vehicles from the scene. Police say Boyce will be cited for failure to yield.
