Teaching the Whole Child

Whole-child education is an approach that recognizes the multifaceted nature of human development and learning, aiming to nurture not only academic proficiency but also the social, emotional, physical, and creative dimensions of a student. This holistic perspective emphasizes the importance of creating an educational environment that supports a student's cognitive growth while also fostering their emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, physical wellbeing, and artistic expression. By focusing on the whole child, educators strive to create wellrounded individuals who are not only equipped with knowledge and critical thinking abilities, but also possess the resilience, empathy, and adaptability needed to thrive in an everchanging world

98.6 Health Score

Bradley County Schools Nutrition Department had another great year during the 2022-2023 school year! We served 686,186 breakfast meals and 1,322,442 lunch meals to 10,000+ students across the district. To top it off, this was all accomplished while maintaining an average health score of 98.6 throughout our cafeterias. Our cafeterias hosted 15 successful Thanksgiving dinners and are already planning ahead for this year. We spent the spring semester opening a new cafeteria at the PIE Innovation Center. Our team catered the PIE Center’s grand opening event, as well as a visit from Governor Bill Lee. We’re all excited to see where this new opening leads us this year - come visit us for lunch sometime!

While counting our blessings, we’re proud to say that we were able to increase the starting pay and hourly wages for our employees this past year. We’ve gained many new team members in the past few months and are ready to kick-off the school year 2023-2024. #ComeEatWithUs

Professional Development

Elementary teachers participated in a lesson study process in which studying standards progressions, doing the math, and preparing for student solutions occurred in grade-level sessions throughout the year at each school. After collaboratively planning, teachers practiced their execution and reflected on student learning. Additional support and training was provided by the district’s math coordinators.

Elementary teachers are also learning about Self Regulated Writing Strategies to bolster student writing success through the science of writing and evidence-based strategies. This approach will guide our students to learn through writing, and writing will become part of students' everyday educational experiences.

Through a rigorous math textbook adoption process, all mathematics teachers learned about revisions to state standards and prepared to transition students to high-quality instructional materials designed to build and support mathematical proficiency in alignment with grade-level expectations.

All secondary mathematics teachers began a study of new statistics standards through our partnership with Lee University professors: Dr Laura Singletary, Dr Debra Gladden, and Billy Singletary, a 2017 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching recipient This learning will continue into the current school year and equip teachers with the content knowledge and expertise to teach the newly revised mathematics standards

Secondary ELA teachers continued the implementation of our high-quality instructional materials in StudySync.

Professional Development focused on adhering to the best practices found in the instructional practice guides and utilizing curriculum components to execute them.

A testament to their exceptional contributions lies in their unparalleled engagement with the 3rd Grade Retention law during the previous academic year. With indefatigable dedication, coaches diligently identified students, devised and s

executed supportive strategies to ensure the success of each individual, and meticulously monitored student progress to tailor interventions to meet specific needs.

The collaborative synergy fostered by Instructional Coaches, alongside other stakeholders, yielded commendable outcomes Bradley County Schools proactively initiated tutoring initiatives and supplementary learning avenues to bridge literacy gaps This concerted endeavor bore fruit, as exemplified by a remarkable 3rdgrade proficiency rate that surpassed the state average by an impressive margin of 13 percentage points on both the TCAP and its subsequent retest. This accomplishment stands as a resounding testament to the unwavering commitment of instructional coaches in their pursuit of elevating educational excellence.

Developing Future Leaders

In Bradley County Schools, fostering student leadership is a deliberate and integral part of our educational approach, starting from the earliest stages of learning. We believe in nurturing leadership potential from the ground up. The importance of teaching leadership in school goes beyond creating capable individuals; it cultivates future changemakers who will shape communities, inspire progress, and lead with empathy in an ever-evolving world. By embracing character development, nurturing leadership roles, fostering goal-setting, and offering diverse opportunities for mentorship and guidance, we are shaping students who are not only academically prepared but also poised to make meaningful contributions to their communities and the world. Through these intentional efforts, we believe that every student has the potential to become an empowered and compassionate leader.

At Bradley County Schools, I've discovered that leadership isn't just a title, it's a chance to make a positive difference every day. Whether it's helping a classmate, taking charge of a project, or welcoming new students, we ' re given opportunities to lead and inspire. My school nurtures our potential and shows us that leadership isn't about being the loudest voice in the room, but about being the one who listens, supports, and uplifts others.

Creating Leaders in Elementary Schools

Elementary leadership is fostered through a multifaceted approach that cultivates well-rounded individuals. Character development stands at the core of this initiative, guiding students towards becoming responsible, empathetic, and ethical individuals. Leadership roles within the classroom provide students with opportunities to take charge of various tasks, honing their organizational and decision-making skills. Encouraging students to write and track their goals in data notebooks instills a sense of accountability and nurtures a habit of proactive self-improvement. Additionally, the inclusion of student-led conferences empowers young learners to communicate their progress, strengths, and areas for growth to parents and teachers, fostering confidence and effective communication skills. The Jr. Beta Club serves as a platform for students to engage in community service and further develop their leadership abilities. Furthermore, the Safety Patrol program not only promotes responsible behavior but also allows students to take on vital roles in maintaining a secure school environment. Overall, these initiatives collectively contribute to the holistic development of elementary students into capable and principled leaders of the future.

Equipping Leaders in Middle Schools

In our middle schools, a dynamic and impactful leadership program known as WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) is taking center stage WEB is an innovative orientation and transition initiative that extends a warm welcome to incoming 6th and 7th graders, ensuring a smooth entry into the middle school environment The program operates on the fundamental belief that students possess the power to empower their peers, setting the stage for success Through meticulous training, 8th-grade mentors step into the roles of WEB Leaders, embodying positive role models who guide younger students as they navigate the challenges of middle school These WEB Leaders not only provide practical guidance for academic and social success but also create a welcoming atmosphere that eases the often overwhelming transition Research underscores the pivotal impact of a positive initial middle school experience on longterm success, and WEB bridges that gap by affording 6th and 7th graders support and insights from those who've tread the path before WEB emerges as a beacon of student-led leadership, steering the course toward a harmonious and thriving middle school journey

Launching Leaders in High Schools

In our high schools, a leadership program called Link Crew is at the forefront of cultivating a smooth and empowering transition for incoming freshmen The essence of Link Crew lies in its commitment to harnessing student potential to drive fellow students' success This exceptional high school transition initiative, crafted by the Boomerang Project, meticulously trains junior and senior mentors to become Link Crew Leaders These Leaders, serving as positive role models, dedicate themselves to guiding freshmen through the intricacies of the initial high school experience Recognizing that a positive freshman year experience is a cornerstone for long-term achievement, Link Crew steps in to provide vital support and insights from those who have triumphed over the challenges of high school This peer-led program extends its influence across the year, featuring components like high school orientation, structured academic follow-ups, social engagement events, and personalized leader-initiated contacts Through these facets, Link Crew orchestrates an environment where freshmen feel welcome, understood, and equipped to conquer the transitional phase, ultimately contributing to a vibrant and thriving high school journey
