MAJOR CLARITY

Major Clarity is a career exploration platform designed to assist students in discovering programs of study tailored to their high school. It enables students to document their course history, plan their registration, make informed decisions about career-focused course selections, and track their academic progress and achievements. Students begin exploring Major Clarity in 6th grade and continue building their profiles through 12th grade.

HOW IS MAJOR CLARITY USED?

Short assessments help identify career fields that may be best suited for the student

Careers suggested based on assessments. Students get to “test drive” careers

Students plan coursework in 7-12 grades to reflect interests and skills.

Post-Secondary Exploration, Financial Aid Resources, and Resume Builder

YOU SCIENCE

YouScience is a career and aptitude assessment platform designed to help individuals identify their strengths, interests, and potential career paths. Students take YouScience assessments in 9th grade, where they complete performancebased aptitude tests and interest surveys. The platform provides personalized insights to guide educational and career decisions, empowering students to align their skills with in-demand opportunities in the workforce.

CLUSTERS

Broad categories of career paths within a specific field, characterized by shared skill sets and aligned with industry areas.

PROGRAMS OF STUDY

Industry sectors organized based on groupings established by the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system and the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).

CROSS CUTTING-CLUSTERS

Clusters structured around a combination of sector-specific roles and contextualized functions, rather than strictly defined industry sectors. These clusters include subclusters and influence course selections across all Career Clusters.

2025 CAREER TECHNICAL

EDUCATION GUIDE | 10

WHAT ARE CAREER LEVELS?

Most career pathways start with entry-level positions, which can lead to advancement through experience or further education.

Students can begin some entry-level jobs while in high school.

Professional Careers require university degree or additional experience

Technical Careers

require TCAT (technical college), community college degree, or additional experience

Entry Level Careers

Require a high school diploma, industry certification, or experience

A Career Pathway will have jobs in all three levels, which build on each other from entry to professional

What Are EPSOs

Early Post-Secondary Opportunities

EPSO’s are courses where students have the opportunity to earn college credits or technical school hours while completing high school courses.

AP Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program created by the College Board that offers high school students the opportunity to take college-level courses and earn college credit or advanced placement by achieving high scores on standardized AP exams.

Local dual credit (LDC) is a high school course aligned to a local postsecondary institution’s course and exam. Students who pass the exam earn credits that are accepted and/or recognized by the local postsecondary institution. https://www.tn.gov/education/students/early-postsecondary/local-dual-credit.html

LDC

Local Dual Credit

Dual Enrollment

Dual enrollment (DE) is a program that allows high school students to take college courses and earn credit toward both their high school diploma and college degree

All students enrolled in a statewide dual credit course take the online challenge exam, which is used to assess mastery of the postsecondary-level learning objectives. Students who meet or exceed the exam ‘cut score’ receive college credit that can be applied to any Tennessee public postsecondary institution. https://www.tn.gov/education/students/earlypostsecondary/dual-credit.html

“Work-based learning (WBL) is a proactive approach to bridging the gap between high school and highdemand, high-skill careers in Tennessee. ”*

In the Classroom

In the WBL classroom, students complete a Personalized Learning Packet (PLP) to document their learning objectives, safety training, resume, cover letter and evidence of skills acquired through on-the-job experience. Students also have the opportunity to earn an Employability Skills Certification. The WBL classroom experience includes one day of in-person instruction and one day of virtual learning resulting in a portfolio students can utilize in the future.

Wright Brothers piloted a heavy equipment WBL internship class with several Bradley County students. The company designed the curriculum, purchased three large simulators, and hired an instructor for the WBL practicum. Wright Brothers Construction tailors the internship program to meet students' individual needs. They help students explore their interest and place them in areas within the company where they receive onthe-job training. Students begin in unpaid internships that can transition into part-time or full-time employment.

One of the goals of the internship program is to provide Wright Brothers with a pipeline of skilled employees who will remain loyal to the company in the future. The internship not only provides technical training, but also community service opportunities. Internship students serve by preparing meals for Bradley County Families, completing asphalt and grading projects at local schools, and various leadership opportunities provided by Wright Brothers.
