Career exploration helps students discover their interests, strengths, aptitudes, and potential career paths by building awareness and exploration. Tools like Major Clarity and YouScience play a vital role in guiding their journey, empowering students to explore and set meaningful goals, ensuring they graduate with a clear vision for their future.

CTE Programs of Study prepare students for future careers by combining rigorous academics with hands-on, real-world experiences tailored to specific industries. Students engage in internships, cooperative learning, and workbased opportunities that connect classroom knowledge to practical applications.

CTSOs are clubs or organizations related to the classroom learning in CTE Students participating in CTSOs can hold offices and learn leadership skills, compete in regional, state, and national conferences, take part in social events, and complete community service projects

Career and Technical Education (CTE) equips students with the skills for success in college, careers, and life. Bradley County Schools offers 28 Programs of Study, supported by active Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) at Bradley Central High, Walker Valley High, and the PIE Innovation Center. Students can earn Industry Credentials and Early PostSecondary Opportunities, ensuring they are wellprepared for their future paths.
CTE is designed to inspire career exploration, prepare students for post-secondary opportunities, and foster leadership development. Through hands-on learning and real-world experiences, CTE empowers students to discover their passions, develop expertise, and grow into confident leaders ready to thrive in any field

Broad, purpose-driven metasectors designed to inspire young people and guide them toward clusters that match their interests, align with their goals, and reflect the impact they hope to have on their communities.
Broad categories of career paths within a specific field, characterized by shared skill sets and aligned with industry areas.
Industry sectors organized based on groupings established by the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system and the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).
Clusters structured around a combination of sector-specific roles and contextualized functions, rather than strictly defined industry sectors. These clusters include subclusters and influence course selections across all Career Clusters.

2025 CAREER TECHNICAL
EDUCATION GUIDE | 10

Most career pathways start with entry-level positions, which can lead to advancement through experience or further education.
Students can begin some entry-level jobs while in high school.
Professional Careers require university degree or additional experience
require TCAT (technical college), community college degree, or additional experience
Require a high school diploma, industry certification, or experience

A Career Pathway will have jobs in all three levels, which build on each other from entry to professional
EPSO’s are courses where students have the opportunity to earn college credits or technical school hours while completing high school courses.
Advanced Placement (AP) is a program created by the College Board that offers high school students the opportunity to take college-level courses and earn college credit or advanced placement by achieving high scores on standardized AP exams.
Local dual credit (LDC) is a high school course aligned to a local postsecondary institution’s course and exam. Students who pass the exam earn credits that are accepted and/or recognized by the local postsecondary institution. https://www.tn.gov/education/students/early-postsecondary/local-dual-credit.html
Dual enrollment (DE) is a program that allows high school students to take college courses and earn credit toward both their high school diploma and college degree
All students enrolled in a statewide dual credit course take the online challenge exam, which is used to assess mastery of the postsecondary-level learning objectives. Students who meet or exceed the exam ‘cut score’ receive college credit that can be applied to any Tennessee public postsecondary institution. https://www.tn.gov/education/students/earlypostsecondary/dual-credit.html

Wright Brothers piloted a heavy equipment WBL internship class with several Bradley County students. The company designed the curriculum, purchased three large simulators, and hired an instructor for the WBL practicum. Wright Brothers Construction tailors the internship program to meet students' individual needs. They help students explore their interest and place them in areas within the company where they receive onthe-job training. Students begin in unpaid internships that can transition into part-time or full-time employment.
One of the goals of the internship program is to provide Wright Brothers with a pipeline of skilled employees who will remain loyal to the company in the future. The internship not only provides technical training, but also community service opportunities. Internship students serve by preparing meals for Bradley County Families, completing asphalt and grading projects at local schools, and various leadership opportunities provided by Wright Brothers.

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are clubs tied to CTE classroom learning, offering students opportunities to develop leadership skills and apply their knowledge beyond the classroom. Members can hold leadership positions, compete in regional, state, and national events, participate in social activities, and engage in community service projects. CTSOs play a vital role in preparing students for future success by fostering teamwork, communication, and real-world problem-solving skills.

Summit Leadership is an annual retreat bringing together CTSO officers from Bradley Central and Walker Valley to collaborate and grow as leaders. Over two days, student leaders refine their leadership skills while working with teachers and peers to plan activities and set goals for their organizations.

CTSO leaders from Walker Valley High and Bradley Central attend CTE Leadership Day on the Hill at the Cordell Hull Building in Nashville, TN. Students engage with
Senate Representatives to learn about the legislative process and discuss current bills impacting education and CTE programs. Students also showcase the projects, competitions, and activities they participate in through their CTSOs, sharing the positive impact these experiences have had on their personal and professional growth. The day concludes with a dynamic Q&A session, giving students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of policymaking and advocacy.
