Prepare to paint the town orange, because Carrot Fest 2012 is just more than one week away. To help generate some buzz for Bradford’s annual celebration of everyone’s favourite root vegetable, the town has hung banners from the streetlights in the downtown core and a large sign on the way into the community informs passing motorists that the party starts Aug. 18. The excitement is indeed building, the town’s leisure events and marketing programmer Joe Lotto said, adding this year’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet. “This year we’ll have well over 300 vendors for Carrot Fest,” he said. “I think that’s probably the most we’ve ever had.” Beyond more vendors, this year’s Carrot Fest will also welcome in some new acts and attractions. One exciting addition is the two new busker areas, Mr. Lotto said, explaining that visitors can stop by See page 5

The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is hoping that a united front will encourage the province to budge on the long-awaited Bradford bypass. Earlier this summer, York Region council adopted a series of recommendations relating to the York-Simcoe Boundary Area Transportation
Needs Study Update, part of which directed York staffers to work with their counterparts in other municipalities in an effort to get some movement on the link between highways 400 and 404. Correspondence on the subject from the region made up part of the information agenda at Tuesday’s Bradford Council meeting and prompted members of See page 9.
