Gowanda wrestlers beat Southwestern, 48-27 By Mark Benton

GOWANDA — The Gowanda Central School varsity wrestling team defeated long time rival Southwestern in Gowanda on Jan. 18 by the count of 48-27. Dave Ball, Dave Poff, Ryan Gernatt, Zach Phillips and Mike Liszkiewicz each recorded a pin. Winning by decision was Jake Monat, Zach Carroll and Chuck Valone. Andrew Musacchio won by forfeit. The Panther grapplers will be back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 31 against
Cattaraugus- ittle alley. The first match is scheduled for 5 p.m. After their match against the Timberwolves, Gowanda will prepare for the Class A Tourney on Saturday, Feb. 4. Coach Mark Leous will have several wrestlers who will be in contention for top finishes at the tournament. At the Cattaraugus-Little Valley wrestling tournament on Jan. 21, Gowanda’s Dave Poff won the 120 pound weight division and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Wrestler. Poff is currently ranked No. 1 in Western New York in his weight class.
