WORKING WITH KEY PARTNERS ACROSS THE CITY IN ACHIEVING ACCREDITATION IN MANAGEMENT OF THE EVENING AND NIGHTTIME ECONOMY

Spearheading the joining of forces and resources, Bradford at Night is a driving force for collaboration in helping address issues and improve outcomes in the evening and night-time economy.

By setting our sights on securing Purple Flag status for the city, a national accreditation issued by the Association of Town and City Management, it will enable Bradford to celebrate and promote its night-time offering as well as utilising its criteria as a tool in managing arising issues.

A Purple Flag visitor map for the city details key attractions and safety advice while the recent introduction of West Yorkshire Police’s ‘Night Safe’ project contributes to the city’s on-going Purple Flag commitment and brings uniformed and non-uniformed agencies together in ensuring Bradford remains a safe night out.

Playing to its strength in bringing individuals, businesses and sectors together, our role will remain central to the key city partnerships which exist for the good of the city and those who use it.

S AFESPACE BRADFORD

THE CHARTER

BRADFORD HAS BECOME ONE OF THE UK FIRST CITIES TO CREATE A CHARTER

Across Britain, late night venues pump billions into the economy, but many are still bouncing back from Covid and coping with the cost of living.

To counter this, Bradford has become one of the UK first cities to create a Night Charter aimed at making the centre a safer and more welcoming environment for evening visitors.

This initiative is the first of its kind in Yorkshire and has been funded from part of the £1.2 million grant given to West Yorkshire following a successful Home Office bid to the Safer Streets Fund.

The scheme is unique to Bradford and aims to put the city on the map as leading the way in the hospitality sector by making sure staff have the relevant training to support vulnerable customers and security to promote safety.

The charter includes zero tolerance of abusive language and behaviour, respect for everybody, the sharing of intelligence and information, encouraging people to use the Walk Safe app, training and 'Pride Beyond Our Door'.

This includes things like keeping the outside premises clean, tidy, and safe; protecting people both inside and outside the premises; advocating responsible drinking and being vigilant to unsafe situations when people leave the premises.

The Bradford at Night Charter follows the development of other schemes spearheaded by Bradford at Night including the introduction of the Walk Safe App.

It is free for people to download to identify Walk Safeaccredited venues, locate night marshals and street angels, and enable others to track their evenings out.

GROWING UP

Bradford is changing, and we’re changing with it. In preparation for the City of Culture 2025, Bradford presents an opportunity to explore how our services can be utilised to support the city’s aspirations and the best interests of our members.

Bradford at Night regularly receives enquiries from both neighbouring towns and cities to areas further afield, all desiring the services and programmes that are seen to be contributing to the city here in Bradford. As an organisation, this would not be sustainable, however in identifying such an opportunity that supports the current members, the city and the wider goals of the organisation, it’s time for Bradford at Night to enter the next stage of its development.

Inclusion of Bradford at Night services will be available through a newly established parent company, SocialSpark. Designed to deliver services on behalf of Bradford at Nightwithout taking resource from our ultimate goal for Bradford.
