We welcome to the Lane today the officials, players and supporters of Binfield Football Club for today’s Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division fixture together with the three match officials Messrs Simpson, Vallance & Williams.

We hope you all enjoy your short stay with us and have a safe journey back home later on.

I always enjoy it when we entertain or visit the other local sides and today is no different with both sides hoping for good support to cheer them on.

It is fair to say the Moles have had the better head to head record over the last few years but we have had our moments too and should be up for the challenge.

We have met twice this season losing 5-0 at Stubbs Lane in the Reading Senior Cup before our first league encounter this term when we went down 3-1 with Shane Cooper-Clark’s goal (one of 32 league goals this season) only a consolation.

Since that 3-1 defeat in February, Roger Herridge’s side have played five matches winning 4-2, 6-0, 7-0 and 8-0 with a 1-1 draw home to Thatcham Town. It is seven league matches in that time for us with three wins one draw and three defeats.

I don’t like to end on a sour note but I am going to have a whinge about last week’s trip to Brimscombe & Thrupp.

I know it is a long journey (76 miles each way) and I know some people had genuine reasons for missing it but the number of players that pulled out on Thursday, Friday and on the day of the match was incredible. Some players even pulled out after we left giving us no time to draft in replacements!

Tom Nugent had been at university in Loughborough all season yet drove 110 miles to get there and play. His journey home was the 76 mile drive to Bracknell to drop people off before another 30 miles back to Alton. My thanks go especially to Tom and all of the others who did travel. Despite the result we did pretty well.Those who did not make it for less than water-tight reasons owe the rest of the players a performance today.

Sorry to moan but if you did what I do for the club on a weekly basis despite my current health limitations, you would be moaning too!

3. Applaud the opposition as well as your own team 4. Not use inappropriate language.

5. Not enter the field of play at any time.

Respect towards the Match Officials Supporters should: 1. Respect the decision of the Match Official.

2. Avoid words or actions, which may mislead a Match Official.

In the event of an issue during the game parents and spectators must NEVER contact leagues, the opposition, or the officials by telephone, letter or e mail.

There are official procedures in place for the club to make appeals and protests.

Please report any issues to your team manager or the Club Secretary who will take the appropriate action and/or refer the matter to the Club.

Our reserves side are a vital and successful part of our club, providing progression from our youth team into senior football and regularly providing players for the 1st team squad, whilst also being successful in winning Uhlsport Hellenic Division 2 East in 2012, runners up in 2013 and coming runners up in the Reserves Challenge Cup in both seasons. Half a dozen players last season progressed from our Youth team into our Reserves and four of those went on to make 1st team appearances this season two of those ‘home-grown’ players are in the starting 1st team squad. Since 2005, progress at the club has been swift, with the addition of floodlights and later a seated stand. We’ve continued to improve our facilities with the car park and changes to the club house. We constantly strive to improve all elements of the facilities from changing rooms to a playing surface we are extremely proud of, to benefit everyone from our Under 6s up to our 1st Team and Veterans. We won the FTL Hellenic League Division 1 East title in 2008-09 and gained promotion to the next level of English football, where we finished runners up in the 2010/11 Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division and 3rd in 2012/13. August 15th 2009 will long be remembered as Binfield’s first game in the legendary FA Cup and we have enjoyed some good runs reaching the 1st Qualifying round in each of the last two seasons with 400 supporters enjoying the visit of Margate in 2010 and a trip to Slough Town and narrow defeat in 2011. Binfield entered the FA Vase for the first time in season 2008-09 and enjoyed three rounds, before reaching the 4th round (last 32) in 2011/12 in an incredible season of cup success. The 2011/12 team is the most successful in our history, winning both the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Trophy and the AM Print & Copy Floodlit Cup in five glorious April 2012 days. We also reached the final of the Hellenic Challenge Cup. Ultimately the step up to the next tier of English non league football is our aim.

Saturday 11th April - £1 entry against Highworth Town #coyRobins Mark Saturday 11th April in your diary, the clubs committee have decided to reduce entry to Larges Lane to £1 for all* for the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division tie with FA Vase semi-finalists Highworth Town.

To celebrate, the club have hired the services of Little Reds wood fired pizza and one other stall to be announced who will serve hot food to supporters throughout the game from 2pm.

The £1 entry applies to all visitors to the club on the day, home and away as Bracknell Town celebrate a successful season in the Hellenic League.

The club would like to extend a welcome to all our regular supporters, our visitors from Highworth and hope we will be joined by as a many locals keen on experiencing some good local football against a side who recently ,are the semi-finals of the premier national competition for step 5 and 6 clubs.

Highworth were beaten 3-0 on aggregate in the semi-final by North Shields – put did the Hellenic League proud on the road to Wembley. The final will be contested between North Shields and Glossop Town at the National Stadium on Saturday 9th May.

James returned to the club last season and has made himself a key member of Keith Penicott-Bowen’s first team squad this time around on the wings.

Best game played in and why?

Has to be a semi-final for FC Bracknell against Eldon Celtic! There was always a massive rivalry and we rarely came out on top.

We played them on my birthday and ended up winning on penalties. Always a good feeling to beat them!

Ambitions for the season First of all, get myself a new hamstring as mine is useless!

Apart from that, keep winning games and picking up points this season and hopefully finish in the top half of the table.

Best ground played at: Played at the Madejski Stadium when I was around 14/15. But the best pitch has to be at Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham.

Funniest moment in football? Had a lot of funny moments but this season it has to be Dan Money’s own goal against Flackwell Heath. 50p head!

Bracknell Town Youth Team play in the South Division of the Allied Counties Youth League and are managed by Paul Howe (pictured).

They finished fourth last season and were crowned champions in 2011/12.

Crucial games for young Robins #coyRobins At the time of writing, Paul Howe’s youth team have a crucial six days ahead of them with the visit of Farnham (Thurday 2nd) and trip to Eversley & California (Tuesday 7th) in the Allied Counties Youth League.

The title is at stake when Farnham visit - the Surrey side have five games in hand - and Bracknell face them twice in their final four games.

The title chasing trio is completed by Binfield who have done themselves no harm in recent weeks with some excellent results, but the priority for Bracknell is wins in the final four ties - the title is in their hands.

William Kennedy Kyeremeh #coyRobins French born William Kyeremeh has spent two seasons blazing a trail in front of goal for Bracknell Town youth team and is now making his way in Hellenic League Division 2 football for Lee Simpson’s development side.

William made his first team debut off the bench against Oxford City Nomads back in September and has played 23 games this season scoring 12 goals.

Best game played in and why?: My best game so far was Bracknell Town youth against Alton town in the Allied Counties - the year they won the league. I came on as a substitute and scored the winning goal against the eventual champions!

I also played for France under 7s and then moved to England for trials with QPR, Fulham and Reading

Ambitions for the season: To improve game by game and to learn from other great players around the club.

Best ground played at: Loftus Road, the home of Queens Park Rangers.

Funniest moment in football?: Scoring my first header against Finchampstead.

Saturday 21st February: Binfield 3 Bracknell Town 1

Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division Binfield once again took the local bragging rights after seeing off Bracknell Town in front of a crowd of 182 at Hill Farm Lane.

Manager Keith Pennicott-Bowen switched to a new 5-3-2 formation with the wing-backs providing the width but it backfired spectacularly as the Robins were truly dreadful in the first half with the home side racing into a three goal lead at the interval.

A change in personnel and a change in formation at half time bought about a great improvement as the visitors shaded the second period and despite Shane Cooper-Clark pulling a goal back and Jake White striking the post, the Moles held on for a deserved win.

Dave Woozley headed an early chance over for the hosts before they opening the scoring on ten minutes. Seb Bowerman’s left cross was headed on by Ian Davies and although Aaron Rowland saw his shot blocked, the ball fell kindly to Josh Howell who smashed home beyond an unsighted Garry Aulsberry.

It was two goals in the 35th minute with Davies bundling home a corner. Woozley’s header came back off the crossbar allowing Davies to stab the ball home.

Bowerman added a third goal on forty minutes with a fine solo goal. He cut inside from the left beating two players all too easily before picking out the far corner from a ridiculously tight angle.

The Robins struggled to get going in the first half with several players looking lost and all they could muster was a Cooper-Clark effort at goalkeeper Dan Weait from outside the penalty area.

The margin could have been larger at the break but Davies sent a 44th minute lob attempt over the bar before he inexplicably missed the target with the goal gaping in stoppage time.

Half Time: Binfield 3 – 0 Bracknell Town Pennicott-Bowen had seen enough and reverted back to a more familiar 4-4-2 formation.

The introduction of Harry Stevens in midfield and Khalid Senussi on the wing had a great effect as his side improved immensely.

They pulled a goal back on 64 minutes following good work from Senussi who sent

over a deep ball. Woozley tried to head it back to Weait but sold his goalkeeper short and CooperClark nipped in to loop his header over Weait and into the back of the net.

Stevens volleyed over and Andre Kelly missed the target after Weait had spilled a free-kick whilst White fired wide right after Senussi set him up.

The home side created plenty too and Davies twice missed gilt edged chances. Firstly, he fired over from six yards after good play by Bowerman and Howell.

The second was even worse as he lazily tried to tap into the net but Kelly made a last ditch clearance from the goal-line. A harder shot would have given Kelly no chance of clearing it.

The Moles felt for sure they should have had a penalty and I am inclined to agree after Sam Whiting cut off Rowland but the vociferous appeals were waved away.

Bracknell kept plugging away and a superb pass by Cooper-Clark allowed White to race in and although he rounded Weait, the ball crashed back off the left hand post and with that the faintest hope had gone.

It was an open and entertaining match with Binfield deservedly coming out on top.

Pennicott-Bowen’s men rallied well in the second period but the damage was done in the opening 45 minutes.

They return to Larges Lane next week to entertain league leaders Highmoor-IBIS.

Took over as manager in October 2014 having been assistant for two years. ‘Bowes’ is a club legend having played for over a decade during the 90s and was part of the side that reached the FA Cup First Round Proper in 2000. Garry Aulsberry - Experienced goalkeeper who joined the club from Binfield in October after injury to James Hawtree and has been in impressive form. Previously played for Wokingham & Emmbrook.

Michael Watson - A quick and attacking right back who came through our youth system. ‘Mikey’ was arguably our most consistent player last season turning in steady performances on a weekly basis.

Harry Brown - Young defender who joined us from Farnborough.

Can play at full back but has mostly been used at centre half. ‘H’ has proved to be a classy and quick addition.

Jordan Rowland - Used to play as a winger but now plying his trade as a left back. An attack minded player who strikes the ball so well he will undoubtedly cause problems with his set piece delivery and excellent crossing.

Grant Goodband - Grant joined us during last season having recently moved to the area. A solid defender who loves to tackle and has a committed approach.Can play right-back or centre back.

Tom Williams - A strong central defender who can also play in midfield. Was previously with Binfield where he played a large part in their reserve team title win. Doesn’t lose many aerial battles.

Andre Kelly - Andre joined us from Finchampstead wanting to try his hand at Hellenic Premier Division football. A very composed and cultured central defender who also chips in with a few goals.

Taylor Elliott-Money - In his second spell at the club having featured regularly under Steve Nebbett and Danny Oliphant. Comfortable at full-back and in midfield.

Rayners Lane will now be Ardley United’s host’s and opposition in the semi final of The ‘Bluefin Sport’ Challenge Cup on April 14 after Newbury were removed according to hellenicleague.co.uk Following the lodging of a formal complaint by Rayners Lane regarding a player ineligibility issue an investigation was initiated and Newbury have confirmed that a non eligible player was played in the match.

As a consequence Newbury FC has been removed from this competition and the tie awarded to Rayners Lane, who are re-instated into the competition.

LADIES SCENE Keeping up with our ladies teams

Bracknell Town Ladies first team play in the Southern Region Women’s Premier, and the reserves play in the Thames Valley Women’s League Division 1 South.

The ladies teams have a weekend off over Easter followed by their penultimate games of the season.

On 12th April the first team host Dorset based Parley Sports at Larges Lane while the reserves welcome Holyport ladies to Syngenta Recreation Ground.

Both teams have endured this season with player availability an issue - but significant steps were taken ahead of deadline day with no fewer than five players joining the club to boost the ranks.

This will hopefully see both sides fielding strong XIs in 2015/16.

Midfielder Kate Brown As a regular feature, we’ll be catching up with members of the 2014/15 ladies team as they progress in the Southern Region Women’s League, and Thames Valley Region Women’s League.

Kate Brown #coyRobins As strong in the air as on the ground, Kate has been an ever-present in the reserves back four this season and impressed with regular changes around her.

Best game played in and why?

There’s two that have been the best games The first is playing top of the league, Wargrave, and being ahead 2-1 at half time. The ladies played brilliantly and put up a great fight. Thouhg we lost the match, it was a great show of football and skill! The second was against Flackwell Heath. One of the most enjoyable games I’ve played, the rain started at 1 on an already wet pitch and the mud was perfect for sliding tackles, and sliding for an extra few feet down the pitch. We played really well and had a brillant game.

Ambitions for the season: I’d like to match my previous league scoring record of 1. Hopefully make a few great runs from the back as well.

Best ground played at: The Universy of Portsmouth 4G pitch, was likely the best I have played on.

Funniest moment in football?

I think that would have to be tripping myself on my own laces, more than once in the same match.

And now for something completely different..

FILMED IN BRACKNELL: THE OFFENCE 1972 Whilst our town is well known for its fine football team, it also has some other claims to fame. One of them is that Sean Connery starred in a movie that was filmed almost entirely in Bracknell.

As part of the deal with United Artists that saw Connery return as James Bond for the 1971 film Diamonds are Forever, the Scottish actor insisted that he be allowed to make one film of his own choosing.

Connery chose a dark psychological thriller called “The Offence”, an adapted screenplay to be directed by Sidney Lumet. For whatever reason, Lumet chose to film the majority of the movie in Bracknell.

The hero of the film, Detective-Sergeant Johnson lives in what any Bracknellian will recognise as Point Royal, whilst Bracknell’s Library is used as a police station. Bracknell’s ring-road features heavily as does the now demolished part of our old town centre where we see a criminal dragged down one of the Broadway’s old spiral staircases. Despite being filmed in the early 1970s, it gives the viewer a chance to reminisce about what the town centre was like only a few years ago.

The opening sequence of the film sees Sean Connery in the Wildridings area of Bracknell outside Heathlands Residential Home (used as a school in the movie) with the imposing Point Royal behind in shot him. We also get to take a look at Mill Pond which was at the time very much a puddle, and pre-McDonalds and Mill Pond cafe. It does make you wonder where the people of Bracknell went for breakfast in 1972.

It’s a dark, but excellent film, showing Connery in a role that many won’t be too familiar with him playing. He cuts a depressive, broody and violent figure throughout the picture.

It’s well worth some of your time not only as a great way to sightsee Bracknell in early 1972, but as a very good film in its own right.

Keeping Counties Keeping up up with with the the Allied Div 2 East men

Bracknell Town Development Team play in Division 2 East of the Uhlsport Hellenic League and are managed by Lee Simpson. They were runners-up to Binfield and won the President’s Cup last season.

Robins beaten at league leaders #coyRobins Last weekends local derby saw Ascot United walk away with the points at Larges Lane with a 1-0 victory.

During midweek youngster George Lock scored his first senior goal as Bracknell came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Flackwell Heath at Wilks Park. William Kennedy Kyeremeh got the other goal for Bracknell.

Sixteen year old full-back Lock – in only his second start for the development team – drew his side level with an absolute belter after the home side had taken a 2-0 lead.

Funniest moment in football: Might have to be the other week against Highmore Ibis. Having been pulled back, then being pulled back up from the floor, ripping my shirt in the process - very enjoyable!

Leverkusen twinned with Bracknell

Bayer ‘keeper on his way to Madrid?

Champions League chasing Bayer Leverkusen haven’t received any offers for goalkeeper Bernd Leno according to CEO Michael Schade, but that hasn’t stopped persistant rumours the 23-year-old is a shoe-in to replace Iker Casillas at the Bernabau.

Spanish newspaper Marca has linked the Leverkusen keeper with a switch to Real Madrid, who reportedly rate him as highly as Manuel Neuer, Thibaut Courtois or David De Gea, with the latter frequently named a potential Los Blancos target.

The goalkeeper has an 18million euro release clause in his contract but the move has been dismissed by the player himself as nothing more than a rumour.

FA VASE Highworth Town

Town do the league proud in semi Highworth Town were at North Shields for the second leg of The FA Vase last weekend with North Shields having a one goal advantage from the first leg writes the Hellenic Leagues Brian Kirk.

The North East side hosted this the second leg and it looked an uphill task for the Worthians.

A crowd of 1500 witnessed a hard fought stalemate for 73 minutes with both sides having chances until Gareth Bainbridge - missing from the first leg added to his impressive goal tally of 95 in 72 starts to break the dead lock in favour of the home side.

The final score ended 2-0 when Dean Walker added to the North Shields score on 88 minutes.

BEER FEST Sunday 24th May

Sunday 24th May 2015 see’s Bracknell Town Football Club’s Larges Lane ground play host once again to the Bracknell Ale & Wine Festival sponsored by getreading.co.uk The event is in its fifth year and goes from strength to strength raising money for the club - last year nearly £5,000 was raised with over 700 people through the doors on a gloriously sunny day.

What is it?

The festival is primarily a real ale event with over 30 different beers this year, but it also caters for wine and cider drinkers - while the usual lagers and spirits will be available behind the club bar.

The event attracts all ages from across the town but has proven popular with the younger generations who pack out the event with picnic blankets and chairs on the pitch.

Why should we come?

For the first time this year we will have the Stag & Hounds food court with stalls including specialist sausages and a caribbean kitchen.

There will also be live music all day on the Wilkins Kennedy stage with a variety of acts from Rock, Pop and Folk producing a range of covers and their own material.

But a Sunday.. really?

Don’t forget it’s a bank holiday weekend, so you have all of Monday to recover!

GOLDEN BOOT The race for the Hellenic League’s golden boot One bit of silverware remains open to Bracknell Town this season as young striker Shane Cooper-Clark chases the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division golden boot.

Cooper-Clark has top the goalscoring charts for much of the season - despite a three match suspension at Christmas and scored twice in the 4-2 defeat to Brimscombe & Thrupp last season to give himself a four goal lead in the race to top the division’s goalscoring charts.

The former Wokingham & Emmbrook forward - in his third season at Larges Lane - has been on fire for Bracknell this term scoring 34 goals in all competitions.

Cooper-Clark struck two consolation goals for Bracknell on the occasion of Jake White’s 100th appearance in a Robins shirt, and in doing so remained ahead of nearest rival – Flackwell Heath’s Gavin James.

James didn’t score in Heathens last two league games, the 3-0 win over Bracknell on 21st March and the 2-2 draw at home to Kidlington on Tuesday but has six league games remaining – including two against relegated Cheltenham Saracens with which to overhaul Cooper-Clark’s league total of 32.

Today’s visitors Binfield put seven past the divison’s bottom side Saracens recently, so James will have every chance of adding to his league tally of 28.
