IMPORTANT UPDATES

IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATES: SICK LEAVE POLICIES AND GUIDELINES

On August 24, 2023, John Stankiewicz, Director of Public Safety, shared an important update via email. We would like to share information for employees on what to do if you test positive for COVID-19 and highlight important recommendations from the COVID-19 Task Force.

All employees, regardless of vaccination status, are encouraged to seek medical care if they are experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 to ensure that they are cleared to return to campus. All individuals, regardless of vaccination status, are encouraged to wear a high-quality mask when around others and in indoor spaces if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, even mild symptoms.

Any employee who tests positive for COVID-19 should manage their isolation and discharge independently by following the CDC guidelines on isolation:

Isolation length is dependent on your test date and symptoms. You are required to be isolated for at least five (5) days from the onset of your symptoms or your positive test date (even if you do not have symptoms). If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolved after five (5) days, you can return to work and end your isolation.

You may return to work, but must continue to wear a mask around others for five (5) additional days. You may remove your mask on day 11.

If you need to go into isolation, you must use your sick leave. According to our policy, employees who are absent due to medical illness for more than 3 days must submit a doctor's note to HR. If you have accumulated long-term sick leave, you may use it to cover the five-day isolation period, but approval requires the submission of a doctor's note.

After you have ended isolation and your COVID-19 symptoms have returned or worsened, restart your isolation at day 0. Remember that you'll need to provide a doctor's note for the duration of your absence from work. If you have questions regarding your isolation timeline, please contact Human Resources @ HR@baypath.edu.

The benefits of the COVID-19 vaccination are well established with respect to protection against severe illness, which is why the COVID-19 Task Force highly recommends that community members receive the bivalent booster even though it is not required for the 2023-2024 academic year. Bay Path University will continue to be a masksupportive and mask-friendly community. Individuals, including those at high risk, should feel free and comfortable to wear a mask whenever and wherever they wish.

Complimentary rapid tests will be available at the following locations:

Health Services / First floor Theinert Hall: Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m. Dean of Students' Office, Breck’s Student Life Office: Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Hatch Library: Monday-Friday, Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m -9:00 p.m. Saturday-Sunday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The Ryan Health Science Center: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

We encourage every member of our community to remember that our own personal choices often impact people around us, including those who may be more vulnerable than ourselves. If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19 or are feeling unwell, please follow CDC guidelines to care for yourself and those around you.

CORE VALUE OF THE MONTH

OUR LEARNERS COME FIRST

When our learners succeed, we succeed. Being student-centered is our mission, our passion. So we champion them to achieve extraordinary things. The decisions we make, the data we analyze, the priorities we follow...we must always ask "how does this further our vision for learner success?" Click here to watch a video about ways we can lower the barriers to higher education access and increase student enrollment and retention.

CALL FOR CORE VALUE AMBASSADORS GOLDEN COMPASS AWARD NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN

The Core Values Committee is charged with developing and implementing key actions to ensure that Bay Path University's Core Values are strategically maintained and upheld and that all members of the Community have every opportunity to embrace and celebrate our shared Values.

This will be accomplished by:

Activating Core Values Ambassadors

Recognizing individuals who embody the Core Values.

Incorporating the Core Values into the employee life cycle.

Encouraging dialogue and continuous review of the Core Values.

Assessing the impact the Core Values have on the BPU Community, both individually and collectively.

As you may know, last October, Bay Path officially launched its Core Values Committee. Since then, comprised of four sub-committees, each designated to a different area, from student support, to health and wellness, to University branding and marketing, to DEIB, our Ambassadors worked diligently to carry out their efforts in each respective area. After a brief summer hiatus, the committee is now re-convening and is happy to welcome aboard new members!

To submit an application to become an Ambassador, please fill out the following application. If you are selected to join, your supervisor will be notified and must approve your participation in this effort.

The Bay Path Golden Compass Award is a monthly award, presented at our Community Luncheons, that highlights a small but mighty act of working to bring our Core Values to life. The nomination process is simple - consider it a virtual comment box for your coworkers. All community members able are encouraged to submit a peer they want to commend for being intentional with applying the Bay Path Core Values to their work and relationships. See someone exemplifying “We Pledge to Foster Inclusion and Belonging”? Drop a note in the virtual nomination box letting us know. Notice someone making an active choice to promote diversity or innovation? Drop a note in the virtual nomination box letting us know. The form is quick, fast, and requires minimal information. We hope you’ll use it often.

We know that the good work is underway, and the nomination form is officially open. Who have you noticed living our Core Values?
