A message from the Dean WILLIAM H. BOWEN SCHOOL OF LAW

ongratulations on making two important choices: the decision to envision yourself as a lawyer and the recognition that the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law might just be the right law school for you.

Only one year ago, I had to make a similar choice, whether to join the Bowen community as its dean or remain in a job I loved. I jumped at the opportunity to become a part of a law school I had admired for years. My reasons for becoming the dean at Bowen are not unlike the reasons Bowen could be a good fit for you. I have dedicated my career to training law professors to be more effective as teachers and to teaching law students to be more effective as students. I therefore feel qualified to assert that Bowen offers a great legal education — and at an astoundingly low price. Bowen is not only among the most cost-effective law schools in the country, but it is one of the few that offers, via its non-resident student scholarships, the same great value to everyone, regardless of where you currently reside or plan to practice law. And, if you did well in college and on the LSAT, you may even be awarded one of our full-ride Bowen Fellow Scholarships or one of our other merit scholarships. But Bowen is much more than its ranking as a 2012 National Jurist “Best Value Law School.” Bowen’s other 2012 rankings, including: top-10 legal writing program, one of the 20 most innovative law schools, top-15 for training students for public service, and top-40 for graduates’ jobs nine months after graduation, communicate (better than I possibly could) that Bowen students learn the skills that lawyers value. Bowen is also situated in the right place. Bowen’s location, in the business, legal, and government center of the state of Arkansas, means that our students meet and interact with legislators, corporate leaders, law firm partners, and judges. A former justice of the Arkansas Supreme Court, the first woman in history to serve on that court, roams our halls as the law school’s Distinguished Jurist in Residence. Our location also means our students have access to a wide array of externships and summer and school-year jobs. So, please take this letter as my invitation to visit us in Little Rock. Sit in on our classes. Meet our faculty and students. Learn about our cutting-edge student success and law practice skills program. Discover why Little Rock was named the 2013 Best Mid-Size City by Kiplinger and one of the 2013 best cities for business and careers by Forbes Magazine. you.

And stop by my office to say hi. I’d love to share my passion for Bowen with

Sincerely,

Michael Hunter Schwartz
