A warm welcome to our spring update, in which we look back and celebrate some of the fantastic highlights, offering a glimpse into our diverse and vibrant educational community.
As we approach the end of another successful term, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the remarkable achievements across the Trust It is with great pleasure that I extend my congratulations to all our schools that have recently undergone Ofsted inspections, with a special mention to Marnel Junior School for achieving its well-deserved 'outstanding' rating.
This term has been a true celebration of creativity across the curriculum, with our students and teachers showcasing their talents and innovative approaches to learning The vibrant displays of artwork, engaging performances, and thought-provoking projects have enriched our school environments and fostered a love for learning among our students
Furthermore, I am delighted to highlight the incredible efforts made by our schools to provide our students with enriching experiences beyond the traditional classroom setting. The BET Guarantee has opened up a world of opportunities, allowing our young learners to explore new horizons, develop essential life skills, and broaden their perspectives.

It is with great pride that we open this term's edition of our Trust magazine by celebrating the remarkable achievements of our schools in their recent Ofsted inspections.
First and foremost, huge congratulations to Marnel Junior School on their exceptional journey from 'inadequate' to 'outstanding' Inspectors noted, 'students thrive at this highly ambitious and inclusive school...and burst with pride about their high achievements' –truly a shining example of what can be accomplished through determination and a shared commitment to excellence!
We applaud The Matthew Arnold School, New Monument Primary School, and Woodlands School (currently an associate school) for retaining their
'good' and 'outstanding' ratings, respectively Maintaining such high standards really is testament to the consistent efforts of everyone involved in nurturing a culture of continuous improvement Additionally, we commend the team at Everest Community Academy for upholding the school's 'good' rating. These successes would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of our dedicated staff members - their passion, expertise, and unwavering commitment to our students have been the driving force behind these outstanding accomplishments and we cannot thank them enough We also extend our sincere gratitude to our governors for their strategic guidance and support, and of course to our brilliant students and their families.

Hopescourt School update
This term Hopescourt School was granted its funding agreement and is therefore on track to open in temporary accommodation from the 1st September with up to 77 students across years 7 - 10.
Plans for the permanent building are also progressing, with planning permission now approved, and the project team, including Headteacher Alex Burrows, are now focusing on student admissions in collaboration with Surrey County Council, staff recruitment (with appointments now confirmed for the senior team and a number of teaching staff) and preparation for the pre-registration visit from Ofsted, which we anticipate will take place in May. EDI update
This term we have provided training to school and system leaders on developing confidence around inclusion practices with a key focus on recognising and addressing inappropriate or discriminatory language from peers or students.
Effective communication fosters understanding and breaks down barriers, and our leaders now have the tools to promptly address discriminatory language, ensuring all feel welcomed, valued and supported.

BET students explore digital careers at Brooklands
This term, the Community Digital Careers Event at Brooklands Museum, organised by BET (in partnership with Surrey Cyber Security Cluster) and attended by our schools, offered engaging, hands-on workshops delivered by digital and cyber professionals from diverse industries like space and infrastructure.
Through interactive sessions exploring cutting-edge technologies, students gained valuable insights into exciting career paths This fantastic experience aimed to ignite a passion for the fast-paced world of digital and cyber, empowering the next generation of innovators.
Brooklands Innovation Academy
Brooklands Innovation Academy is part of the National Science Summer School programme, co-founded by Professor Brian Cox, of which BET is a strategic partner.
The academy aims to connect young people aged 11-18 with scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians from leading businesses and will again take place in October this year, welcoming around 30 secondary schools, including all those from the Bourne Education Trust

Integrating edtech and AI
- how are we doing?
Our schools have been making great progress in integrating Edtech and AI into their teaching practices - here is an update from this term...
The newly established Digital Leads Team is disseminating weekly tech updates to staff across all schools. Initial AI awareness training has also been completed trustwide, with follow-up sessions currently underway. The AI parent talk received positive feedback from attendees and additionally, the new student IT panel is offering valuable insights into how students are using AI and technology.
To further support implementation, schools are currently booking their IT framework evaluations which will help identify each school's current EdTech and AI adoption level and pinpoint areas for improvement.
We would like to thank all the schools for their support and enthusiasm, and highlight the case study of Laura from Sythwood Primary, who used AI image generation with her Year 5 class to enhance their creative writing skills You can read more about her experience here
SEND: Adaptive teaching
This year, adaptive teaching has emerged as a key focus area for our SEND provision. United in their commitment, our SENCos collaborated to develop comprehensive training, which has now been successfully delivered across all schools within the Trust.
Complementing these efforts, our partnership with Speech and Language UK has continued with the emphasis centred on equipping SENCos with essential training and assessment tools. Moreover, four of our primary schools are currently trialling resources and will share their insights on the impact at the end of the summer term - however this initiative has already shed light on the crucial need to raise awareness of how unmet speech and language needs can manifest as dysregulation among secondary students.
Looking ahead, we are excited to extend this work to our secondary schools, further strengthening our understanding and support in this area, and further developing our recently established 'Assistant to SENCo' network to foster a collaborative environment for sharing best practices among staff overseeing SEND administration

At Everest Community Academy, a proactive approach has been taken to foster students' professional and personal development. Year 11 students were prioritised early in the year, each receiving one-on-one career interviews and additional support for their college or sixth form applications. This personalised approach has since extended to selected students in Year 9 and all in Year 10, with allocated hours for discussing future plans and pathways sitting alongside exposure to real-world experiences, such as the visit to Winchester College and plans for a future visit to BCOT in July.
At Marnel Junior School, career-related learning is at the heart of the educational experience The school has integrated the Career Development Institute (CDI) framework across all subject areas, encouraging students to explore six key areas of learning to shape their futures
Annual initiatives, such as 'Futures Week’, allow students to participate in practical projects, collaborate, and engage with professionals from various industries, fostering innovation and inspiration.

This term, our Chertsey and Addlestone students immersed themselves in a diverse array of enriching experiences designed to nurture their personal growth, cultivate practical skills, and ignite their aspirations...
At Jubilee High School, National Careers Week was jam-packed with activities, kicking off with staff profile displays that unveiled the career journeys of teachers and staff members. Throughout the week, students participated in themed tutor sessions, quizzes, and lunchtime activities in the school's BRC. Year 10 students ventured out for a highly anticipated Work Experience Day, exploring placements at various local businesses and organisations, including McLaren, Cucina, Thales, Addlestone Library, and many more. The school also welcomed STEM ambassadors who shared insights into their careers as space scientists and engineers, igniting students' curiosity and ambition.
Engaging with the local community has been a focal point across the cluster At Pyrcroft Grange Primary, Year 4 and Year 5 students had the remarkable opportunity to learn art skills alongside a professional artist and perform ‘The Tempest’ with the renowned Guildford Shakespeare Company These immersive experiences not only cultivated academic skills but also nurtured creativity, cultural awareness, emotional intelligence, and social development –invaluable assets for their future success and wellbeing
Experiential learning has also taken centre stage, with schools organising educational trips to enrich their curricula Students from Sayes Court Primary School visited Nower Wood, Windsor Castle, Aldershot Military Museum, and Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium,

applying their knowledge in real-world settings. The school also celebrated World Book Day in style, promoting a love for reading, while Reception students marvelled at the hatching of chicks, and others benefited from working with a reading dog. All classes also participated in Forest School sessions, fostering curiosity, resilience and respect for nature
Preparing students for adulthood is a priority across the cluster. Philip Southcote School's ‘Preparation for Adulthood’ programme offers students the opportunity to engage with various careers, learn about workplace rights and responsibilities, and discover different professions through trips to places like RHS Wisley, DeVere Hotels, Pizza Express, and art galleries. Practical exercises in banking, budgeting, and ATM usage equip students with essential financial skills, while hands-on learning facilities, such as the Wooden Spoon café, hairdressers, nail bar, horticultural centre, and vinyl crafting studio, allow students to develop industry-relevant skills.
Beyond the classroom, students across the cluster have embraced opportunities to showcase their talents and passions. At Chertsey High School, over 100 students are involved in the musical production ‘Back to the 80s’, while, Year 9 students participated in a workshop focused on the engineering of Formula 1, designing and building electric vehicles in collaboration with the Smallpeice Trust and McLaren – a testament to the school's commitment to sustainable futures and career exploration.

Sparking creativity across the curriculum in our Epsom schools
Creativity has taken centre stage across the Epsom cluster this term, with our schools embracing diverse avenues for artistic expression and imaginative learning experiences...
At Auriol Junior School, nurturing resilience through creative challenges is a top priority. Children are presented with experiences that evoke a range of emotions, learning that feeling anxious or excited is natural when facing new situations The supportive environment encourages students to navigate and triumph over these emotions, fostering personal growth and achievement.
The Mead has been a hub of artistic exploration, with Year 1 students crafting brilliant 3D paper sculptures using tubes and folding techniques during their art and design lessons Meanwhile, Year 2 embarked on a rhythmic adventure through an African drumming workshop, honing hand-eye coordination and learning the value of listening to the collective sound.
Inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' ‘The Dot’, staff and students at Meadow have embraced the power of self-expression. Teachers created their own ‘dots’ before guiding students through the same creative process, using sketchbooks to experiment before finalising their designs - all of which are now proudly displayed in the school hall.

Excitement is building at Epsom and Ewell High School as students prepare for their upcoming performance of ‘Matilda Junior’, bringing Roald Dahl's beloved tale to life on stage. Beyond the musical, students have explored creativity through projects like designing wooden robots, creating typefaces inspired by Pop Art, and making sculptures addressing environmental issues.
CLUSTER
Epsom Primary and Nursery celebrated creativity through interactive Ancient Egyptian workshops, allowing Year 3 students to participate in rituals, bread-making, and hieroglyphic writing. World Book Day saw a cosy, bedtime story-themed celebration with theatre performances and storytelling challenges.
West Ewell Primary has embraced creative learning across the curriculum, from observing the natural world to immersive writing journeys and engaging language lessons with French pastries and performances

The Richmond schools have been providing students with opportunities to explore their passions, develop new skills, and broaden their horizons beyond the classroom walls. Let’s see what happened this term!
At Teddington School, the annual ski trip kicked off the term, with over 80 students hitting the slopes of Val di Fiemme in Italy for an exceptional week of winter sports and personal growth. Back on site, the school's first STEAM Enhancement Day focused on climate change, challenging Year 7 students to enhance their problemsolving skills through interactive activities.
Careers and networking events have also been a prominent feature, with Teddington School hosting a Careers Networking Evening that connected students with professionals from various fields, allowing them to gain valuable insights into potential career paths. Meanwhile, an exciting partnership with Brentford Football Club has opened up a new post-16 provision, enabling students to study at the school's sixth form while training and representing the club.
At The Matthew Arnold School, Year 11 students Zahra, Zoya, and Daisy excelled in the Youth Speaks competition, winning the local heat and individual awards for their ‘Congo in Crisis’ presentation. Excitement builds for the PE department's upcoming trip to Madrid, where students will train at Real Madrid's elite La Ciudad Real Madrid-Florentino Pérez facility under top coaches, experiencing the same

grounds as the academy and first team. New chickens have arrived, providing fresh eggs for a staff raffle and the term saw the Quantum Theatre Company perform 'Macbeth' for Year 11, while KS3 entered the 'Through Their Eyes' poetry competition for potential publication
Hampton High celebrated its rich cultural diversity with a vibrant Culture Day, where students and staff donned traditional attire representing over 30 countries worldwide. The event culminated in a ‘UK versus Rest of the World’ football match, organised by the Student Leadership Team, showcasing their workplace skills.
Twickenham School has been a hive of activity, with the annual ski trip to the Austrian Alps providing students with a week of physical and personal development on the slopes. World Book Day celebrations saw students engaging with authors, dressing up as their favourite characters, and participating in literary activities throughout the day. Off-campus experiences ranged from Year 7's team-building trip to PGL Marchants Hill to Year 11 geography students conducting fieldwork on the River Tillingbourne
For our lucky Twickenham students, enrichment opportunities further extended beyond traditional subjects, with the Brunel Museum visiting the science department to explore the Thames Tunnel and address gender stereotypes in STEM careers. The Duke of Edinburgh Award program saw students learning essential outdoor skills, while an upcoming trip to Le Touquet will allow key stage 3 students to practice their French in an immersive setting
Throughout the Richmond schools, students have been exposed to a rich tapestry of experiences, igniting their curiosity, fostering personal growth, and providing invaluable opportunities beyond the confines of the classroom.

Reading for pleasure in our Woking schools
The Woking cluster of schools has embraced a wide array of engaging initiatives this term, all designed to nurture a lifelong love of reading and celebrate the magic of storytelling.
At Brookwood Primary, World Book Day was a true spectacle, with children given the option to dress up as their favourite literary characters or don cosy pyjamas while bringing their most loved bedtime stories to school Both staff and students alike participated enthusiastically, resulting in a delightful mix of costumes and pyjama-clad readers. Seizing the opportunity, Years 5 and 6 focused their efforts on honing their letter-writing skills, penning heartfelt missives to their favourite authors.
Kings International College has been running a successful ‘Reading Buddies’ program for the past two years. During this term, Year 7 and 8 students identified as having reading ages up to two years below their chronological age have been paired with Year 10 volunteer buddies. Twice a week during tutor time, these younger students read aloud to their trained buddies, who provide guidance with tricky words and encourage decoding strategies. Many have already finished entire books from a carefully chosen selection tailored to their reading levels

A newly designed atrium at Sythwood Primary has become a multi-purpose haven for fostering a love of reading. Serving as a vibrant space for learning computing, working in small groups, and hosting parent meetings, the atrium's true magic lies in its ability to nurture a passion for literature To mark its unveiling, the school’s choir serenaded attendees with the school song, while the Pupil Parliament delivered an opening speech. Renowned author Paul Geraghty joined the festivities, providing every child with an opportunity to work alongside him and witness his illustrations come to life.
At Broadmere and New Monument Primary Schools, the ‘This Is Me’ poetry competition celebrated the exceptional writing talents of Year 6 students. Tasked with crafting poems that encapsulate their unique selves, these talented young poets poured their creativity onto the page. Eight remarkable students were not only selected but also featured in the published collection, a testament to the individuality and creativity thriving within both schools
Embracing the joy of numbers, the schools also transformed into mathematical wonderlands for a ‘Dressed for Digits’ celebration Students across all class groups participated in engaging activities like whole-school bingo and treasure hunts, revelling in the captivating world of numbers. From creative number-themed outfits to hands-on mathematical explorations, the young mathematicians truly dressed for digits, making the day an unforgettable blend of fun and learning.
Through these diverse initiatives, the Woking cluster has successfully created an environment that fosters a deep appreciation for literature, language, and numeracy, igniting the imaginations of students and instilling a lifelong love of learning

Making a difference
Congratulations to Daniel, a Year 10 student at The Matthew Arnold School, for his outstanding work with Thames Water and Octopus Energy.
Daniel has been investigating compliance at various Thames Water sites around Staines, working to ensure they are not polluting the environment and helping keep rivers cleaner. His dedication has enabled him to visit the Mogden Sewage Treatment Works, where he gained valuable insights from industry experts, worked collaboratively with senior colleagues at Thames Water and put together a remarkable energy saving proposal that could result in a significant reduction in operating costs for the organisation.
We are pleased to hear that Daniel's incredible work has also opened doors for further engineering work experience opportunities. Well done Daniel, for your commitment to making a positive impact on the environment!
