n Author Talk: Ari Rabin- Havt —‘The Fighting Soul’

Tickets: $5, boulderbookstore.org Bernie Sanders inspires fervent love and, even among his enemies, a measure of grudging respect—yet, curiously, we know little about who the man really is, with Sanders deliberately keeping the focus on his policies. Now, with The Fighting Soul, Ari Rabin-Havt takes us where no profiles or televised interviews have been able to go. As a close advisor and deputy campaign manager on Sanders’ most recent—and likely last—presidential campaign, the tireless Rabin-Havt spent more hours between 2017 and 2020 with the Vermont senator than anyone else. The Fighting Soul, an unforgettable chronicle of life on the road with Sanders and the first in-depth portrait of this fiercely independent, and famously private, left-wing firebrand.

Join for an evening of jazz featuring the Charles Blenzig Trio, with Hunter Roberts on bass and Harold Summey on drums. A menu of small plates imagined by Chef Rising Tiger will be available by table service, as well as signature cocktails by Abbott & Wallace Distilling and a selection of wine and beer. Artist-focused, community-oriented, and committed to showcasing the infinite potential of nonfiction media, the third annual Mimesis Documentary Festival, Aug. 2-7, is an immersive theatrical and virtual slate of movies, workshops, and more with artists, producers and scholars from around the world. The festival brings together six days of screenings, installation-based documentary art pieces, workshops, and conversations with some of the most dynamic voices in documentary media exploring contemporary international culture.

A protege of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, he quickly became a master storyteller in his own right, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, Emmylou Harris, The Pretenders, and countless others.

Tickets: $25-$56, cupresents.org Lovewit has left his London home in the care of his trusted servant Jeremy, who promptly changes his name and transforms the property into headquarters for an elaborate criminal enterprise. A laugh-out-loud satire from the slick wit of Shakespeare’s rival Ben Jonson, the Original Practices performance of The Alchemist is a one-night-only event.

n Opera in the Park—Eras of Opera

Tickets: $5-$10, thedairy.org Tracing the musical form back to the 16th century, classical period, romantic period and all the way to the contemporary era, enjoy the history of opera under the stars. This family-friendly concert will feature some of Boulder’s most talented rising artists performing classic arias and scenes from Handel, Mozart, Bellini, Verdi, Floyd, Heggie and more! There will be a fenced beer garden and food trucks.
