Welcome from the Dean In the early 1990s, Tony Kushner’s two-part play Angels in America transformed American theatre.

Gorgeously theatrical but also unflinching in its depiction of the AIDS crisis, Angels gifted us with an opportunity to consider some of the most pressing issues facing our society.

A work of fiction with real-world resonance, Angels invites us to bear witness to the experience of our neighbor. It prompts us to become engaged citizens: work to eradicate intolerance and prejudice, be a force for good in the lives of others, and, of course, vote.

Tony Kushner’s masterpiece is the perfect production to launch the inaugural season of Boston University Joan and Edgar Booth Theatre. The lessons of Angels are as important today as they were twenty-five years ago.

Alfred Bardwell-Evans (Roy) Alfred is a junior Acting major, and is thrilled and humbled to be part of the team telling this incredible story. He has previously appeared in several other shows at BU, including Rhinoceros at Booth last Spring.

Hannah Beebe (Ensemble) Hannah is a senior Acting major. She is very grateful to be part of this production and gives a huge thank-you to the cast and crew for bringing this special story to life. Thank you for coming, make sure you stretch during intermission, and enjoy the show!

Madison Findling (Harper) Madison is a senior Theatre Arts major. She is beyond grateful to work on this production with a team of such fearless storytellers. She dedicates this to the victims of the AIDS crisis, both now and then, whose stories have gone untold for far too long.

Emily Hentschel (Ensemble) Emily is a proud junior Theatre Arts major and she is thrilled to be part of this beautiful show. Her recent roles include Imogen in Cymbeline and Waitress in Rhinoceros. She would like to thank the Angels squad for all their love and hard work. Enjoy, enjoy!

Thomas Mitsock (Louis) Thomas is a senior Acting major. His plans after graduation include making art. Thomas feels incredibly indebted to his teachers and guides along the way, as well as to the members of the LGBTQ+ community who fought for every freedom he has today.

Dillon McGuire (Ensemble) Dillon is overjoyed to be performing in Booth in this fantastic play. Other BU credits include 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, The Labyrinth of Desire and Cabaret. Outside of BU, he has worked with Alley Coffey Casting in Dublin, Ireland, as well as SpeakEasy Stage, The FUDGE Theatre Company and Boston’s Playwrights’ Platform.

Connor Paradis (Ensemble) Connor is a Boston-based theatre artist currently pursuing his BFA in Acting. Recent credits include Luna Gale (New Century Theatre), Othello (Dream Role Players), The Skin of Our Teeth (Silverthorne Theatre), and The Little Mermaid (PaintBox Theatre). He is also a director, his most recent project being Lobby Hero at Boston University.

Oreine Robinson (Angel) Oreine is a senior BFA Acting major. Oreine is originally from Winston-Salem, NC, where she graduated from the UNCSA High School program. Her hobbies include baking and improvisational dancing. Oreine is wickedly excited and honored to be involved in the storytelling of this essential American play.

Lucy Rydell (Ensemble) Lucy is a senior Theatre Arts major who has studied acting, playwriting, and directing. Lucy is grateful

In the spring, he will direct Horizon Line, his play based on The Odyssey.

Jillian Robertson (Director, Millennium Approaches) Jillian is a proud co-founder of Sanguine Theatre Company in NYC. Currently she is pursuing her MFA in Directing from Boston University. As an independent director she has worked with theaters all over the country including Arena Stage, Boston University Theater, Judson Theatre, and STC. She is profoundly grateful to friends and family for their support.

Kirk Ruby (Sound Designer, Millennium Approaches) Kirk Ruby is a senior at Boston University.

Jenn Ruygt (Production Manager) Jenn is a second-year MFA candidate in Production Management. This summer she worked with Juniper Street Productions on Moulin Rouge at the Colonial Theatre. She’s also a stage manager with the Reduced Shakespeare Company.

Eric J. Simon (Stage Manager, Millennium Approaches) Eric is a junior Stage Management major. At BU, he has previously worked on Albert Herring (ASM), Ripe Frenzy (ASM), and pool (no water) (SM). Over the summer he was the Stage Manager for eleven different productions and is looking forward to studying

abroad in London in the upcoming semester.

Hannah Solomon (Lighting Designer, Millennium Approaches & Associate Lighting Designer, Perestroika) Hannah is excited to share the work of Millennium Approaches. In addition to collaborating with her favorite person, Mark Fortunato, this whole process has been a unique, fruitful and informative experience. Angels in America is definitely a highlight of her final year at BU! Stephanie Lynn Yackovetsky (Sound Designer, Perestroika) Stephanie is a second-year MFA candidate. Past credits include: Antigone (BU), Aurora Borealis (BU); Metamorphoses (Cambridge School of Weston); The Saint Plays (Suffolk University); Radium Girls (Suffolk University). Before BU, she taught at the Cambridge School of Weston after earning her BA in Theatre Studies from Suffolk University.

Halfway through a late night of too much coffee and too many papers to grade, the two of us began discussing our favorite plays. It was then that we discovered our mutual love for Angels in America. To share a play on each of our lists was somewhat surprising to us as, though we are close friends and admire each other’s work greatly, we aesthetically approach our work from inherently different places. Throughout this process, it has become increasingly apparent as to why Angels speaks to both of us, and so many. Angels defies genre, and encapsulates what we both find necessary to preserve the human spirit.

In this climate of uncertainty and fear, we find ourselves in circumstances both foreign and familiar. Angels brings to light how much work there is left to be done in establishing humanity for all. Can we be vulnerable enough as a country, as a people, to reach across our respective aisles, or turn to the person next to us, and together find resilience and commonality?

As Kushner himself states: “the great work begins.”

Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Theatre The School of Theatre at the College of Fine Arts at Boston University is a leading conservatory for the study of acting, stage management, design, production, and all aspects of the theatre profession. These programs of study are enriched by the School’s access to the greater liberal arts programs at Boston University. The School of Theatre values the notion of “the new conservatory” and seeks to provide students with opportunities for artistic growth through a rigorous curriculum, professional connections, and an emphasis on collaboration and new work.

Boston University Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre Opened in December 2017, this bold, state-of-the-art structure encourages innovation, conversation, and collaboration. The flexible design of Booth Theatre allows for the inventive evolution of performances and a deep engagement with audiences. Research is at the core of Boston University, and the College of Fine Arts practices it every day in the form of creative experimentation. Booth Theatre and the adjacent CFA Production Center are laboratories for such research, and in every detail, they are purpose-built for discovery. The Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre is funded in part by a $10 million gift from BU Trustee Stephen M.
