I forgot my ID, but a thin plastic card can’t contain my identity

You wouldn’t forget your keys, so don’t forget about me

Don’t leave home without your wallet, home is like the feeling when you look up

I feel incomplete without my phone,

I feel made whole when I face the sun above

A question that needs to be answered, Who are you without their love?

Heaven connection

Bonded complete

People we need

The cycle repeats

Friendship and family

A bite to eat

Having a good time

Black Panther

The space with our hands and minds show the true colors of what we really feel, hear, see, and touch. The true colors of our skin tone show how we really want to fight for our rights.

We The People

This piece shows the struggle that black people in America went through to gain the right to vote. The constitution is included to highlight the hypocrisy of a nation where ‘all men are created equal’. Black people weren’t allowed to bear arms, or own land. They were denied life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

God will rise

This piece features black musicians from different time periods, Louis Armstrong, Jimi Hendrix and Nipsey Hussle among others. They are all dead, this is like a jam session in heaven.

“Ancient Egypt had the five major components of civilization. Which are cities, specialized workers, complex governing institutions, record keeping, and advanced technology. They were able to invent the calendar which contained the year of 365 days divided into 12 months, 30 days each month, and 24 hours per day.”

Black Diamond

“The skull is unique and sparkly, it changes the way I see it because we’ve all seen a gray skull before but this one has jewelry on the forehead. A skull usually symbolizes death, but this skull seems to symbolize life as well. There are a number of other heads in the picture, some with eyes closed facing right and left. One of the heads belongs to Angela Davis who has a quote written in her hair.”

Cloud 9 Washington

First I paired George and Booker T Washington. Next, I added Stagecoach Mary on the left side, she was the first woman to work for the post office. I added the fourth figure behind George Washington to show the juxtaposition between what he said and what he did.”

The Suffering from Mothers to Sons

A mothers pain and suffering dates back many years.

Ever since our mothers worked on plantations to the moment their sons were forced to war.

Our mothers suffer, their mothers suffer. Their pain flows as strong white rapids in the Mississippi river. Their pain grows from the blood riddled soil of our ancestors.

Our mothers showed no pain from the blood they reaped. Our mothers lay their tears in the roots of the weeping willows for the pain of lost sons. Our mothers lay their children to lay in red soil as dark as blood.

We suffer, you suffer, they suffer. Our mothers paved a way for us to learn, their sons died for us to learn Love has 4 letters but so does hate. Knowledge has 9 letters and so does education. With that we learn that the word sons means lost and suffocation.

Our mothers today feel our ancestors pain and suffering from losing their sons to forceful deaths. To our present moms losing their sons from voluntary gang violence.

What has society become?

What have we become?

People Make Choices

“I was thinking about Woods. Which reminded me of memories when I see in this piece. Memories of me and one of my friends listening to records. A lot of nostalgia. I was inspired by all the different people and what choices they can make. Some could be right, some can be wrong.

We aren’t taught how to work with money in school, how to spend money. Saving, responsibilities that come with it, taxes...…
