BOSCO TECH’S MONTHLY NEWSLETTER
THE GEAR
ISSUE 134 NOV ‘23
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Happy November, Tech family! So many good things took place in the past few weeks that it’s challenging to summarize them all on the pages of a newsletter. Suffice to say, students, instructors and coaches are very busy and our administration is incredibly proud of all that is being accomplished. At our recent State of the School address, Principal Jeff Krynen and I gave an overview of the academic accomplishments of our students, the plans being made for the school’s future growth and the strong additions to our leadership in the form of dynamic new board members. This is an exciting time at the Tech and we’re happy that you and your family are a part of it! As I’ve recently had the opportunity to share with numerous alumni, both on the road and at our recent Techmen Reunion Weekend, our graduates are the embodiment of the Salesian system and Bosco Tech’s foundational goals in action. For more than six decades, we have been preparing students for emerging careers and advanced studies in technology fields that continue to rapidly evolve. We are fully supportive as other schools make vital inroads in STEM education, but it’s what the Tech has been all about for generations! And our alumni are the proof! Our current students are being equipped for tomorrow’s technological professions, just as their predecessors were. Seniors who spent this past summer working in technology and applied sciencefocused internships are now applying to colleges and universities across the country with resumes enhanced by the real-world insights they gained in the professional world. Several of those amazing opportunites were provided by our alumni in industry--thank you, Techmen! Roughly half of our junior class is currently undertaking the six-month internship preparation program in hopes of obtaining similar experiences next summer. They are benefiting greatly from the guidance being shared by the helpful seniors who are providing Q&A panel sessions. Assisting their ‘younger brothers’ is a vital part of the Tech’s unique and intangible sense of community. And so, they are already paying it forward.
WHAT A BUSY MONTH OCTOBER WAS!
That same community based on brotherhood will welcome into its ranks our newest Techmen at the Freshman Tie Ceremony on Nov. 5. While each academic year seems to go faster, and the cyclical nature of each year’s activities seems more evident, it’s important to stop and savor these celebrations of high school life and appreciate and applaud the young people being enriched by them. I am truly grateful our Tech families, each so committed to seeing their sons thrive, and to our teachers and staff who support the students and their families.
Especially thankful in this season, Memo Gutierrez (AU ‘83) President
