A Catalogue of Funny obs

A long time ago

, in the attic of an old house, there were found hidden parchments with written descriptions and some drawings. I don’t know why, but those papers came to my hands. Perhaps the universe colludes to give you what it’s meant to be yours. Maybe the most diverse questions have the most unexpected answers.

When I received the papers, I didn’t know what I had in my hands. But as I came to the heart of the matter, I realized the treasure I had discovered: a book of curious jobs! And I’ve been able to find out that all of them existed. Some have evolved and they have adapted the modern times, while others have disappeared.

Here it is a selection of the documents that I keep with love and respect. There are more, but some pieces are damaged and it can’t be read what it’s written. Also, there are some illustrations without any explanation or even lists of jobs without any other

information. Who should have been the “dune hairdressers”, the “twilight collectors”, the “dream seekers” or the “idea hangers”? I often ask myself that question! And my intuition tells me that they were all jobs that made sense. Regarding what we know about the jobs from which we have information, there’s one thing I know for sure: they all have made the world a better place.

Thanks to the best preserved texts and illustrations, I’ve been able to reconstruct the jobs you have below. At the beginning, there’s the question that I ask myself regarding the job description. However, this is not the only possible question –or answer–.

Because… do you mean that you don’t practise a curious job without knowing it?

The Lightcatcher Why are there stars in the sky?

So that the LIGHTCATCHERS capture them and give them to people in need.

A lightcatcher is stealthy, silent, tenacious and he is always alert. He works at night, when the stars shine in the sky, and he knows the constellations very well.

The lightcatcher captures the stars’ light and he gives it to the children who are born all over the world. He also gives them to those who need a little star for one thing or another. What if it was a lightcatcher who guided the Three Wise Men?

The Cloudhunter

Why do the clouds pretend to be dragons, whales or ships?

Because the CLOUDHUNTERS have the time of their lives creating these shapes.

A cloudhunter is naïve, spontaneous, creative and playful by nature. That’s why his head is always in the clouds! He raises with a colourful balloon and he flies up to the sky. With a big net, he catches the cloud and gives him funny shapes. Scientists call them cumulonimbus, stratus or cirrus, but the cloudhunter, the sky sculptor, likes to say that he makes whales, elephants or green or purple sweeties. He loves to watch how people have fun trying to guess the shapes he made in the morning or in the afternoon.

The Dragon Trainer Why do dragons need to be trained?

Because if not, they wouldn’t fly, swim or breathe fire.

A dragon trainer is brave and she has a lot of courage. She has a great talent to win the beats’ affection. She never uses violent techniques, but she tries to know how the dragon feels and she puts herself in his shoes. When they trust each other, the beast helps her in whatever she needs, flying, swimming or breathing fire. Well, they don’t usually breathe fire, only in St. George’s day feasts and things like that!

The Forest Carer Why are there such magical and special forests?

Because it lives a forest carer for sure!

A forest carer gets his energy from the trees, as if instead of blood he had sap. If we took him out of nature, he would die of sadness and lack of pure air.

The forest carer takes care of the environment’s little details. He is so plain and discreet that he doesn’t stand out. But if he wouldn’t exist, we will miss him terribly. His home is the forest, his family the animals and his roof the stars.
