he time is near, the mission is clear and the 2019

Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival is upon us. It’s hard to believe that this is our 18th adventure together.

And, during that time, Great Stage Park has become much

more than just concert grounds—it’s become a second home.

Over the years, we’ve welcome some of the truly iconic artists of our time to The Farm, from classic-rock-era legends like Paul McCartney, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Elton John, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, to alternative and hard-rock icons like U2, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse and The Killers to hip-hop royalty like Jay-Z, Eminem, Beastie Boys, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Kayne West to jam-scene troubadours like The Dead, Widespread Panic, the Allman Brothers Band and Dave Matthews Band.

night and a two-set, festival-closing marathon on Sunday. Rapper, actor and all-around entertainer Donald Glover, who performs as Childish Gambino has been a Bonnaroovian for many years, first appearing in This Tent on a Thursday in 2011, returning over the years. And, now, we are excited to welcome him to the What Stage for a headlining set on Friday.

Hip-hop/rock hit-maker Post Malone has also been with us for a while—in 2016 he made his debut here in The Other Tent— and we are excited to welcome him back for a big show on The What Stage on Saturday night.

We’ve watched acts like My Morning Jacket, Vampire Weekend, Portugal. The Man, Bassnectar, Kings of Leon, The Black Keys, Alt-J, Alabama Shakes and MGMT jump from our intimate tents to marquee festival stages around the world and welcomed familiar faces like Steve Winwood, Lionel Richie and Chance the Rapper (multiple times!) for stealth performances.

Plus, we can’t wait for to see what old friends like The Lumineers, Solange, The Avett Brothers, ODESZA, Hozier, Kacey Musgraves, The National, Brandi Carlile, Mac DeMarco and new faces like Cardi B and Brockhampton have in store for us.

(True fact: The Lumineers’ Wesley Schultz rolled into the first two Bonnaroos as a fan and camped out in these very same fields.)

Bonnaroo is has long been known for its eclectic musical offerings, and this year is no exception. We are psyched to welcome back Phish—whose late-‘90s campouts helped lay the groundwork for our own little utopia—for both a late-night show on Friday 6

Even if you’ve joined us in the past and mastered the difference between This, That and The Other, we have some new surprises in store. Where In The Woods— located on the Eastern woods of Bonnaroo’s campground, near both VIP camping and Plaza 2—is sure to became a Bonnaroo staple,

transforming a section of our forest into an unforgettable magical landscape for late-night fun and a daytime escape from reality with its DJs offerings and surprise late-night sets on an otherworldly dance floor. Paramore’s Hayley Williams is also returning to The Farm, transforming Plaza 2 into Roo’s Sanctuary of Self Love, featuring everything from nightly themed dance parties to alternative therapies and panels on mental health and selflove. Fans will also get a chance to win a makeover with style extraordinaire Brian O’Connor of Good Dye Young and meet Williams herself. And Brooklyn’s House of Yes and Little Cinema will return to Plaza 3, mixing thrilling performance spectacles and one-of-a-kind dance party madness. Plaza 3 will also host a clear highlight of this year’s event—the first ever Bonnaroo Pride parade.

The SuperJam has long been a direct link to our roots in the world of improvisational music and, this year, we are using that communal space to honor some of our sonic forefathers. Curated by the DJ/producer/saxophonist GRiZ, “G.O.A.T.– A Celebration of Music Legends” will bring together Nikki Glaspie (Nth, Dumpstaphunk, Beyonce), Big Yuki (GRiZ Live Band), Owen Barry (GRiZ Live Band), The Naughty Professor Horns, ProbCause, Christopher Perrier (GRiZ, Trombone Shorty), Stu Brooks (GRiZ, Dub Trio, Saturday Night Live), Nicholas Petricca (WALK THE MOON), K. Flay, Hobo Johnson, Noah Kahan, Nahko; Sunsquabi, Deva Mahal, Jennifer Hartwick & James Casey (Trey Anastasio Band) and The Rhythm Section from David Bowie’s Blackstar—

Jason Lindner, Mark Guiliana and Tim Lefebvre—for an eye-opening, crossgenre performance. And, as anyone who has attended a SuperJam in the past can attest, a few other friendly faces are also likely to stop by for a sit-in.

And, in the spirit of hootenannies, please help us welcome back the Grand Ole Opry for the second year in a row. The Nashville-based radio program has rarely, in its 90-plus-year history, taken its famed show outside of Music City and, on Thursday, That Tent will welcome event hosts and inaugural Bonnaroo alums Old Crow Medicine Show and fellow Opry members Ricky Skaggs and Riders in the Sky for a special taping. Steve Earle and The Dukes, Morgan Evans, Ashley Monroe, Molly Tuttle and Wendy Moten are all slated to join in the celebration. The Opry Square Dancers and longtime Opry announcer Bill Cody will also take part in this new Bonnaroo tradition.

So, whether you’ve come to see some of your favorite acts, sample all Centeroo has to offer or simply to take a dip in our always colorful fountain, we’re so glad that you’ve arrived and can’t wait for you to see what’s in store for year 18. We hope you discover some new music, reconnect with some old acquaintances and high-five a fellow Bonnaroovian on Friday. And, as Phish says, “Whatever you do, take care of your shoes.”

GENERAL INFO

ENTRY POLICY

The Neighborhood

While Bonnaroo can often feel like you're on another planet, we are located in the hustle and bustle of a fully functioning city. We look for your help to respect the local neighbors and businesses during your time in Manchester—obey pedestrian rules and respect anyone you may come in contact with. Remember, we are guests here. Show everyone some Bonnaroo love.

Wristbands

We use an ultrahigh security wristband system called RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) that equips each wristband with its own uniquely coded chip.

Wristbands must be worn at all 12

times. Your wristband will be scanned when you enter the tollbooths and each time you enter/ exit the Tower or The Arch entrances into Centeroo. Do not tamper with your wristband in any way. Do not cut it, burn it, stretch it, fold it, spindle it or mutilate it. Altered wristbands will be invalidated and any person in possession of an altered wristband will be charged a replacement fee or may be ejected from the festival site. If you have any questions or problems with your wristband (even if it itches), visit one of the two Wristband Customer Service stations located at the Tower entrance and The Arch entrance to Centeroo. NOTE: You MUST register your wristband in order to enter the festival. This can be done online or through the mobile app.

RE-ENTRY POLICY

In + Out of Campgrounds in a Vehicle

We hope you won't need to leave our little utopia during the festival.

But if you do, please wait until Friday evening to give everyone a chance to arrive, unless there is a serious emergency. It is best to arrive on The Farm with enough supplies to last you the whole weekend. If you forget something, then we've got you covered. There are two General Stores onsite offering a variety of items for all your weekend needs.

Any time you leave the campgrounds, you'll have to go through another vehicle search when you return (just like you were entering for the first time). Remember, you may only exit through the East and West Tollbooths.

In + Out of Campgrounds on Foot You may leave and re-enter the event grounds on foot at any time and as often as you like, but only through the East and West Tollbooths. You must be scanned out by our staff and scanned back in when you return. Very important: If you do not have your wristband scanned out, then you will not be allowed to re-enter the site.

It’s obvious, but we have to say it: Do not attempt to leave through Highway Tollbooth, even if you originally came that way. It’s a highway. It’s dangerous. What would your mother say?

Camping + Parking Vehicle Passes

All vehicles entering the festival site MUST have a valid vehicle pass. If you are camping with your car in GA, you will need a Car Camping Pass. If you will be driving in daily and parking, you will need a Day Parking Pass. The Day Parking lot opens on Thursday at 8 a.m. and Day Parking passes will not be accepted prior to this time. All vehicle passes can be purchased on the Bonnaroo website.

Emergency Vehicle Access

Our roads might not look like city streets, but for emergency and maintenance vehicles, they do the job as long as you keep them open.

Which is what we ask you to do.

Please park in designated areas and don’t drive around the site.

Walk on the sides of the roads, and please let all official vehicles through.

CAMPGROUNDS

Camping

The campgrounds are conveniently divided into sections by streets (East-West) and avenues (NorthSouth). Each General Admission Campground section is strategically named on the official Bonnaroo Site Map so you can find your way home, and tell people where to find you.

The campgrounds will close at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17. As a safety measure, there will not be any open fires allowed inside the festival grounds. (This specifically includes the campgrounds.) Please exercise extraordinary caution with matches, disposal of cigarette butts and any other type of open flame.

Family Camping

Family Camping has always been a part of the Bonnaroo community.

This year, we want to invite families who want to camp in a chill, familyfriendly environment to sign up in advance to participate.

The Family Camping area is located in the General Admission Campgrounds, so fans must have a regular Bonnaroo Car Camping Pass to bring a vehicle into the designated

Family Camping area. There is no additional cost to camp in this area beyond the Camping Pass. When you arrive at Bonnaroo, let the Tollbooth staff know you are in Family Camping and they will mark your vehicle to help parking staff direct you to the Family Camping area.

Patrons with Disabilities: Accessible Camping + Parking

The Accessible Camping and Accessible Day Parking areas are close to the entrance to Centeroo and are reserved for fans with mobility disabilities. A governmentissued accessible parking license plate, placard or hangtag is required to use these areas. For more information about the Access Program visit: bonnaroo.com/ accessibility.

PLAZAS

Camping at Bonnaroo is hardly “camping” by most definitions of the word (unless your local park offers free Wi-Fi, karaoke, showers, celebrity surprises, late-night parties and more—sounds like an awesome park). Plazas are strategically located public places throughout the campgrounds for the community to gather, enjoy art and activities, as well as access

amenities, info, medical or other safety needs. No matter where you’re camping, you’ll have a Plaza nearby. We’re taking inspiration from the most beautiful public spaces around the world that bring people together as a community to have an awesome time.

Previously called “Pods,� Plazas have so many fun improvements coming your way that they simply felt too big to fit into something called a Pod... check out some of

what we’ve got in store below, and keep an eye out for more updates including three more structures like The Grind and The Garage!

Bathrooms

In 2016, we debuted our fancy new permanent bathrooms in Centeroo.

These are located near the Tower and at the lower crossover between Centeroo and the Main Venue.

There are additional porta-pottys in areas throughout Centeroo and the Main Venue. Aside from the permanent structures in Centeroo, we have flushable "vacuum toilets" at all Plaza locations in the GA campgrounds. Additional portapottys are throughout the campgrounds. All portable toilets are equipped with hand sanitizer.

They are cleaned frequently, but they are also used frequently, so please do your part to make the porta-potty experience as clean and enjoyable (maybe that’s not the right word) as possible. Use them only to deposit what nature intended and help keep them clean.

With that being said, please DO NOT dispose of any sanitary wipes in any of the permanent restrooms or vac toilets please! Remember the Golden Rule of Public Toilets: Leave them as you'd like to find them!

Hand Washing + Water Stations

Hand-washing stations are located at each Plaza well as in Centeroo, so you can brush those teeth, wet 16

that face and cleanse that soul.

The water at these stations is 100% filtered and drinkable, so feel free to fill up your water bottles.

Remember, this is not your bathtub— there are showers for bathing.

Showers

Showers can be found at all Plaza locations except Plaza 8, indicated on your festival map. Showers are operated and cleaned by our very own shower fairies during hours of operation: Wednesday from 9 p.m.

-12 a.m. at Plazas 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10.

On Thursday, all locations will be open from Thursday-Sunday from 6 a.m.-2 a.m. On Monday, showers will be open from 6 a.m.-11 am.

Showers cost $10 during peak hours daily between 6 a.m.-2 p.m. and 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Take advantage of happy-hour pricing, where showers are just $5 from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. and again from 10 p.m.-2 a.m.

Bonnaroo Golf Cart Service

For a fee, our friends at Pedicab People Movers will help you get around the campgrounds.

Designated routes are indicated on your festival map, and the taxis are clearly marked, so be on the lookout– flag one down to catch a ride!

SAFETY INFO

Safety Staff

You can find our safety staff roaming through the campground, at every Plaza, at the entrance to Centeroo and the Main Venue and at all the stages, as well as throughout all of Centeroo and the Main Venue. Any staff member at the Tollbooths can answer any questions or concerns you may have entering the festival. Our safety (aka, security) staff is trained to help make sure everyone has a good time and stays safe. If you have a security issue in the campgrounds, each Plaza has a security station open 24 hours.

Mounted security patrols (yes, on horseback!) roam the campground areas at all times and can assist as well. Lasso one if you need help. All vehicles will be searched on entry to the festival at the Tollbooths (which you should definitely keep in mind when deciding what to bring). And prepare to be (politely) searched each time you enter Centeroo or the Main Venue.

Remember, our security staff is truly here to help... whatever the issue may be.

Medical Tents

Lots of things can happen on The Farm: bee stings, arm-wrestling injuries, faces rocked off while dancing. That’s why the Main Venue, Centeroo and every Plaza is home to a Bonnaroo medical professionals, staffed around the clock with licensed medical staff. The medical tents are a "Safe Haven." In Centeroo, a medical tent is located nearby the Oasis area and the Silent Disco— look for the balloon overhead. In the Main Venue, medical services are located near The Arch entrance as well as behind the Guest Bleachers at the What Stage. Medical staff is always on duty. In an emergency, if you're not near a medical tent, find a staff person with a radio or notify the nearest security personnel so that they can get you whatever help you may need.

Food Safety

Please don't buy from unlicensed vendors. We work hard to ensure that all official food and drink is good and safe. And really, if you buy something from an unlicensed vendor, you have no idea what you're getting.

There is lots of great stuff to buy from official Bonnaroo vendors, who deserve your business, especially because they have made a real commitment to support Bonnaroo.

CENTEROO/ MAIN VENUE

Hours of Operation

Centeroo is the heart of the festival.

It opens at noon on Thursday, June 13, and will stay open nonstop, just like Las Vegas, until 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 16. Adjacent to Centeroo is the Main Venue, where the What Stage is located. The Main Venue opens at 2 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and closes after the What Stage headliner takes their last bow. When you enter these areas, you’ll be searched and you must show your all-powerful wristband. You do not need to purchase a ticket for the various activities throughout Centeroo, with the exception of the Ferris Wheel and the Big Ass Water Slide.

Bag Policy (NEW)

We have a NEW Bag Policy for Centeroo & Main Venue this year.

Please make sure to plan accordingly for your trip into Centeroo. Here are the restrictions on bag/sizing: Clear Bags up to 20" x 15" x 9", Clear ZipTop Bag up to one gallon, Waist Pack or Fanny Pack, Small Clutch Bag up to 4.5" x 5.5", Empty Hydration Pack up to 20" x 15" x 9" with a limit of two pockets plus the bladder pocket, and 1-Pocket Drawstring Bags up to 14" x 18". For additional details on items allowed into Centeroo and Main Venue, visit bonnaroo.com

Totem Guidelines

A few notes about Totems. All totems must be 7-feet tall or UNDER. All totem poles must be PVC, light

wood, or aluminum. No more than an inch in diameter. No sharp edges or offensive language please. There will be NO totems allowed in front of the soundboard. All totems must be behind the soundboard at any stage or they will be confiscated.

What Is Not Allowed Inside Centeroo + Main Venue

No cans or glass bottles of any kind.

No alcohol, video-recording devices, professional photography equipment or cameras with detachable lenses longer than 2 inches (point-and-shoot cameras without additional lenses are OK), laser pens or focused-light devices, lawn chairs, folding chairs that sit higher than a foot off the ground, anything that might impair the sight of other spectators (like flags, umbrellas or shade structures) or

anything that’s prohibited anywhere else on the festival grounds. We reserve the right to add items to this list if necessary. All patrons are subject to a search by Bonnaroo security personnel upon entry into Centeroo and the Main Venue.

Please be advised that Bonnaroo and its promoters, performers and staff will not be responsible for any items that are confiscated during search procedures.

Barricades Arrangements at the What + Which Stages

Following the model of most European festivals, we have implemented a double-barricade system in the very front of the What Stage and the Which Stage. This system allows more fans access to the up-front experience over the course of the weekend. As shown in the diagram,

the entrance to the pit areas are located at the front of the stage on each side. A queue will be created on both sides along the venue walls.

Each pit will be cleared after each performance, allowing a new group of fans to enter the area. You are not allowed to remain in the area to wait for the next concert. If you want to be in a pit for any of the performances at the What or Which Stage, please be sure to get in line well before the performance is scheduled to begin.

And keep in mind, you must follow the instructions of all security personnel, who work actively to ensure that you and everyone around you enjoy a great concert experience.

General Stores

There are two General Stores located on the festival grounds– both in the campgrounds. General Stores are open from 9 a.m.– 3 a.m. during the festival (closing earlier on Sunday night) and offer personal hygiene items, batteries, disposable cameras, ice, beer, water, soda, food—you get the picture.

GENERAL INFO

Locker Rentals

For a fee, lockers are available to stash your stuff in during the festival.

Lockers can be found inside the main venue, right past The Arch, and are accessible all weekend long.

Info Booths

There are two main Info Booths on the festival grounds–one inside the Main Venue (near The Arch), and the other in Centeroo. Both are noted on your festival map. You'll also find Satellite Info Booths located at each Plaza. Plaza Info Booths stay open 24 hours until Monday. The Centeroo Info Booth will close at 10 p.m. on Sunday.

The Main Venue Info Booth is only open during Main Venue events.

Lost + Found

Lost + Found is located at Plaza 4.

If you lose something, or someone, check there first. If it (or they) are not there the first time, then check again later. And if you find something that needs to be returned to its owner, please drop it off at Plaza 4 next to the Tower or at any info booth on the festival site. Lost + Found will close at noon on Monday.

You may also look for or claim your lost item in our online database at bonnaroo.com/lostandfound.

Telephone + Services

There is a cellphone tower on the property, but with so many Bonnaroovians texting and sending photos to jealous friends back home, service can be inconsistent.

If you have an emergency and need access to a phone, visit any Info Booth for assistance.

ATMs

If you need cash, ATMs can be found in Centeroo, the Main Venue, at the General Stores, and at Plazas.

All locations are clearly marked on your festival map.

Clean Vibes

Clean Vibes helps keep the scene clean.

With great fun comes great responsibility. Please help Clean Vibes, our heroic trash and recycling crew, by keeping your site and the concert areas clean.

Recycle, compost and pick up after yourself.

What goes where: RECYCLING: Place in recycling collection bins throughout site and blue bags at your campsite. All plastic containers, aluminum and tin cans, glass, clean mixed paper, drink cartons, 21

plastic packaging and grocery bags can be recycled this year.

COMPOST: Place all food waste

and other compostables in compost collection bins throughout site or in clear bags at your campsite. (Do not contaminate with trash.) All plates, cups, forks and other food service items sold by festival vendors are compostable.

CIGARETTE BUTTS: Place in butt

bins located throughout Centeroo for recycling or collect and turn them in at the Clean Vibes Trading Post for prizes.

LANDFILL: If it can’t be recycled

or composted, then place it in the landfill collection bins throughout

the site or in a clear bag at your campsite. Styrofoam, chip bags, ice cream and candy wrappers should go in this bin. When the music stops, please clean up your campsite. (Get extra bags at your Plaza.) Pick up bottle caps and any other debris. Tie up your bags and leave them at the edge of the road.

We'll take it from there. Collect cans, cups, bottles or cigarette butts using a bag from the Clean Vibes Trading Post in Planet Roo and trade them in for points to redeem for a variety of great prizes.

Soberoo

Soberoo is a group of passionate, like-minded music fans who choose to remain drug and alcohol free at the festival. The group holds

meetings daily at noon, 4 p.m., 8 p.m. and midnight. (There is not a midnight meeting on Sunday.) Look for the yellow balloons and get full details at the Soberoo Tent located across from That Tent in Centeroo.

This year, we will begin hosting a “morning stretch/spiritual strength� session at 10 a.m. and a guided meditation at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

PLEASE NOTE: Soberoo has

absolutely no opinion on the issue of drugs and alcohol, and neither condemns or condones it. Our simple purpose is to provide support and information to those who seek the comfort and camaraderie of other clean and sober people at the festival. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stay substance-free at Bonnaroo. Though Soberoo consists primarily of those recovering from addiction, we are open to anyone who wishes to remain clean and sober this weekend.

henever Phish appears at Bonnaroo, it feels

more like a homecoming than a simple booking.

Though the Vermont Quartet has only performed

on The Farm a couple of times, in 2009 and 2012, their

single-band camping extravaganzas helped inspire the

festival’s founders almost 20 years ago. In fact, several

key members of Bonnaroo’s production staff and artistic twam cut their teeth working for Phish in the late ‘90s, helping lay the groundwork for Great Stage Park.

The members of Phish have also been with Bonnaroo since the beginning, performing with their solo projects and staging a reunion or two along the way. In celebration of Phish’s return after a seven-year absence, here’s a look back at Phish’s most memorable moments in Manchester, Tenn.

2002:

While touring in support of his proper solo debut, guitarist Trey Anastasio and his Afrobeat-leaning big band close out the inaugural Bonnaroo with an exploratory performance that climaxes with a jam-heavy, three-song second set.

For his encore, Anastasio offers solo acoustic renditions of Phish staples “Bathtub Gin” and “Wilson,” and an electric version of his thencurrent single “Alive Again.” For the

2003:

Bassist Mike Gordon makes the most of his trip to Manchester, playing a show with noted guitar picker Leo Kottke, sitting in with livetronica act Sound Tribe Sector 9 and participating in the festival’s signature SuperJam. The latter set draws in Galactic drummer Stanton Moore, North Mississippi Allstars guitarist Luther Dickinson and the legendary Dr. John, whose 1974 Desitively Bonnaroo album provided the fest with its name. The all-star cast focuses primarily on New Orleans classics like “Tipitina,” “Right Place, Wrong Time” and “Iko Iko,” while welcoming G. Love for a cameo.

Just two months before Phish’s purported final shows, Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman and keyboardist Page McConnell each take the stage at Bonnaroo with different side-projects.

Anastasio plays two headlining shows on the What Stage—the first as part of Dave Matthews & Friends (pausing for an emotional “Waste” with that collective’s namesake and leading the celebratory ensemble through “Bathtub Gin”) and the second with his own Trey Anastasio Band (welcoming the Nashville Chamber Orchestra for a special first set). Meanwhile, Fishman performs with the long-running

Jazz Mandolin project in The Other Tent and McConnell leads the electro-Latin combo Vida Blue and The Spam Allstars in That Tent.

Though McConnell has been working on new Vida Blue music for a while, he hasn’t performed with the band— which featured Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge and the funky Meters’ Russell Batiste—since that special slot.

2005:

Both Anastasio and Gordon return for big shows with their other projects. Gordon holds court in That Tent, playing with The Duo (featuring future JRAD drummer Joe Russo and keyboardist Marco Benevento), running through a mix of covers and originals, sparring with sitar player Gabby La La and closing things out with his eponymous “Mike’s Song.”

Breaking in a new backing band,

Anastasio plays one of the first late-night shows on the Which Stage with the help of unexpected guests like a black-hat-clad Matisyahu and American Idol star Bo Bice. They also debut takes on Joe Walsh’s “Funk #49,” Van Halen’s “Panama” and Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry,” among others.

2006:

In what is likely one of the busiest 48-hours of his solo career, Anastasio manages to pack a few reunions, the debut of a new band and an offsite gig into a single weekend.

On Friday, the guitarist regroups Oysterhead—his all-star band with

Primus bassist and Bonnaroo mainstay Les Claypool and Police drummer Stewart Copeland—for the first time in five years on the What Stage, before heading to Maryland Heights, MO, to open for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers the next day.

After that set, Anastasio flies back to Bonnaroo to participate in a special SuperJam that previews his summer tour with G.R.A.B. (a celebrated semi-Phish revival boasting Gordon, Russo and Benevento). Lesh also joins in on “Casey Jones” and “Goin’ Down the Road Feeling Bad” and Gordon plays his own set with his honky-tonk outlet, Ramble Dove.

2009:

For their first official Bonnaroo offerings, the recently reunited Phish turns in two concerts, showing off two sides of their repertoire. First up on Friday, the group plays a rare, late-night set that stretches until 1 am on the What Stage, digging deep while segueing from “Kill Devil Falls” into “Free” and busting out their cover of AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell.”

Then, on Sunday night, the four friends close out Bonnaroo with a full, two-set performance that features fellow headliner Bruce Springsteen on “Mustang Sally,” “Bobby Jean” and “Glory Days.” Amazingly, Phish had not performed “Mustang Sally’ in over 1,400 concerts.

2012:

Phish’s most recent Bonnaroo visit also marks the sole time that the group “only” performed one two-set show on Sam McAlister’s former farmland. But, that’s not to say that their appearance isn’t special. Near the end of their first set, the members of Phish bring out country great Kenny Rogers for his classic “The Gambler” and, during their second set, they dust off The Story of the Ghost rarity “Shafty” for the first and only time since 2003, and the fifth time ever. Rogers was clearly in a collaborative mood while onsite—he also welcomed surprise guest Lionel Richie during his own slot.

OLD FRIENDS, FRIENDLY GHOSTS AND G.O.A.T. A Look at Bonnaroo’s Annual SuperJam

he SuperJam has long been one of the Bonnaroo

Music & Arts Festival’s signature offerings, but the all-star gathering’s history actually predates the

event itself. For many years, festival co-founders Superfly hosted eye-opening collaborations in New Orleans during Jazz Fest and brought the concept to The Farm for the inaugural Roo on June 23, 2002.

That loose, celebratory session featured Béla Fleck, Robert Randolph, The String Cheese Incident’s Michael Kang and Galactic guitarist Jeff Raines, who all welcomed several members of their respective bands for a sprawling set that ended with an extended version of “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and set the stage for the many incredible musician mashups that would follow in its path.

Bonnaroo’s SuperJam is truly the epitome of the festival’s singular spirit. No one knows this more than Robin McNicol and Josh Roth, this year’s SuperJam co-producers.

McNicol joined the Bonnaroo family with Superfly back in 2007 and produced the Jams in both 2016 and ‘17, before Roth took over last year, leading to this year’s collaborative effort.

“For fans that have never been to the festival before, the SuperJam is

something that makes Bonnaroo really unique and differentiates it from a lot of the other festivals in the country,” says McNicol, who cites her experience booking Chance the Rapper for the 2017 SuperJam—a last-minute addition that resulted in the Chicago artist leading the SuperJam artists and fans in a rousing sing-along of OutKast’s “Hey Ya”—as “one of the coolest things I’ve done in my professional career.”

Roth, who first attended Bonnaroo as a fan in 2003, experienced his first SuperJam in 2014 and also produced the DapKings-led SuperJam at Arizona’s Lost Lake in 2017 before taking his talents to The Farm. His most memorable moment at the Roo was when he helped bring last year’s Tom Petty tribute SuperJam—led in part by members of My Morning Jacket and Wilco—to life.

For this year’s SuperJam host, McNicol and Roth tapped saxophonist and producer Grant Kwiecinski, better known as GRiZ, who brought in his close collaborator and live-band leader, Stu Brooks, to fill the musical director slot.

“We wanted to find something that would appeal to the folks that are coming because they’re diehard Phish fans, but also to the kids that have never seen them before,”

McNicol explains. “Every year, we look at the lineup and think about who could bring a unique perspective to the SuperJam to keep it fresh and different than what we’ve done before, but also someone who understands the collaborative spirit of it that is unique to Bonnaroo. It’s a very specific thing that we’re looking for.

We had a few ideas, but our first phone call with GRiZ’s team made it apparent that they understood,

were excited about it and had a lot to bring to the table.”

“Some artists really understand the SuperJam and some don’t,” Roth adds. “Some have been to Bonnaroo before as fans or have played it, and they get it. Then there are others that are like, ‘I’ve never heard of that before in my life.’

There’s a lot of work that goes into it across the board, but especially for the core band. So we have to make sure they’re open to that

challenge. It was very clear that GRiZ got it and was excited about it.”

For their part, Kwiecinski and Brooks are more than game for the challenge, which will manifest at this year’s SuperJam, dubbed “G.O.A.T. - A Celebration of Music Legends,” set to take place at This Tent at 1:15 a.m. on Saturday. The theme, Kwiecinski says, came to him quickly once he was confirmed as the 2019 SuperJam leader.

“2017 was the year that both

Bowie and Prince passed away, and also recently lost Mac Miller and Aretha Franklin,” begins Kwiecinski, who played Bonnaroo in 2016 and got to collaborate with one of his musical idols, Kamasi Washington, during the jazz saxophonist’s own SuperJam that year. “These major pillars of my musical foundation have disappeared from the living force of music consciousness, and it feels like there’s such a void.

Instantly, I knew exactly what I

will disappear. It’s our duty to pay homage to these artists.

“And I knew exactly who I had to call to make this idea come to life,” he continues. “There’s this human being that just understands how to bring music to life and how to breathe magic into a moment better than anybody I know. There’s nobody that understands music like this man does. And that would be Stu Brooks.”

It’s my responsibility to celebrate the lives of these musicians. That’s what we’re after. We’re here to celebrate and pay homage, to dance around and to sing out to the heavens, carry these prolific musicians’ messages, to retell their stories so we don’t forget. That’s one of the most powerful things we have, and we need to continue telling these stories, otherwise they 50

GRiZ’s live band for the past couple of years, along with his work in Matisyahu’s ensemble, founded Brooklyn-based group The Dub Trio and has played with and/or produced a plethora of artists in his career, including Pretty Lights, Dr. John, Lady Gaga, Eric Krasno, Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill and 50 Cent. And the musician, who can frequently be seen playing bass onstage, is looking forward to bringing that collaborative experience to this year’s SuperJam. “This isn’t just an opportunity to

perform in front of a lot of people, but also to be respectful and pay homage to people who are loved,” says Brooks. The bassist made his inaugural trip to The Farm to play with Topaz in 2003 and still marvels at experiencing the low end of Phil Lesh, who was headlining that year with The Dead, for the first time.

“There have been a lot of artists who have passed in the last few years, so there is that immediacy, and also a sensitivity for the musicians involved [in the SuperJam]—it can hit close to home for us.”

Several of their GRiZ live band collaborators—drummer Nikki Glaspie, keyboardist Big Yuki, guitarist Owen Barry and vocalist Chrishira Perrier, along with the Naughty Professor Horns and hiphop artist ProbCause, both of whom contributed to GRiZ’s latest album, Ride Waves—will join Kwiecinski and Brooks in the SuperJam house band. The collective will also welcome special guests like Trey Anastasio Band horn players Jennifer Hartswick and James Casey, Walk the Moon frontman Nicholas Petricca, K.Flay, Hobo Johnson, Noah Kahnan, Sunsquabi and Deva Mahal, plus pianist Jason Lindner, drummer Mark Guiliana and former Tedeschi Trucks Band

bassist Tim Lefebvre, a trio that played with the late David Bowie on his farewell album, Blackstar. All told, this year’s SuperJam is packed with the all-star talent to properly honor some of the greatest musicians of all time, and no one is more psyched about the opportunity than Kwiecinski.

“I cannot wait to play music in new formats with new people—most of the time, my format is playing music in front of a computer,” he says. “Just doing the GRiZ live band, I’ve found that there is this visceral energy that comes in when you invite so many people to breathe life into the music in that way. And when you get people who are so enthusiastic and talented, these magical moments start happening.

So I’m excited to be in the presence of these people creating magic onstage. It comes down to being there, smelling the air of it and feeling the sound hit your skin, and we cannot wait to share that feeling of communion with the Bonnaroo family. It’s such a great honor.”

onnaroo was always a magical dream world I wanted

to visit, but I never had the opportunity to until I was brought on as the designer,” says AC Entertainment’s

Julianna Cvetetic. “My first Bonnaroo was extremely

overwhelming, but I got hooked and can’t imagine missing one.” Since joining the Bonnaroo family in 2017, Cvetetic

has helped shape the festival’s look and feel not only while onsite at The Farm, but also throughout the entire year.

“Bonnaroo approached me in mid-July of 2018 to create the art and aesthetic, and I was very happy to get onboard,” adds Bonnaroo artist Oliver Hibert, who describes his inspiration on the project as “rainbows, the night, people, fun, love, mystery and magic.”

“The fountain itself, came together fairly quickly. Everything I did when working with Bonnaroo was smooth and enjoyable. How often do you get to design a gigantic spewing mushroom?”

Here, Cvetetic reflects on how her team’s dreams become a reality.

How long have you been working on this year’s installations like The Fountain?

We started the branding process onsite at last year’s festival. We walked around and talked about how we could improve and what we could change. After the festival, we researched illustrators who matched the vibe we were going for.

We reached out to Oliver Hibert in mid-July, and the rest is history!

What aspect of the project are you most proud of?

I was really excited when we released the lineup and saw the fans react so positively to the art.

We worked really hard to make the visual identity representative of the Bonnaroo experience, so that felt like a win. Some other highlights were designing the vans for the Ready to Roo tour and getting some love from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

What were some of your inspirations on this project?

The biggest inspiration behind the 2019 identity was the night culture at Bonnaroo. It’s weird. It’s mysterious. It’s magical. Visually, we were inspired by colorful, bold artists from the ‘60s like John Alcorn and Tadanori Yokoo. We felt that the pops of color paired with the floods of black accurately represented the spark in Bonnaroo nightlife. Oliver brought in the idea of the drips and smoke, which added that weird, mysterious touch we were looking for.

The map in the ticket package is really special. There was so much thought and detail that went into that. We thought it really tied together our 2019 theme of “mystery.” I am personally excited to see the fountain design come to life. It reminds me of Rainbow Road from Mario Kart. Our go-to muralist, Bryan Deese, will be painting it.

What set are you most excited to see at Bonnaroo?

The lineup is so stacked this year it’s hard to choose, but I am super excited for Beach House and Gojira.

PRIDE AT BONNAROO

onnaroo’s motto is “radiating positivity” and, this year, that slogan rings even more true, as Bonnaroovians will make history at the festival’s first-ever LGBT+ pride parade.

According to Sophie Lobl, who acts as a talent buyer and campground experiences producer for festival organizers C3 Productions, an official pride parade was a no-brainer for Bonnaroo 2019. “We really like to project inclusiveness,” she explains.

“It’s something we’re really proud of and definitely something we try to keep at the forefront of all our programming.”

It’s true: For many Roo regulars, pride has been a consistent part of the Bonnaroo experience for some time. In addition to LGBT+ festivalgoers feeling free to wear

plenty of rainbow and hold the hand of their beloved (whoever they may be), performers onstage have been adding to the event’s LGBT+ representation for years.

Trans trailblazer Laura Jane Grace has performed with Against Me! at the festival several times, most notably taking the stage at Bonnaroo 2015 following her transition and the release of Against Me!’s groundbreaking, eye-opening Transgender Dysphoria Blues LP. Rock duo Tegan and Sara hit Bonnaroo for the second time in 2017 less than a year after starting their own namesake foundation to “fight for economic justice, health and representation for LGBTQ girls and women.”

And, of course, who could forget

“This is my first-ever festival in America,” the rock legend told the massive audience at the time. “And I heard it’s the best one.”

Even this year, there is a diverse roster of LGBT+ acts performing at The Farm, from Grammy-winning Americana titan Brandi Carlile, to rapper Kevin Abstract of Brockhampton, to Aussie indierocker Courtney Barnett, to singersongwriter SOAK, to producer King Princess. Future-funk maven GRiZ (who came out in 2017) is also honored this year as the host of the highly anticipated SuperJam. Additionally, there are plenty of LGBT+ allies at this year’s Bonnaroo.

Just to name a few, Kacey Musgraves, Walk The Moon and Hozier have all been outspoken in their support for the queer community and, in 2018,

country singer Maren Morris wrote a “Love Letter” to LGBT+ fans in Billboard, explicitly noting how honored she is to have their support.

“The LGBTQ community was so embracing of me and I felt this precious responsibility to be a voice in country music for them, because it’s a genre that historically has not,” she wrote, adding, “However many revolutions we get around the sun, we’re all here to love and be loved.”

In the past, Bonnaroo officials have also spoken out in support of the LGBT+ community. When faced with anti-gay legislation in 2016, the festival stood in defiance of Tennessee’s “Therapist Bill,” by stating that “Bonnaroo will continue to be a force for promoting and embracing openness and acceptance. We have forged a strong bond with the Tenn. community and intend to use our voice to champion equal rights for everyone everywhere.”

So now, considering the festival’s ongoing commitment to LGBT+ visibility in the past, it seems that this year’s official pride parade is just one more place that Bonnaroo

denizens can let their rainbow flags fly. And, with House of Yes bringing their edgy-yet-inclusive artistry all the way from NYC, the parade is sure to be a must-attend event.

“When we were having conversations about House of Yes coming back this year, they kind of joked, ‘Well, you know, we run a huge pride parade in New York. We would love to do at Bonnaroo,’” Lobl recalls. “I was like, ‘Well, actually, that’s a great idea!’ We pushed it through all the systems and now it’s finally happening. We’re really excited.”

Bonnaroo’s first-ever LGBT+ pride parade is set to take place from 4:30 pm to 6 pm on Saturday, June 15. It will kick off at Plaza 3 and roam through the campgrounds with lots of fanfare. Be sure to get

there early and wear comfortable marching shoes—the parade is set to include surprise appearances by Bonnaroo performers, House of Yes acrobats, art cars, drag queens, a brass band and, best of all, YOU! (For even more fun, be sure to check out the “Dirty Circus” party at House of Yes & Little Cinema on Wednesday, June 12, and Thursday, June 13, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.)

“House of Yes is beyond thrilled to be producing the first ever Bonnaroo Pride Parade, bringing together revelers of every expression into a radical roaming dance party in celebration of our diversity, sexuality and humanity,” House of Yes officials said earlier this year. “Together, we honor the leaders that brought us to where 59

we are today, and unite to inspire the revolutionaries that will guide our future.”

“I just hope that it allows everyone to feel included, regardless of their background and history,” Lobl concludes. “It’s a really great coming together at the festival. I hope everyone is very accepting of it and participates. It’ll be a really fun way to kick off the weekend.”

Indeed, whether you’re a member of the LGBT+ community, an ally, a pride parade expert or a complete rookie, Bonnaroo’s pride parade will radiate positivity everywhere it goes.

“To be in a privileged situation where we produce and run these 60

live events that so many people enjoy coming to, it’s just necessary and a priority that we should be pushing that message [of inclusion],” Lobl adds. “As one of the biggest festivals in the world, we try so hard to make everyone feel safe and comfortable. With Bonnaroo, you’re here for the weekend, and in the political climate nowadays, it’s even more important to make sure that everyone knows that this is a place you can come and have fun, feel safe, be who you want to be and have a great time. That’s why the artists that come to Bonnaroo love performing here. They know that Bonnaroo has that message and it’s a unique, magical place.”

INTRODUCING THE SANCTUARY OF SELF LOVE

“

W

e are all people coexisting. Or we should be,” Hayley Williams of Paramore told the crowd gathered at the What Stage in 2018.

“I want you to take one moment to be present enough to realize that you are surrounded by people that you may never see again but, for some reason, we all came here today. So no matter what you’re going through—I know this doesn’t make it go away—for one second, just be present, enjoy music and let’s just fucking dance to this song.”

With that spirit in mind, Williams returns to Bonnaroo in 2019 with a clear-cut mission. Last year may have been her first full-show appearance on The Farm (following a 2016 sit in with CHVRCHES) but, this time, she is expanding her role at the festival, combining her own experiences and interests to curate a “Sanctuary of Self Love” at Plaza 2.

“As we learn more about our mental health, we realize that it has a lot to do with how we treat ourselves as a whole being,” reads the space’s official description. “Be it a spa day,

an art project or a new hairdo… make some time for yourself here at the Sanctuary of Self Love!”

C3’s Sophie Lobl, who worked with Williams and company to create the Sanctuary, is quick to note that the Paramore singer was very handson for this project, enlisting her own brand, Good Dye Young, as well as several other eco-friendly and social justice-oriented partners. Williams is based nearby in Nashville and, as she and her team took in the sights and sounds of the campground plazas in 2018, she was inspired to create her own little slice of Bonnaroo.

“Hayley is really passionate about mental wellness as well as her hair brand, Good Dye Young,” Lobl says.

“She came to us and said that she would like to do something with that on the campgrounds, and we didn’t have that last year. We had individual self-care options throughout the campgrounds, but to have one central location where you can experience that mind and body wellness, and the beauty aspect, is exciting to us. We have been working with her for about a year, and we’re 62

excited for what they have in that area.”

Indeed, the Sanctuary of Self Love’s offerings are vast. From “cruelty-free and vegan-hair hairstyling, blowouts and temporary color” by the team at Good Dye Young to daily yoga classes and meditations to DJ dance parties by the Nashville Vinyl Club, there’s something for everyone, no matter what their definition of self love may be.

Even certain Bonnaroo mainstays are being incorporated into the Sanctuary of Self Love, like the Seventh “First Annual” Roo Run, which gives more athletically inclined fans the chance to jog through the campgrounds in style.

If you prefer to go the glam route, then beauty stations will be set up at the Sanctuary all weekend long for “flower crowns, hair braiding, waterless manicures, temporary tattoos and body painting.” And, despite some programming that is specifically geared toward femaleidentifying Bonnaroovians (like the nearby SheROO campground) Lobl assures that the Sanctuary is open to anyone and everyone who needs a little self care.

“All are welcome. Especially with the Good Dye Young people we will have out there,” she says. “All ages, genders… Whoever wants to come out there.”

For the spiritually and academically inclined, there will be massages, alternative therapy, health sessions and reiki sessions with Ramona Reid of Holistic Revolution and a panel about mental health, substance abuse and suicide prevention presented by Psych Hub. Community is also a key idea that bolsters the Sancuary of Self Love; if you’re looking for a forum to discuss more

in the sun, the Sanctuary of Self Love is a one stop shop for anyone who’s looking for an extra mental boost.

One lucky camper will even win a makeover from Good Dye Young co-founder/beauty guru Brian O’Connor and meet Williams herself.

So keep your eyes peeled for Williams at the Sanctuary of Self Love. Who knows what can happen? After all, at Bonnaroo,

Whether its learning about the benefits of CBD, taking a Smudge Stick Workshop or simply affording yourself the pleasure of some biodegradable glitter so you can sparkle

there are always surprises in store.

“If you are camping there for four days, to have that opportunity to glam yourself up, enjoy the festival experience and do whatever you like with your hair, then why not? It has always been a feature at Bonnaroo in some capacity or another,” Lobl affirms. “This year, we are really taking it up a notch. Good Dye Young is the best brand out there, so to have them onsite with professional stylists is exciting for us.”

WHERE IN THE WOODS

I

f you’ve been to Bonnaroo before, then, odds are, you have spent at least one late night (or very early morning) at Kalliope. The fire-spitting, beatthumping stage has been a fixture at Bonnaroo for quite a few years, casting an endless amount of hyped-up energy across Centeroo until sunrise.

But what if you’re looking for a more mellow way to end your evening? Or what if you’re itching for a DJ set in the middle of the day? According to Sophie Lobl, who acts as a talent buyer and campground experiences producer for festival partner C3 Productions, that’s exactly why team Bonnaroo created Where in the Woods, a new experience located on the eastern edge of the campgrounds, near VIP and southeast of Plaza 2.

“We have Kalliope within Bonnaroo, which is pretty loud and pretty intense,” Lobl explains. “And the way

that Kalliope does their production, is just incredible. I love it. But at Bonnaroo, we always want to find a balance, and Where in the Woods balances out the two. It will have DJs like Kalliope does, but it’s more house vibes and live music, as opposed to the raging that happens in Centeroo.”

Historically, the space that now houses Where in the Woods was reserved for Bonnaroo’s “Roll like a Rockstar” program. After some shuffling of the Bonnaroo site during the off-season, organizers decided to make this beautiful, wooded area publically available to all fans for the very first time. The idea was to create a different kind of late-night scene: a yin to Kalliope’s yang.

“We had this awesome space, which is a beautiful treed area, fully wooded with platforms. It’s within the campgrounds, but it’s still in its own zone,” Lobl recalls. “When we were talking about curating spaces within the campgrounds, we asked,

‘What’s missing?’ Where in the Woods is going to be a really fun area. There will be a lot of interactive art and a bunch of games. And we’re going to have music throughout the daytime until the night. We are also going to have some big-name DJs playing the festival do some special sets. It’s going to be this big beautiful world, with hammocks to relax and a dance floor to groove on. Hopefully,

everyone will love it as much as we do, enjoy some good vibes and listen to some great music.”

Echoing Lobl’s sentiment, a description of Where in the Woods promises “surprise sets late into the night with an otherworldly dance floor perfect for releasing your inner forest animal... Drop by any time to partake in immersive artistic experiences, giant games,

chill hangouts, crazy parties and ‘only at Bonnaroo’ surprises.’”

Music at Where in the Woods will begin at noon every day, and each day will be dedicated to a range of genres. “Throwback Thursday” will showcase classic R&B, funk, soul, reggae, disco and hip-hop, followed by a seven-hour block of classic house music between 5 pm and midnight, as well as a late-night offering by tropical-bass DJ duo Love Taps. “Future Friday” will take things to the next level with plenty of future bass, glitch, trap, downtempo and disco house, rounded out by a 1 am set by 66

Brooklyn based multi-hyphenate Mick. Saturday will be all about “Beach Vibes” at Where in the Woods, with dancehall, reggaeton, moombahton, afrobeat and house bangers, not to mention a 12:30 am party hosted by E-V, who will bring his own brand of hip-hop/dance fusion to the table. Finally, Bonnaroovians can enjoy some “R&R” on Sunday, with over eight full hours of tropical and deep house, before Justin Nyce closes out the Where in the Woods stage this year.

In addition to the great music just mentioned, the trees at Where in the Woods will provide some

much needed shade to weatherweary Bonnaroovians. As many festivalgoers are well aware, the Tennessee sunshine is beautiful but can be pretty brutal; finding a nice place to cool off and vibe out is a necessity, and Where in the Woods is primed to be the best chill zone on The farm. (Here’s a pro tip: On your way in or out of Where in the Woods, check out Hayley Williams’ Sanctuary of Self Love in nearby Plaza 2 for some free glitter, facepaint and more so you can stay glam all day!)

But, even if you’re camping nearby, there is no need to worry.

While everyone at Bonnaroo loves a good party, Lobl was sure to mention that Where in the Woods

will not disturb anyone catching some much needed Z’s at an adjacent campsite. “It’s super accessible but it’s also completely fenced in so it’s not going to bother anyone camping or anything like that,” she explains with a laugh.

“We don’t want to panic anyone with another Kalliope in the campgrounds.”

Essentially, Lobl says, Where in the Woods—like many Bonnaroo’s offerings—is an escape from reality.

Day or night, you can head there to soak up great art and great music.

In her words, it’s a prime location for Roovians to “party late, have a cocktail and have a great time.”

The Clean Vibes Trading Post is the nonprofit arm of Clean Vibes (cleanvibes.com), a company dedicated to the responsible waste and recycling management of outdoor festivals and events. Clean Vibes has been a part of all of the previous Bonnaroo festivals, handling the trash and recycling management for each event. Over the past 17 years, Clean Vibes has diverted more than 7.5 million pounds of recyclable and compostable material produced at the festival from the landfill. The Grove

Located at Plaza 7, in the midst of 700+ acres of farmland lies an oasis; a refuge from the whirlwind that is Bonnaroo... The Grove! There will be times when The Grove explodes with radiant energy, and at other times, it’s a place for solitude and relaxation... You’ll just have to stop by and find out. For 2019, Fort Houston, an experiential art fabrication lab and makerspace in Nashville, is helping curate Plaza 7 with local artists and makers.

Typically, you would miss pieces like these on a quick trip to Nashville if you didn’t know the right spots to hit, but now you can find these enchanted works, featuring sculptures, lights and more, down on The Farm—in The Grove and the barn at The Ville.

Food Truck Oasis

Gourmet food trucks have been earning rave reviews, wide followings and a place at Bonnaroo.

At our Food Truck Oasis, you’ll find

Kidsville

Parades

What’s better than a parade? Just about nothing. Marching to the beat of our own drums, getting dressed up in something fancy or just high steppin’ and spinning an umbrella as you second line through Centeroo is a good ol’ time and something we’ve always done at Bonnaroo. Every parade is a bit different, of course, but they usually include a great brass band and sometimes lead you to a pot of gold.

Splash-a-Roo is your saving grace during peak daytime hours when the heat waves are beaming down.

Take a slippery ride using loony pool floats on the 35-foot tropical slide or play it safe on the practice slides and in the kiddie pools. Want to take it up a notch? Pay a small fee for your screams on the 40-foot Big Ass Water Slide. For more fun in the sun, get your bump-set-spike on at the sanded pick-up volleyball court.

Planet Roo

Planet Roo is Bonnaroo’s space for unwinding, learning, creating social change and having fun while doing it. It’s one of Bonnaroo’s leading interactive spaces as well as the festival’s socially conscious center.

It’s a place where festivalgoers not only learn about pressing issues— they also get tools and resources to take action and effect change beyond the festival. Bonnaroo is in a unique position to provide

festivalgoers with a space to become involved and amplify their voices. By doing so, Planet Roo serves to emphasize to both patrons and the greater public that the festival is aware of the issues of our times, is dedicated to remaining relevant and is committed to empowering our patrons to make a difference in ways that matter to them. Refill Revolution: Beer Cups + Water Bottles

2019 will mark the sixth year of Bonnaroo’s remarkably successful partnership with Steelys Drinkware and the Plastic Pollution Coalition for the innovative “Refill Revolution.”

Patrons can pre-buy a quality stainless-steel beer cup with their ticket purchase or onsite at any beverage stand with draft beer.

Cups are $15 each and includes the durable cup (with to-go carrying strap) filled with a cold beer, plus an additional $1 discount off all subsequent refills made with the cup at beer stands throughout the remainder of the festival. Thus far, the efforts made by Bonnaroo and Steelys have led to diversion of over

2 million single-use water bottles and over 150,000 single-use beer cups.

Hip-Hop Dance Classes

Come and shake your booty at the How Stage each morning. Perfect your dance moves for the day and share some dancing joy with other Bonnaroovians!

Seventh First-Annual Roo Run Presented by ASICS What: A 5K race across the

festival grounds

Where: The Roo Run begins promptly

at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Plaza 2 (located in the northeastern campgrounds). Look for the Barn by the edge of the woods!

For the seventh year in a row, we invite you to race around The Farm!

In partnership with ASICS, get ready to be #winthelongrun and run across the Bonnaroo campgrounds, over the hills and through the woods.

Sign up for the 5K race by registering online and paying through our payment link. All participants must sign up online once payment is completed, so make sure you register before the festival kicks off. Entrance fee is $25, with all proceeds reinvested back into the community through the Bonnaroo

Works Fund. If you’re a slacker and want to wait until you get to the Farm, we will be accepting new registrations on Friday, June 14 ONLY, at the Plaza 2 Roo Run Bib Pick Up tent from 10 a.m-2 p.m. But we can’t promise you a spot in this amazing race as it may sell out!

The Roo Run course twists across the Bonnaroo campgrounds, over hills and through the woods abutting the festival grounds. Make sure you dress for the occasion.

Headbands, high socks, and fairy wings and costumes of all kinds are encouraged. Athletic shoes are required. Spectators can kick it however they like. From flip-flops to aquasocks, wear whatever you need to rise and shine to a new day on The Farm. We’ll be handing out prizes to fast runners, slow walkers and the funkiest-dressed earlyrising Bonnaroovians in sight. Oh, and heads-up: The first three winners and best dressed win an ASICS prize pack.

When you get to The Farm: After registering online, make sure you pick up your Roo Run race bib and shirt on festival Friday, June 14 between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (be sure to customize your bib too!) at the Roo Run tent located at Plaza 2. To make your participation official, show us 77

proof of registration (printed, or on your phone) and your matching ID (must be 18 or older). All runners must complete a waiver whether you purchase online, or in person.

On Saturday morning, race day, arrive at the starting line 15-30 minutes before the 9 a.m. start time. We will begin at 9 a.m. promptly, so leave enough time to get over to the starting line! And make sure you’re a well-oiled machine when you toe the line: Drink plenty of water and eat healthy before the race begins.

There will be water stations along the route, but it’s always good to 78

come prepared with your own reusable water bottle. Ultramarathoner Charlie Engle will be our 2019 Grand Marshall, so get there early for some extra tips from a true runner professional! From a guy that ran nearly 5,000 miles across the Sahara, and is planning a run from the Dead Sea to Mt. Everest later this year, you can rest assured that this “Running Man” will lead you all across the finish in true Roo style!

We will not be signing up any new runners or handing out any bibs on the morning of the Roo Run, so please pick yours up at check-in on Festival Friday!

Bayou Libre is an interactive experience powered by the New Orleans entertainment collective FREEWATER. Inspired by the landscape and the spirits of the swamp, Bayou Libre will be a place where you can come relax in the shade during the day and experience parties late into the night. FREEWATER will bring musical acts as well as some special friends from New Orleans —so expect some secret performances from names you’re likely to recognize from the lineup.

SheROO is a camping experience for an inclusive community of Womxn and non-binary identified Bonnaroovians, who would like to live alongside one another on The Farm. Hosted by MOTHERSHIP, we will gather daily to discuss, empower, meditate and create together in a fun and feminist atmosphere. Daytime panels will cover art, music and more. In short, expect gal-pal bonding by day and gal-pal boogying by night.

Coming alone? No problem! The Farm is full of friends you simply haven’t met yet, and we want to make solo Roo’ing as easy—and fun—as possible. Ticket holders can get to know solo Roo’ers from near and far, cool down in a communal hangout space and exchange band recommendations! Sign up for camp Solo Roo by May 31 to camp in this community camp.

The Tower

Andi Watson, longtime lighting designer for Bonnaroo veterans Radiohead, has created this iconic art piece for Bonnaroo. This rotating mirrored ball reacts to its environment, both reflecting and illuminating its surroundings.

The Fountain

The Bonnaroo Fountain is one of the festival’s most iconic structures.

Each year since it was built in 2003, we have selected an artist or group of artists to redesign and repaint the structure, creating a brand new vision and experience for Bonnaroovians. Located in the heart of Centeroo, The Fountain serves as both a way to cool off from the hot Tennessee sun and as a great meeting point. And once the sun sets, black lights transform it into a whole new wonder! This year, the Fountain was designed by Oliver Hibert.

Kalliope

Kalliope is your go-to spot for dance parties that go ALL NIGHT LONG with fire, surprises and legendary sunrise sets.

Tonalism by dublab—The Grove

Taking place in The Grove (Plaza 7), Tonalism is an all-night ambient gathering partly inspired by the happenings of the '50s and '60s.

Visitors are encouraged to bring pillows, cushions, or blankets to lay down and listen. The events features live performances and DJ sets in an environment transformed by projections, installations and 82

various multimedia elements. The night flows seamlessly with quiet and harmonious sounds providing a transformative and contemplative experience.

The Agave Way by Altos Tequila

Inspired by the vibrant and colorful street mercados of Jalisco, Altos Tequila invites you to The Agave Way in the heart of Centeroo. Come enjoy delicious cocktails, fun activities, and good vibes with new and old festival friends at this oneof-a-kind Mexican oasis. We can’t wait to see you there!

The Oasis at BACARDÍ Bay

BACARDÍ is kicking off Bonnaroo weekend with the BACARDÍ Party Camper, where we’re mixing cocktails on the campgrounds if you’re over 21. Beat the heat and head to BACARDÍ Bay’s Oasis, where we’re serving up even more delicious BACARDÍ drinks, along with shade, seating, a make-your-own friendship bracelet trading post, and free BACARDÍ swag for you and your friends.
