DEATH / SWITCH is a signature series for INSIGHT by professional skateboarder Daniel SHIMIZU. The result is a pleasing combination of both original art and meticulous reproductions of Daniel’s most prized clothing, acquired here and there over the years on his extensive world travels. Daniel has collaborated closely with the Insight Design Team to ensure each garment fits, looks and feels exactly the way those time-tested favourites should, from inception, as illustrated in Daniel’s sketches, to production, as may be witnessed when watching Daniel SHRED in the very same garments (see www.insight51.com for related skate clips). In addition to his impeccable taste in clothing, Daniel, being an accomplished photo-documentarian, has provided access to his extensive personal archive of photographic vignettes of his life and travels, allowing us to publish in this journal* a poetic selection of images that hopefully encompasses the breadth of experience his SKATE-GYPSY existence allows him. You, the reader, would be wise to archive this journal as a rare insight (Ed - excuse the pun) into the remarkable and transient solidarity of a man’s life conceived and inspired through riding a skateboard.
