PROJECT BACKGROUND

GICO HABITAT

The Covid-19 pandemic surprised the world and drastically altered people’s lives and livelihoods all over the world. This shift prompted a massive rethinking of many methods and processes used in daily life, including the design and functionality of spaces.

Therefore, the brief instructed me to create a residence for any creative professional of my choosing. The owner’s family and work requirements were to be taken into consideration in the design. My pick for the job—an architect and art collector—had a wife and three children and needed an office and gallery space to conduct events while working within the pandemic’s restrictions. Additionally, privacy and a clear division between the building’s business and family zones were crucial.

THE SITE.

The location, size and shape of the site was also left to the choice of students. I selected an open piece of land from a satelite image and designed using the specific climatic conditions of the location in order to learn and apply various environmental design principles.

THE CONCEPT. WORK. HOME.

My 3-step concept involved dividing the main form to accommodate the required functions, establishing a transition zone between the two forms using a courtyard, and offsetting the two forms along thieir length

BANK OF THE FUTURE

The banking industry has experience a lot of growth and innovation in the design of it’s buildings, and in it’s methods and processes. A look into the future of the bank, as a building, suggests that a lot of bank buildings would become more social and public spaces that foster customer relationship and community development, as many core banking actities do not have to be caried out within these buildings resuting to more sociable and less imposing space.

Wuth respect to this, I was tasked to design a regional bank headquaters for GTCO with spaces that foster these relationships and still accommodate secure banking activities.

The bank building contains banking halls, a preschool, a community center, a library and other spaces to meet the more organizational needs of the staff of the bank.

Sketching is a very important skill for an architect to posses. It is a useful skill for problem solving and a very fast way easily give lif to the formative strands of the design of anything from buildings to everyday household products.

This is a compilation of a few of many hand made sketches and drawings that I have producwwed over the course of my undergraduate education in a bid to eithr solve basic design problems, improve my skill, or flex my imaginative and creative muscles.
