Wednesday 11th September
The boys have certainly settled back quickly into the rhythm and routine of school life and it is great to see them all enjoying time with their friends and teachers both in the classroom and on the playground. What is most pleasing is just how welcoming our boys have been to the many new children who have joined us this term and supporting them as they ease into their new surroundings for most, it already feels like they’ve always been here.
This week, Mr Minta shared information about the extracurricular activity programme and the boys have been signing up for their activities for this term via our new system, SOCS. This system will allow us to monitor more easily which activities boys are attending. A list of all of the activities on offer this half term can be found linked here
It was great to see so many of you at this week’s Parent Information evenings. I entirely understand how difficult it can be to make arrangements to attend such events, but that sharing of key information at the start of the year is so important in ensuring that we are able to work together to make this year a most successful one for your son. Information shared at that event, alongside further summaries of ways you can help your son and information about the curriculum will be sent out soon.
At those events, I shared with you some information about the Wellbeing Hub. As you will know, a key priority at Bolton School is that we continue to foster an environment that supports pupils’ mental health and wellbeing. To help to achieve this, the Parents’ Associations have invested in The Wellbeing Hub, a resource developed by experts in child and adolescent mental health and wellbeing, and, as a result, we are pleased to offer free access to this invaluable resource to all parents/guardians and carers.
Our agreement with The Wellbeing Hub also supports our entire school community, providing staff with a 10-part course designed to further assist your child within the school environment. Access The Wellbeing Hub by clicking this registration link –https://club.teentips.co.uk/register/parents/?ca=8f29a7f7e39766783688f12f9ad47ac1
During registration, you'll be prompted to set a password and will receive a welcome email with full details. For any specific queries about access, please contact the team at info@teentips.co.uk
I am very excited to be leading Park Road during what I know will be a busy, productive and exciting year ahead and look forward to seeing you all at the very many upcoming events.

Achievements
Over the summer, Sol, in Year 5, completed his 1600m/1 mile swim badge. He was only meant to complete 800m but he just kept going on and achieved the one mile badge! Well done, Sol !
Our resident skier, Jasper, who is now in Year 6, finished the indoor summer season with some great results in individual races: Welsh Championships: 3rd and British Championships: 3rd. He also achieved his ambitious goal of winning the overall GBR Series, despite only being able to compete in 4 out of 5 of the races in the series (due to a pre-planned training block in Austria!) He was awarded the GBR Series overall trophy, along with the Rossignol Cup, for this achievement. He aims to win the same series again next summer, so that he can have his name on the Rossignol Cup for two consecutive years. Fantastic achievements well done, Jasper !

Congratulations too to our musicians on their recent Music Teachers’ Board Piano examination results:Sujay Thiruvallar (Year 5), Grade 2, Merit and Jude Thomas (Year 5), Grade 2, Merit and Leo Morris, (Year 6), Grade 2, Pass. Great results, boys, well done !
Representing School
For those of you who are new to Park Road, we have many teams, such as football, cricket, hockey, cross country, athletics, water polo, swimming and chess, for which your son may be selected. If selected to represent School in a sporting event or chess competition, we will endeavour to give your son and you as much notice as possible about the fixture.
To enhance the possibility of selection, boys are encouraged to attend clubs held during lunch hours and after school on a regular basis. If your son misses lessons due to a school fixture, it is his responsibility to find out what work has been missed and to catch up accordingly. Please check the Calendar section of our weekly Newsletter for the most up-to-date list of events.
Parking around School
We wish to pass on the following reminders, drawing particular attention to the need to be courteous and understanding towards the needs of our neighbours. We continue to receive regular complaints from residents about the parking of parental cars in the locality. Please show due consideration and courtesy to our neighbours and park legally and sensibly.
Parents are reminded that they should not use the Staff Car Parks in areas around School nor should they park behind or block in any staff vehicles at any point during the school day. Please do not park on West Street to either drop off or collect your son. Please do not drop off or park opposite Park Road on the zebra crossing or double yellow lines we have frequent visits from traffic wardens at peak times and fines can be issued for parking contraventions. Please park further down the road and ensure that your son crosses the road with our lollipop man, Barry, and nowhere else.
LAMDA After School Drama Lessons
Congratulations to all of the boys who successfully passed their LAMDA examinations in Performance Acting last term : If your son is interested in after school drama lessons, there are still a few places available to join Mrs Buchanan for the term ahead, please click here for further details of the course and cost. Please return the completed form to Mrs Buchanan directly if you would like a place for your son.
SOCS—Extracurricular Activities
To help boys choose and track extracurricular activities as part of our new Park Road Personal Explorers Passport (more information on this will be in the next newsletter), we are starting to use an online system called SOCS, which you may be aware of from sports. Boys have their own login and most of them have logged in in school. Your son’s username is the school email address with just .org and his password is your usual postcode password. The link to the socs portal is https:// www.socscms.com/login/32/pupil where boys can see which clubs are on, for which year groups and on which days. When registers have been confirmed it will also give them a timetable for their week. The expectation is that boys choose at least one ECA a term and this contributes towards their Personal Explorer Award. Please look through this with your son and encourage him to try some new things and contact the office if you have any queries about joining some of the after school clubs. JM
