Bolton School Primary Division Junior Boys’ School Wednesday 29th November
Autumn Term, 2023 — WEEK A
From Mrs. Faulkner
COMPULSORY SCHOOL EVENT THIS TERM: Carol Service, Tuesday 19th December, 7pm
Wednesday 29th November Swim Development, 4-5pm Cubs, 6.30pm
During assemblies last week, I spoke to the boys about communication, and, in particular, about talking to others about how they are feeling. So, when I was relaxing in front of the TV the other night, I was most interested to see an advert aimed at supporting parents to encourage and help children to talk about their feelings. According to a recent NHS survey, mental health has declined in almost 40% of school children. There are a number of factors behind this statistic; in part, the pace of modern life, the impact of increased access to technology and changes in family circumstances are just some of the contributory factors. Key to supporting our children in managing this, is to encourage them to talk about what’s on their minds. The ‘Britain Get Talking’ campaign, organised by ITV in conjunction with Mind and Young Minds, is designed to help ease some of that stress and reduce anxiety by encouraging us to talk about what’s on our minds. There are some helpful tips and resources which can be easily accessed via the link below: Britain Get Talking | Home (itv.com) This evening, school will be hosting a Zoom presentation by Rachael Richards, Engagement Lead for Kooth, an online, confidential space where young people, aged 10 and upwards, can share experiences and gain support from qualified professionals. The presentation will explain more about what Kooth is and what it offers to young people. It will start at 7pm and can be accessed via the Zoom link below. The presentation will be recorded for those who are unable to attend. To join the Zoom meeting: https://kooth.zoom.us/j/85887360056?pwd=WXbittUpdJes4SEJgBafgq1mUvu1bM.1,

Meeting ID: 858 8736 0056; Passcode: ?Ywx1$5b As this is an area of particular interest to me, I have also been reading a most interesting book which some parents may find useful—it is less academic than the author’s previous work, Toxic Childhood, and, so far, seems full of relatively easy to implement, useful advice to support families. I’m happy to pass my copy along just as soon as I’ve finished reading it.
