seafood processing industry
food safety and hygiene: inseparable The seafood processing industry includes a broad scale of companies and suppliers worldwide. The processing of seafood usually takes place partly automatically and partly via a manual production process, in which hygiene, quality and efficiency are paramount. Food safety and hygiene form an inseparable two-unity, especially in areas where raw seafood is processed and packed. During the processing, the floor forms the basis for optimal hygiene. Certainly in the seafood processing industry, hygiene must be viewed in relation to food safety. During the processing of seafood, there is always a risk of contamination with various bacteria. Floors have specific functions in each phase of the process. On the arrival of the seafood, during cleaning, cutting and filleting, freezing, packing and preparing for transport. For each function and area, Bolidt provides a specific floor finish; seamless, strong and slip resistant. Easy to clean, durable and with an optimal mechanical resistance. Bolidt provides innovative and reliable floor systems for all areas in the seafood processing industry.

quality as basis
The basis of all Bolidt systems consists of a thermosetting polymer-based synthetic material. This material with special characteristics is developed by Bolidt for floor and wall finishing. Depending on the specific application, area and surroundings, Bolidt adjusts the composition. The Bolidt synthetic floor systems have a number of important features.
From antimicrobial to anti-slip Because Bolidt floor systems are applied seamlessly and free of pores, bacteria do not get the chance to germinate. This protection is guarenteed due to excellent scratch resistancy. In addition, the impermeability prevents that hazardous substances can enter the layer beneath and thus interrupt the continuous production process. The finishes also fit seamlessly on the floor. Coved skirtings, corners and drains seamlessly fit into the floor surface, walls and columns. Durable anti-slip finishes guarantee safety in both wet and dry conditions. Maintenance is straightforward and cleaning is easy. Key basic features. But there is more.
Flexibility guaranteed Flexibility is crucial for seafood processing companies. Expansions, innovations and alterations are very much the order of the day. Adaptations of the areas are unavoidable. Floors must be easy to repair and simple to extend. Bolidt offers a maintenance contract which allows for these type of changes. The fast drying time ensures that the production process is only interrupted as short as possible. This enables changes to be made and reduces the life cycle costs. Optimal hygiene Bolidt floor systems are perfect for large surfaces, but also for small details. Bolidt offers the most varied finishes. There are seamless connections to walls, facades, columns, gutters, doorsteps and more. The coved skirting provides the option to avoid angles of (less than) 90°. Together with the seamless and pore-free character, these type of finishes provide optimal hygiene. Because floors in the seafood
processing industry often face hygienic challenges, and thus being included in the HACCP protocols, the high-quality Bolidt floor systems contribute to meet HACCP requirements and associated certification such as BRC, GLOBAL G.A.P. and IFS Food. Indispensable for the seafood processing industry. Durable Bolidt does not supply floors, but floor systems. These systems are tailored to the specific areas within the seafood processing industry and their specific use. A long service life is guaranteed.
Minimal maintenance, easy to clean Bolidt floors need just minimal maintenance. That does not only make a difference in the costs, but also ensures that the continuous production process rarely needs to be stopped for maintenance tasks. Due to the optimal structure of the floor surface and the absence of protective films or layers on our floor systems, maintenance and cleaning is very easy.
functional and attractive When developing the synthetic floor systems, we pay close attention to the functional requirements. Floors in the modern-day seafood processing industry must, of course, be strong, non-slip, durable, hygienic and easy to clean and maintain. But appearance can also be important. Bolidt offers a lot of choices as far as this is concerned. Do more with colours The use of colour in floors can provide surprising, playful and, at the same time, functional effects. Colours can be linked to the specific functions of areas. That is not only attractive but it can also simplify mutual communication. For example, the application of colour can mark areas which are safe or perhaps unsafe to be. Functional under all conditions In each phase of the production process, floors can have specific functions. Unloading, storage, cleaning, filleting, cutting, freezing, packing, expedition; Bolidt has seamless, strong and non-slip floor finishes available for each area.
Resistant to ....everything The Bolidt synthetic floor systems are impermeable, pore-free and resistant to chemicals and mechanical loading.
Therefore, they are optimally resistant to all materials and substances used in the production processes of seafood. Forklift trucks can be driven and pallets can be shoved on the floors without problems in the shipping and packaging areas. Bolidt always offers the right floor solution. Minimal maintenance The Bolidt floor systems are known for their durability. Due to the optimal structure of the floor surface and the absence of protective films or layers on Bolidt floor systems, maintenance and cleaning is very easy.
HACCP and other regulations Because floors in the seafood processing industry often present hygienic challenges and are therefore included in the HACCP, Bolidt’s high-quality flooring systems contribute to meet HACCP requirements and associated certification such as BRC, GLOBAL G.A.P. and IFS Food.
low-maintenance and durable To evaluate an investment in floor systems for the seafood processing industry properly, it is important to look beyond the initial investment. A lower initial investment is worth less if high costs have to be incurred quickly for professional maintenance and costly repairs. The service life should also be considered. Looking far ahead When it comes to maintenance and maintenance costs of synthetic floor
systems, Bolidt dares to look far ahead. Bolidt takes that (financial) responsibility which fits the extremely long service life of the floor and wall systems which Bolidt supplies. If you want certainty beforehand concerning your total investment, choose a maintenance contract. Bolidt then carries out yearly inspections without you having to worry about your floor systems. Bolidt has various models which offer insight into the expected maintenance costs.
Investing in the future Bolidt selects all materials used for the floor systems carefully and pays a lot of attention to the use, consumption and re-use of reproduced materials. The materials are free of chemical solvents and are completely used when they are applied. Even after their long service life, the Bolidt products are suitable for re-use. Bolidt takes its responsibility and continues to invest in sustainable products and processes. In this way we invest in the generations after us. Responsible products Since its establishment in 1964, Bolidt has made optimal use of natural, non-rare raw materials. The principle is to completely guarantee the functionality of the floor systems. With regard to material usage, Bolidt meets the general emission criteria; the products do not contain solvents and there are no annoying smells during application. This prevents problems with the environment and labour inspections, and possible resulting stagnation.
Furthermore, all Bolidt floor systems are free of PVC and plasticisers. In addition to product development, Bolidt is also innovative and trendsetting in making the application of its synthetic systems with its own people faster, more efficient and more durable. Bolidt operates according to the LEAN principle: a management philosophy aimed at eliminating waste and items without added value. An ongoing process which can be applied in all parts of the company.
Bolidtop 700 ®
Floors, but also walls, corners and niches, are most critically inspected in the seafood processing industry. Floors need to be not cracked, non-slipping, pore-free and resistant to mechanical loading. Bolidtop® 700 is therefore the clear choice for this industry. Suited for heavy mechanical loading Bolidtop® 700 is a 5 mm thick, mechanically compounded and seamless synthetic floor finish based on lowviscosity two component synthetic resins which are low-odour. The floor system features a high pressure and impact resistance, making it extremely suitable for heavy fork lift truck traffic and pallet transport. Bolidtop® 700 is furthermore scratch resistant and durable.
Resistant to chemicals Bolidtop® 700 resists most common chemicals and is applied as a fluid, according to an own developed method. Bolidtop® 700 is available in a large number of terrazzo colours.
for each area a specific application Hallways Hallways are the traffic arteries in food processing companies. Daily, they lead tons of seafood from one area to the other. Flat and seamless surfaces are the most important characteristics for floors in these areas. Because of traffic between areas and the extra contamination that this entails, it is important that the floor is easy to clean. Passage to the bordering areas, without thresholds, and lowmaintenance features provide optimal accessibility.
Processing areas The seafood processing industry includes a number of specific areas which differ in function from the food processing industry. For example, the seafood arrives in a wet area to be sorted and cleaned. Then, the seafood is cleaned further, inside and out, in an other area. Thereafter, the seafood can be filleted and processed to the correct size and often ends up in a cold, wet or freezing area. In the packing and expedition departments, the seafood is packed and
prepared for transport. In both dry and wet conditions, the floor must be safe. A perfect non-slip function is crucial. Further, processing areas place high demands on the mechanical and chemical resistance of floor systems. Loading and unloading areas Loading and unloading platforms are subjected to a lot of wear and tear. Trucks are loaded and unloaded with fork lift trucks and hand pallet trucks. This causes an intensive loading and abrasive wear of the floor surface. Because the loading and unloading takes place (partly) outside, the floors must provide sufficient grip, also in wet conditions. A durable and slip resistant wearing layer makes this possible. Bolidt has years of experience with wearing layers on bridges and ship decks. This knowledge has been applied in the development of durable floor systems for industrial applications.
Cold store and deep-freeze areas Companies in the seafood processing industry have cold stores and processing areas. Besides this, deep freezing also takes place. This requires temperature resistant floors. A dust-binding sealing of the concrete floor is very effective and makes cleaning easier. The floor needs to be resistant to intensive traffic with fork lift trucks and must still meet the highest hygienic criteria. This is achieved with an impermeable floor which is finished with coved skirting, rounded thresholds and/or rounded corners. Offices There are other criteria for offices than for the processing areas. Less wear resistance is required, but this is not entirely unimportant. Design and atmosphere play a main role here. Office areas must be quiet and orderly, with a pleasant ambiance. Because chairs are moved a lot, scratch resistance is important. Thanks to their good cleanability, the Bolidt floor systems in offices can be combined excellently with those in the production and storage area.
Toilets, changing and shower areas In these areas, hygiene is of the utmost importance. The floor must be easy to (keep) clean. Right angles or sharp corners which can collect dirt must be avoided as much as possible. A rounded and seamless transition between the floor and wall finishing can prevent this. Bolidt offers various finishes such as in-situ produced coved skirting. An anti-fungal wall coating which is flexible and watertight provides extra reliability. Because of the intensive loading, the floor must be both hygienic and wear resistant.
