ON THE COVER: Faith

When I arrived at the NXG motorsports academy, I did not know what to expect through my association with Girls Stem Institute. My knowledge of motorsports was minimal, and I had never taken an interest in the subject before. By combining typical classroom instruction and hands-on experience, I have gained much more knowledge about motorsports through NXG. I also have a newfound interest in the subject, and I am excited to learn more about motorsports.

In the classroom, which took place at Fastimes Indoor Karting rather than the Indianapolis Motor Speedway due to weather, I learned the basics of motorsports. My favorite thing I learned about was the different types of flags and their meanings. I also learned about other motor vehicles, the science and mathematics behind motorsports, and how to operate a gokart. The things I learned in the classroom helped prepare me for my time on the track at Fastime and helped prepare me for life by learning how cars work and drive.

After time in the classroom, I went to the track, and I was able to gain valuable hands-on experience. Driving in the go-kart was one of the most fun experiences I have had since the start of the pandemic. Being able to race against others while going at a fast speed was exhilarating. In addition, I was able to apply what I learned in the classroom while driving the go-kart on the track, which made the experience a lot more rewarding.

The NXG motorsports academy is a wonderful organization. I walked through the door having almost no knowledge about motorsports. However, I left knowing the basics behind motorsports and how to apply that knowledge to real-life situations. Overall my Girls Stem Institute experience with the NXG motorsports academy was amazing, and they have inspired me to learn more about motorsports and racing.
