Letter from the Editor

Trust: So hard to give but so easy to be broken. This was the one thing that I heard several times from meeting with the kids. I think the articles in this issue on trust are spot on; I couldn’t say it better myself. So, I thought I would add some food for thought... Are you trustworthy? Can you be trusted? Have you asked yourself these questions? Have you thought about what things may be like if roles were reversed with a friend or family in a situation regarding trust? I’m not taking sides; I’m just asking if you’ve thought about how you would have handled said situation if you were the other person? I think it is very easy to judge and to get mad, but much harder to put ourselves in the other person’s situation and walk a mile in their shoes. Trust really is a two way street and I love the dictionary noun version of trust: Firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. “relations have to be built on trust.” Synonyms: confidence, belief, faith, certainty, assurance, conviction, credence, reliance" Good relationships are built on Trust. Good relationships have to be built on trust. However, trust is only as good as the strength or ability of the other person, along with the strength and ability of ourselves. By strengthening our abilities in trust we can give assurance that we are trustworthy.

Darla H.

St. Pat ri c k's Day!

ENTERTAINMENT

Why Wear Green? Many of us know that on St. Patrick's day you are suppose to wear green to avoid getting pinched. But why green? Did you know that the original color for St. Patrick's Day was blue? Green didn't become the color to wear until the Irish Rebellion in the 1700s. It was during this time that the clover became an Irish symbol and the color green soon became a widely accepted color representing the nation of Ireland.

Why Get Pinched? So now we know that wearing green is traditionally the color to wear on St. Patrick's day. But why get pinched if you aren't wearing green? The theory is that when you are wearing green you are invisible to the leprechauns. Now it's these leprechauns that like to go around pinching people. However, they can't pinch people they can't see. For this reason, people must wear green to avoid getting pinched by others.

Cherry Delight...

Ingredient s: Crust

● 22-gram cracker rectangles (chocolate or original) Another option is 12 oz of animal crackers (original or chocolate) ● 4 tbsp (tablespoons) powdered sugar ● 1 ½ sticks of margarine (butter)

Filling ● Eight oz (ounces) of cream cheese ● Three cups of powdered sugar ● 8-12 oz cool whip

Topping ● Two 21 oz cans of cherry pie filling

Direct ions: For this recipe, a 9x13 pan will be needed. Crush the gram crackers of your choice thoroughly. (My family enjoys the chocolate animal crackers.) Stir in 4 tbsp of powdered sugar in a large bowl. Melt 1 ½ sticks of margarine in microwave safe bowl. Then stir in the margarine until the mixture is moist. Some crackers are too dry for this recipe so add more margarine if needed. Pat the mixture evenly over the bottom of the pan. In a separate bowl, mix in the cream cheese and powdered sugar 1 cup at a time. Beat until smooth. Then stir in the cool whip but be sure not to over mix the ingredients too thin. Spread the creamy mixture evenly over the crust and add in the 2 cans of cherry pie filling. When the dessert looks to your liking, place it in the fridge for chilling.

One of the men who invented candy was a dentist. His name was William James Morrison.

The number one holiday with candy is Christmas, not Halloween.

The mystery flavor of Dum Dum suckers is always a mixture of 2 of them.

Jelly beans were invented to stop a smoking habit.

The Three Musketeers were invented from three flavors… Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.

90% of parents will eat one piece of their kid’s candy.

A family lives in a large tower apartment building, 10 floors high. Every day their son takes the elevator from the family’s apartment on the 10th floor to the ground floor and goes to school. When he returns in the afternoon, he uses the elevator to get to the fifth floor, and then uses the stairs for the remaining five floors. Why?

A group of campers have been on vacation so long, that they've forgotten the day of the week. The following conversation ensues. Darryl: What's the day? I dont think it is Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Tracy: Well that doesn't narrow it down much. Yesterday was Sunday. Melissa: Yesterday wasn't Sunday, tomorrow is Sunday. Ben: The day after tomorrow is Saturday. Adrienne: The day before yesterday was Thursday. Susie: Tomorrow is Saturday. David: I know that the day after tomorrow is not Friday. If only one person's statement is true, what day of the week is it?

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Let me introduce the athlete of the month, Lilly! Lilly is 13 years old, in 8th grade and she goes to Oakland Middle school. She plays softball, basketball and volleyball. She plays for the Eagles and the Mustangs. She travels a lot to Kansas City and St. Louis for tournaments on the weekends. When she goes to tournaments, she likes to hang out with friends at the hotel after her games. Her favorite part about being an athlete is playing sports with her friends. Something she has learned from playing sports is teamwork. She said it makes her a better person and helps her outside of sports too. Her favorite coach is her dad. He taught her how to play softball and about teamwork. He also taught her that it’s not always about winning; it’s about having fun with her friends. Other hobbies she has are watching Netflix and eating. Her teammates think her personality is funny and they love playing softball with her. She said that she has made some of her best friends playing sports. Lilly keeps training and has a good mindset because she wants to do sports in the future. She also does not want to let her teammates down. When she has free time, she practices hitting in her garage with her dad. Lilly’s favorite sport that she plays is softball. And the Spring season is just starting!

Never Give Up... I started Gymnastics when I was 3. The only thing available in our little town at the time was tumbling. I loved tumbling. That year was also the Summer Olympics. I tuned into Gymnastics and discovered there was more than just tumbling. I wanted to do it all: bars, beam, floor, and vault. I tried a couple of other places not too far out of town but felt like I was stuck. I wanted to get serious about Gymnastics. My mom did some searching and asking around, and I ended up at JC Gymnastics and now on a competitive team. It has become my passion. I plan/hope to go far. I have always been told I can be and do whatever I want. I just have to stay true to myself and work hard.

Mee t Ty so n Hi! I’m Tyson, a long time BoldlyU artie. Around where I live, I’m known for my crazy hair, and always smiling. I’m kinda goofy, and I love having fun. I play basketball with my friends every day at the Y, and in my free time, I mess around with rap music. I use music as a healthy way to express myself. If something really bugged me, or I get really mad, I’ll come home and rap about it. As you’ll read on the next page, my life isn’t perfect, but I don’t think about it like that. I think everyone gets tested, and everyone scores differently. I am a firm believer that laughter is the best medicine, so I always wear a smile and try my hand at having a great time wherever I’m at. I play a lot of different sports. I think at this age you can’t really be scared to branch out. When you’re trying to find where you fit in, the worse thing you can do is limit yourself. Everything might not work out, but at least it was a new experience! I think it is best to live always an optimist. Try to find the light in every situation!

How To Gain Trus t Back

FEAT URED

Trust is an intangible item that has an unimaginable value. The only problem is that some people don’t know how to gain trust. Though it is a long process, trust can be earned and granted to you. Unfortunately, all of the trust that you have gained can be lost in an instant. I’ve been through a crisis before where someone that I really cared about betrayed my trust. To help him, and others who may feel like they’ve blown it, there are steps that can be taken to regain trust. 1. Come clean If you’ve done something wrong, you shouldn’t hide any details. Whoever you hurt deserves to know the details, and keeping things hidden can only hurt the situation. Tell the whole story, and everything should come out. 2. Allow t hem to rant No matter how simple or complex your situation, betraying another person will be very harmful to the trust between you. Any betrayal should warrant a rant, and this is something that you should accept. Everyone will deal with the situation differently, but after you’ve come clean, then it is almost guaranteed that the person that was betrayed will be angry. Negative emotions only build if they are kept inside, so it is essential that they are allowed a place to vent. Just take the anger and move on. 3. Apologize This is the most obvious step so far, but it is extremely important. If the person is already upset with you, imagine how they would feel if you weren’t sorry, or didn’t even regret betraying their trust! Don’t suggest that you were misunderstood, or that they overreacted. Just say that you are sorry, that you are ashamed and guilty. They will be more likely to forgive you this way. 4. Don’t beat yourself up After you’ve apologized, there is likely to be lingering guilt about your deed. It is imperative that you forgive yourself as they forgive you. Know what you did was wrong, but be able to move on, and promise to do better. Forgive yourself, but don’t forget, so that you don’t make the same mistake twice. Just as important as the actions of the betrayer are the actions of the one who was betrayed. What good is an apology if you aren’t willing to accept it? What good can they do to rebuild trust if you’ve already given up? Consider accepting their apology, and remember that everyone deserves a second chance.

Fashion Photo Shoot!

The BoldlyU photo shoot was really fun. Some people got to shoot the photos and/or learn how to control the camera and all of the light settings. There was a handle/strap on the camera to go around your neck because if you dropped it, you would have to pay for it and it would cost about $5,000 to replace it. It was really heavy, so when you hold it you have to be safe with it so that you don’t drop it. When you used the camera, you would see a red dot, and you would point it on the person’s face. After taking the picture, you would have to wait for the beep before taking the next picture. There were also two buttons to push to take the picture on different sides of the camera. The reason the camera had two buttons on different sides of the camera was because you can take pictures different ways. You can take them facing straight up or turn the camera sideways to make it narrower. It felt like we were kinda in a fashion show because we got to change into different clothes/dresses and we had props to go with our outfits. It was really fun to hang out with our friends and show who we really are. We had a great time, and we got along really well with the other BoldlyU girls that were at the shoot with us. Every time we had to take a new picture, Darla had to put the action sign up. We all had a great time! Thanks, Darla!

PINK OUT GAME Pink out is more than just a basketball game with lots of decorations that you go to, to hang out with your friends. It is an opportunity to give a family a second chance. Pink out games were invented to make money and donate to a person with cancer. Pink out started back in 1991 when people gave out pink ribbons to support those who suffer from breast cancer. As time evolved, we started recognizing all types of cancer. They chose the color “pink to honor the women with breast cancer. Now we donate money to everyone in need to start their treatment and begin saving lives.

Every year schools all across the world hold a basketball game called pink out, where they come up with fundraisers and donations to give a family money for their treatments. But I bet you don’t know the history of it. Each school honors a different person in their community, and sometimes the school will honor the same person twice. The Pink Ribbon that is used for the symbol of breast cancer has been around since 1979, when people would give this ribbon out to honor the women with breast cancer. Nowadays, there are several different types of cancer, so there are different colored ribbons. Most schools and organizations have different types of fundraisers. At my school, we do a silent auction. Classrooms and businesses donate a basket full of things or something from their business. We had six tables full of baskets and other gifts. All the profits go to helping the family we are honoring, and the cancer research fund at the hospital of choice. At halftime of the basketball game, the family goes to half court and receives a basketball and the money that is donated to them. A couple of weeks before the game, the school sells things such as pencils, bracelets, notebooks, stuffed animals, suckers, and the last couple of days we sell cupcakes. This is all ran by student council, and then all the money we make goes to the family we are honoring that year. The fund that the schools are doing is not only helping someone, but it could save someone. So next time you go to a pink out game, just remember why you are there. You are there to honor a person who is suffering from a disease that needs another chance. 30

S POT LIGHT T W EE N

ON THE COVER: HAYDEN

My name is Hayden. I am 9 years old! I love my family, my dogs, and my bunnies. In my free time… I like to play Xbox, learn new karate moves in class, race go-karts, and go camping. I also love to have slumber parties with all of my cousins at my grandparent’s house! I am in 3rd grade. I don’t have many challenges because my mom homeschools me, so she pretty much helps me with everything. Memorizing math facts is probably the most challenging part of school, but I do love math! My biggest accomplishment of my life so far is when I received my brown belt in karate. It took a lot of hard work, dedication, and even studying at home! I’m proud of everything I have learned, but I can’t wait to be a black belt one day! I don’t really feel like I have many struggles in life. I have had some sad times, like losing some family members and my puppy named Kahlua. Losing my dog was probably the hardest time in my life because she was my best friend and I think about her all the time. I have lots of good memories with her so that always helps. I have great parents and family that are always there for me anytime I’m sad! If I were to give advice to others…I would say that you should always listen to your parents. They help you learn and grow, and they always know what is best for you. You should always be grateful for all of your family. I don’t know what I would do without any of my mine! To me, trust means to always tell the truth. Lying is wrong, and it hurts people’s feelings. I don’t ever lie to my parents because I don’t want to make them sad, and they don’t ever lie to me either. When I was a little boy, I always told everyone that I wanted to be Abraham Lincoln, so that I could be known as Honest Abe. I hope everyone will know me for my kindness, and that everyone can trust me and count on me.

DEAR FUTURE ME I just can’t trust anybody. It seems like every time I let someone in, they stump on my heart and leave. I just can’t take it anymore! How am I suppose to continue being with these “friends” when I feel so much hurt and it physically is making me sick. My “friends” are the popular kids and I don’t want to stop hanging them around them. If I do, then I might as well not try because know one will -Past You talk to me or be my friend. Feeling broken! -Past You

DEAR PAST ME I know that this time can make you feel broken with not much hope, but I’m hear to tell you that you made it and you are so much stronger. One of your “friends” reached out to you and saw that you were hurting, you had never opened up to her before. You found out that she was struggling too and she was the really popular one. You started to open up to her more and more and she did the same and now you are inseparable. Sometimes in our brokenness we just have to open up a little bit to someone even when its hard to find that you aren’t alone. Trusting someone works both ways. I’m so proud of you! -Future You

OVERCOMIN G ST RUGLES WITH T RUST When It comes to trust, I’ve always been careful with who I trust. When you want to trust someone, it should be someone you’ve known for a long time and someone who is also responsible. Personally, I can automatically tell if someone is trustworthy by their actions. If someone is disrespectful, irresponsible, and has a tendency to lie, then obviously you’re not going to trust that person. If someone is respectful, responsible and is good at keeping their word you should trust that person. I developed these thoughts on trust because of my relationship with my parents, in particular, my mother. My mother and I have a complicated relationship because she promises me she’s going to do something, and most of the time it never happens. I have a very hard time talking to her, or taking her word on anything because she’s broken that trust with me so many times. Not only was this hard growing up, but now, I have a harder time trusting other people outside of my family. I do love my mother, and because I love her, I think it’s a good idea to distance myself from her, so we both don’t hurt each other. I know for a fact, when I’m going through something difficult in my life, I can always trust in God. I trust that God will help me get through obstacles as long as I do what is supposed to be done, and do it faithfully. I honestly do believe if you trust in God then your life will become so much easier! I like to think of the bible quote “He That Is In Me Is Greater Than He That Is In The World,” meaning if you trust in God then you can overcome anything that the world throws towards you.

Counselor’s Corner As teens, you have a tough task of choosing trusting relationships, because there are some potential roadblocks. Issues like peer pressure and things like social media are examples. You can land yourself blocked, laughed at, trolled by an unwanted frenemy, or your pics or snaps shared with someone without your knowledge or consent. So, how do you know when it is the right time to trust the person you have just met or have been friends with for quite some time? Fantastic question. Here are some questions you may have, initially, about forming a trusting relationship with someone. Will he/she be a good friend? If I tell him/her a secret, can he/she keep it a secret? If I have to cancel plans, will he/she understand or will he/she get mad at me? Will he/she be the same all the time, no matter who is around or will he/ she be friends with me one day and an enemy the next? Can he/she handle me at my best and at my worst? Is he/she fun to be around? Would I like hanging out with him/her on a regular? Will our Friday nights be lit or whack? This is just a mini list of questions that may come up for you when you think about entering into a new friendship or relationship with someone. And just to clarify, the word relationship can mean friendship and vice versa. A relationship does not necessarily mean a “girlfriend/boyfriend” relationship with someone, but could simply mean a friendship. So, what does TRUST look like? How do I know that I am trustworthy or the other person is trustworthy? Yay! Thanks for asking, there is an answer. The tips are broken down into five (5) key points. And guess what? The points just so happen to spell the word, “TRUST!”

ST RICT LY T WEENS

T - Trut hful: Being truthful is extremely important in forming a relationship with someone. People who lie or do not tell the full truth may be considered untrustworthy. As teens, it is so incredibly important to trust and be trusted. Make sure you are HONEST. R - Reliable: Being reliable is a must. No one likes depending on someone to do something, and the person flakes. Meaning, the person does not show up or follow through with what he/she said he/she would do. Be dependable, show up, and be prepared. Stay true to your word. U - Unders tanding: Being understanding is key. It says, “I want to know more about you. I am here to listen to your fears, your concerns, or be here just because.” You allow the other person to understand that they matter and are important to you because you are taking the time to understand them. S - Silly: You have to have fun! Seeking someone with a funny personality, who can be silly, says, “He/she does not mind having a good time, and he/she makes me laugh.” Being silly can break up a tense situation, and allow more fun and connection in your relationship. T - T houghtful: Being thoughtful says, “I am thinking of you. You matter. I am doing this strictly for you, and taking myself out of the equation.” You take the feelings and needs of the other person into consideration. Thoughtfulness is an awesome trait to exhibit! Anytime you have a question, review these five (5) key tips to forming a trusting relationship with someone and make sure that you, too, can also be a trusted individual.

THE KNOW HOW

Hi! My name is Jaycie, and I’m going to talk about my sister Sam because she had Pancreatitis. So here’s how my story goes… We just got home from eating at Dos Primos and Sam, my oldest sister, woke up and 5 minutes later she had a really bad pain in her stomach. We called MawMaw, my mom’s mom and she came over to our house to help us figure out if we needed to take Sam to the hospital. My Mom and MawMaw decided to take Sam to the doctor in Boonville. The doctor there did not know what was causing the pain, so my mom, grandma, my other sister Abbey and I took Sam to the Emergency room in Columbia. My Dad met all of us at the emergency room, and we finally found out what was causing Sam’s pain. The emergency room doctors said she had Pancreatitis. The doctor’s at the ER couldn’t do anything for her because she was still a child at the time. This was very confusing to me!!! So the ER took her by ambulance to a hospital that was for children. By the time we got to the Children’s hospital it was 1:00 in the morning. My family was so exhausted. MawMaw took my sister Abbey and I back to her house to stay the night. My mom stayed with Sam that night so she wouldn’t be alone. My dad had to miss a couple of days at work so he could run back and forth from Columbia to Fayette to get things for Sam and my mom. The next morning we went back to the hospital to see Sam, and we found out that she couldn’t eat or drink anything. I felt really sad for Sam when we found this out. We were all crying because we were so worried. The other bad part of this was that we were supposed to go to Kansas City for a family vacation. Abbey and I really didn’t want to go to Kansas City without Sam, but mom thought it would be good for us to go and get the things that Sam wanted from the trip. Mom and Dad stayed with Sam and my sister Abbey, and I went with our Aunt and MawMaw to Kansas City. We were in Kansas City for a few days, and when we got back, Sam was still not able to eat and drink anything. Abbey and I were crying so hard. It was awful to watch our sister be in so much pain and unable to do the things that she normally could do. It took a couple more days for Sam to be able to eat food and drink but she was able to go home and recover. Abbey and I continued to stay with MawMaw while Sam was getting well. I hope you never have to experience seeing your sibling go through as much pain as my sister did. It was a very tough time for Sam and our family.

THE KNOW HOW

Parent’s Corner Trusting the Goo... Did you know that at one point in the life cycle of a butterfly, the caterpillar MELTS? Did you KNOW that? First, it’s this wiggly little squishy thing crawling around eating everything, then all of a sudden it turns into goo! That caterpillar has to liquefy before it can turn into a flying creature. Metamorphosis: it is the magical process of a squishy, crawling thing changing into a sparkly, flying thing. And it cannot happen unless the butterfly goes through this really icky, gooey, scary stage when it really can’t do anything except stay still and let it happen. That’s why God made the stage where the caterpillar is encased in a tiny prison where it can’t get away (moths have cocoons and butterflies have a chrysalis). Because if that stage happened out in the open, the caterpillar might be afraid and choose to just keep crawling around eating everything in sight and stay forever a creeping, crawling bug! You see, God knew that that creature – not having a sense of what’s happening – needed to be wrapped up safe and sound before the melting process begins that brings the next stage of allowing the wings and antennae and proboscis (that’s the tiny straw thing that it sucks up nectar from flowers with) and spindly legs to form. Unless it has the goo stage, it could never become a beautiful, magical, flying butterfly. Trust: In nature, this is a perfect example of it. Trust in the process of life. Tweens: In life, this seems like a perfect time to think of the butterfly’s process so that you can imagine how you, too, are becoming a new creation.

THE KNOW HOW

Sometimes it feels like life gets so hard and nobody likes us, we say the wrong things, we’re the only one without a boyfriend or girlfriend, we don’t fit in, and we make a lot of mistakes everywhere we look. Sometimes life just feels like we’re walking in “goo” and can’t seem to make it off the ground, or to even hope. It’s depressing. I get it. But this is not the time to despair. This is the time to TRUST! Because you are in a process that everyone goes through at some point in their lives – and a lot of our parents go through it a second time in their forties and fifties – so you are not alone, even though it might really feel like it! Think of how alone that caterpillar must feel: it hatched, it crawled, it ate, it built a chrysalis, then all of a sudden it’s liquid?! “Come ON, God! What are you thinking?!!” Just trust. You can trust that this is all a part of a bigger plan. And the plan is that you are especially gifted for something very special in your life, and you will go through stages before becoming the “flying creature” that you are meant to be. Believe it. You WILL fly some day. Trust the process and try to be calm and “still” when everything feels messy around you. Soon you will know that it is time to break out of that gooey-feeling, lonely, dark place. You will rest as your wings dry and expand. Then you will realize that you are a new creation, finally ready to fly! No one else’s purpose will be exactly like yours. Everyone is unique and amazing and special, including you. Just know that when you feel depressed and in the dark, this is the time to trust and allow God to “liquefy” you into goo so that the next stage of your life can bring you wings to fly!

What’s really in the food we eat?

McDonald’s: it’s easy and convenient, but what’s really in the food we are eating? I found out that in a medium portion of fries there is 340 calories, 16 grams of fat, and 44 grams of carbs. At first, it doesn’t seem that bad until you realize that’s just a side dish. For comparison, a breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, and coffee will set you back just about the same amount. If you were making fries at home you would think you would just use potatoes, oil, and salt but did you know McDonald’s uses 19 ingredients total. Did you know the FDA allows food producers to spray deli meats with the same stuff that is used in the hospital to kill germs? Food companies often advertise natural flavors and vitamins, but they are less likely to promote the fish bladder or human hair. So make sure to look and see what’s really in the food your eating.

THE KNOW HOW

It all started when I had to go to the doctor to draw some blood. It ended up being two tubes of blood. Then, I had to go get the results. I had to start a very strict diet where I can only have up to 25 grams of sugar a day. However, when it is a holiday, the doctor said I could have as much as I want. Then, they said to go back to my diet. I can only have pudding and jello if they are sugar-free. Also, I can only have Oven Baked Chips and sometimes diet soda. I can’t have candy, junk food, or anything of that sort. Being a pre-diabetic means, you have to watch everything you eat. So now I have to be careful or else I might be a diabetic soon. We figured out that I have an underactive thyroid that makes it hard to lose weight, and it turns stuff you eat to sugar. The doctor said it’s like you’re always hungry, but you can never lose weight. That is so me. That’s the end of the pre-diabetic life so far.

Caitlyn, 12

What is Diabetes? Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is your main source of energy and comes from the food you eat. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy. Sometimes your body doesn’t make enough—or any—insulin or doesn’t use insulin well. Glucose then stays in your blood and doesn’t reach your cells. From NIH (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases)

THE KNOW HOW

Diabetes is often linked to the high rate of childhood obesity in the United States. This is characterized by a lack of physical activity and a poor diet. The earlier in life you can build healthy habits, and therefore a healthy body, the better your life will be in later years when it is harder to make those changes. Here are a few tips for preventing and managing diabetes!

1

Listen to your doctor!

2

Eat lots of fruits and vegetables! Fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals that help keep your body healthy and strong. They also contain water and fiber which keeps you hydrated and feeling full for longer which helps prevent over-eating later in the day!

3

Choose your breads/pastas based on fiber content!

4

Sugar-free gum!

Especially if you have been diagnosed as diabetic or having pre-diabetes, it is important to listen to your doctor on ways to manage and monitor your blood sugar.

Much like the fiber found in fruits and veggies, some carbohydrate sources are full of fiber which helps slow the digestion of the food. This helps control the insulin response of the body. This helps prevent large spikes in insulin levels and keep you full throughout the day.

Keep a pack of sugar-free gum handy for when you have a craving for something sweet. Rather than eating candy or cookies, sugar-free gum is low in calories but still gives you the satisfaction of tasting something sweet!

58

March/April 2018

5

Use a pedometer or fitness tracker watch!

6

Find FUN ways to exercise!

It is vital that you get a sufficient amount of physical activity throughout the day. Set a goal of at least 10,000 steps per day. If you notice that you haven’t reached your goal by dinner, go for a walk after you eat to get those steps in! If you play sports, find additional ways to get some practice in that gets the heart rate up and calories burning! If you are not a sports-lover, there are still many ways to get exercise. Ask your parents if they can take you to the gym with them. Take your dog for long walks. Find local parks to visit and go hiking!
