Collaborative The best teachers are those who are engaged, passionate about what they do and take a personal interest in your success. At Boise State, you’ll work with accomplished professors who are eager to collaborate and share their knowledge with you. Their achievements speak for themselves. Many of our professors are internationally recognized scholars, authors or lecturers. Others consult for governments and corporations worldwide or spearhead groundbreaking research.

FACULTY PROFILES >

Art professor John Francis initiated “Transit” for art and design students from Boise State and Nagoya Zokei University in Japan. Students collaborated to create joint exhibitions in a variety of media and shared one important form of communication — the creation of art, which goes beyond any barriers of language.

> Engineering professors Don Plumlee, Jim

Browning, Amy Moll, Sin Ming Loo and Inanc Senocak have been awarded a $630,479

OUTSTANDING FACULTY

NASA EPSCoR grant through the Idaho Space Grant Consortium to support their work on electric propulsion in lowtemperature, co-fired ceramic (LTCC) materials. The collaborative project is focused on developing an affordable, micro-propulsion system.

Since 1990, The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has named eleven Boise State professors “Idaho Professor of the Year.”

Equally as dedicated to their students as they are to their work in the community, our professors keep regular office hours so that you can ask questions, seek advice or simply get to know them on a more personal level. And although Boise State is regarded as a major metropolitan research university, you’ll find that full-time professors, not graduate assistants, teach most of your classes—even introductory courses.

Valuable You can learn a great deal about a university and the value of its education simply by taking a close look at the success of its students. At Boise State University, our number one priority is our students’ success, and we’ll do what it takes to help you achieve your goals. For instance, Finish in Four guarantees that you can complete a degree in four years if you follow a planned course of study. If not, Boise State will pay for the additional required courses.

• Performing field studies on forest insect populations and plant pathologies for the Unites States Forest Service • Working with government organizations to research alternative energy and energy efficiency in office buildings and small businesses • Assisting with the construction of the Hood Canal Bridge in Washington State

• Assisting with Music Recording and Engineering at a local recording studio

INTERNSHIPS

• Conducting review of tax accounts for foreign subsidiaries of Micron Technology, Inc.

Boise State has built a robust internship program and every year Boise State students receive valuable internships throughout the state and beyond. Some have worked as interns for some of the leading companies in the nation, including Micron, SuperValue (formerly Albertsons), Simplot and Hewlett-Packard. Others have interned at the Idaho Legislature and for the City of Boise. To get an idea of what opportunities may be in store for you, here are a few more examples of internships recently filled by Boise State students: • People to People Leadership Summit Facilitator: Training high school students in International Diplomacy and Business • Working on a marketing team for Daimler Chrysler in Germany providing factory tours to potential customers and visitors

• Creating a corporate wellness program for employees of local companies through the YMCA

ONE SUCCESS STORY > Boise State University engineering students

Dan Isla and Alex Miller participated in NASA’s Microgravity University program in Houston, Texas. Working alongside Barbara Morgan, former NASA astronaut and now Boise State’s distinguished educator in residence, the team boarded a specially outfitted G-Force One plane and tested the traction of custom wheel designs in a lunar dust-like substance. Research results will help NASA engineers address anticipated challenges in building better rovers for missions to the moon and Mars.

RESEARCH At Boise State, research isn’t something you learn, it’s something you do—side-by-side with your professors. It’s not like that everywhere. At most universities, only graduate students can participate in research. Our commitment to providing direct, hands-on learning for all our students results in unmatched research exposure and opportunity. You’ll work alongside faculty in a wide range of research projects, such as monitoring groundwater flow, studying brain functions or conducting community surveys. You’ll co-write papers with faculty mentors. You’ll present your own findings at Boise State’s annual Undergraduate Research Conference or at professional meetings around the country. Besides providing you with opportunities to work with nationally recognized scholars, your research experience can also help open the door to graduate school or an exciting career.

TOP NOTCH PREPARATION

U.S. News and World Report ranks Boise State No. 3 in the western division of its “Keep an Eye on These Schools” list for master’s degree institutions that have “recently made striking improvements or innovations.”

> Boise State graduate Seth Kuhlman and current Boise State students

Ben Cooper and Jackie Forhan drove across the United States last summer to visit the stadiums of professional football teams to conduct hands-on experiments using a unique machine constructed at Boise State. Their mission: to measure how different types of football cleats rebound and respond to artificial turf. The research is part of an NFL-funded project to study why turf-related injuries occur, and if changes in footwear or artificial turf could result in fewer injuries for NFL players.

freshman ADMISSIONS INDEX The Boise State Admission Index is used to evaluate your admissibility to Boise State. It combines high school GPA and ACT or SAT scores, placing the most weight on GPA. Find your GPA across the top and your test score down the left side. Draw a line from each toward the center until they intersect. If the intersection indicates you are an Excellent Candidate, you are highly likely to be admitted. If you are a Possible Candidate, admission will depend on several factors, including your academic record, date of application, and class availability. Some applicants in this range may be invited to participate in the Bridge Program. Will you be admitted? Find out online here: admissions.boisestate.edu/index
