ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER ABOUT THE BOISE WATERSHED: Dive into the world of water and learn how you can help protect and conserve our resources using high-tech, hands-on exhibits. Located at the West Boise Water Renewal Facility, the LEED-certified building features exhibits, a library and theater, and the largest concentration of public art in the state of Idaho. The new interactive River Campus on the two-acres surrounding the education center offers a unique opportunity to explore your watershed and get wet in a park-like setting. VISIT THE BOISE WATERSHED Let the Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center introduce you to your watershed through interactive exhibits and public art. Individuals and families may drop in to explore the free exhibit hall and river campus during business hours without reservation. Groups of 10 or more people should call (208) 608-7300 at least two weeks in advance to schedule a free tour. Tours and lessons are designed to engage groups in hands-on activities, demonstrations, science experiments, and outdoor education. Outreach programs for the cities of Boise, Garden City, Meridian and Eagle are also offered at no charge. For descriptions of our lessons and tours, visit www.BoiseEnvironmentalEducation.org

WATERSHED WEEKEND PROGRAMS

Join us at the Boise WaterShed every third Saturday of each month for nature and art activities the whole family can enjoy! Activities take place from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. FREE admission! No pre-registration required unless stated otherwise.

SEPTEMBER 16  Fun at the Farm! (off site) Did you know that the City of Boise

owns a farm, where compost is used and created? Join us for a day at the Twenty Mile South Farm to learn how the City of Boise utilizes the “solids” from your toilet flushes, and also tour the new city composting facility! Take a bus tour of the 4,200+ acre farm, visit the first net-zero commercial facility in Idaho, check out the awesome farm equipment, and play some fun fall carnival games! NOTE: The event will be held at 9560 W. Nicholson Rd. in Kuna, NOT the Boise WaterShed. Pre-registration is required for this FREE event – please call 608-7300 or email BW@cityofboise.org to register by September 14th.

OCTOBER 21  Fall Festival! Come celebrate the beautiful fall colors in the City of Trees

at the Boise WaterShed! Create festive Fall-themed arts and crafts, like Pumpkin painting; explore the exhibit hall and take a silly harvest photo! Meet some live reptiles in the theater with Reptile Adventures! Finally, take a fun hay ride tour on the outskirts of the water renewal facility to learn what happens when you flush at 10:15, 11:00, 11:45 and 12:30! Tours limited to first 25 people, weather-permitting. Food available for purchase from Kono Pizza.

NOVEMBER 18 Map Mania Trek your way to the Boise WaterShed for a day of

mapping to celebrate GIS Day! This year’s event will have a safari theme! From 10:00-1:00 travel into the wild with your adventure passport and create your own habitat and savannah maps, then monkey over to make jungle cookie maps, take a safari quiz, and play wildlife games for cool prizes. New exciting activities this year! At 11:30 take a water renewal facility tour. Brought to you by the Southwest Idaho GIS Users Group.

FREE SCHOOL BREAK PROGRAMS

THANKSGIVING BREAK DROP-IN PROGRAM:  NOV 20 - 22 Gobble your way to fun in the exhibit hall to make and take crafts and activities with a Thanksgiving theme. Crafts and activities will take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with a water renewal facility tour at 11:00 a.m. (weather permitting) Tour limited to 40 people, closed-toe shoes required, no strollers. FREE admission!

WINTER BREAK  JANUARY 2-5

In addition to the hands-on fun of the exhibit hall, special winter and snowthemed activities and crafts will take place from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Note: no water renewal facility tours this week.

HOME SCHOOL DAYS  OCTOBER 10 AND DECEMBER 12 Calling all home-schoolers! We’re offering FREE programs catered to children ages 3 - 12 on Tuesdays this Fall. Several programs will be offered concurrently so that there’s something for all ages. All classes require pre-registration at least a week in advance by calling 608-7300 or email BW@cityofboise.org. Be a water quality scientist for a day and diagnose the health of the Boise River! No experience is needed to participate. Individuals and groups are assigned locations throughout the watershed from Lucky Peak to Caldwell, and a trained expert will lead the group in monitoring activities. Get your feet wet by using the water testing kits or searching for the water bugs that call the Boise River their home. All ages are welcome.
