On behalf of our entire family, it is with great pride and excitement that we welcome you to our ranch west of Carstairs for the “Elegance Era” Female Sale – marking 35 years in the Simmental business for Ultra Livestock!
This milestone is not just a celebration of the years, it’s a celebration of the relationships, genetics, and progress that have brought us to this point. We want to welcome all Cattlemen and Cattlewomen in our industry. We’re honored to have your support and presence at this special event.
The Simmental breed is incredibly special to us. I do believe the cattle in this breed are unbelievably strong but to me the greatest part of this breed is the people in it. The lifelong friendships we have gained from being a part of this breed is something we think about often. This collective group of Simmental breeders are so supportive and have been great promoters of the breed & mentors to breeders like myself! We don’t do it as much as we’d like to but when you get the chance to tour other herds & visit with breeders like no time has passed think that’s unique!
We have had the privilege of venturing into some remarkable cattle with some incredible partners over the years that have helped strengthened our program. We would be remiss if we did not recognize these partnerships that we truly value such as the strong one we hold with Hay Valley Ranches. Trish and Peter Putnam came to us in 2017 and brought their powerful females to join forces. As you will see throughout the book the HVAL tattoo runs deep around here. They’re awesome people, great friends and always have so much excitement when talking about Simmental Cattle. We’d like to thank them for all they do for us and cheers to many more years ahead!
Our goal has been to breed high quality cattle, that work for us without extra effort. Back in 2003 Tim & Cathy held our very first Ultra Production Sale and as we look back on that first catalog he states, “I liked what saw in the Black Simmentals and the future looks promising for these cattle”. He was sure right! As we have progressed into both red, black, & fleckvieh Simmentals, we still think the future looks bright ahead! A very promising fall is surely upon us as markets are strong and its great time to be in the cattle industry.
We are thrilled to present a powerful lineup of bred females, frozen genetics, ‘pick of the herd fleckvieh cows’, and select groups of red and black blaze faced commercial heifer calves. Throughout the catalogue it will reflect decades of careful selection, performance, and predictability. From proven cow families to promising young progeny, we think these genetics are versatile and will make a strong impact on their new programs. We want to express a heartfelt thanks to all our customers, friends, and partners whose trust and loyalty to our program over the years, it’s your confidence in our program that drives us forward.
We know it’s a busy time of year with harvest; in the case you cannot be with us sale day the sale will be broadcast live on DLMS, this is also where you can find the sale lot videos. Bohrson Marketing - Scott, Rebecca & their team are great friends of ours. We trust them heavily and they know our cow herd. What better way to celebrate 35 impactful years in the Simmental breed than hosting the “Elegance Era” female sale! The Chalack family has deep ties to the livestock industry and have decided to hold nothing back with this special sale representing over 3.5 decades of careful selection and breeding up for auction at the ranch near Carstairs, AB on September 25, 2025! We are very proud of our close working relationship with the Ultra Livestock family and wish to welcome you for an evening of great cattle and fellowship on behalf of Tim, Cathy, Riley and Cassidy as well as all of us at BMS, make sure to mark your calendars as it is sure to be a must attend event of the fall.
The Ultra cowherd is one that has been built steadily around cow families. This is evident as you flip through the red, fleck and black sections. The Ultra cowherd has been selected and sculpted around production, with an emphasis on foot and udder quality and females that have extra volume and power but still are very easy on the eyes. The Ultra cowherd is one that has certainly been able to get it done in all aspects of the business from winning cattle shows to most importantly annually supplying their loyal commercial bull buyers with a quality product they can count on year after year. Annually the Ultra program hosts one of the most exciting and successful bull sales which speaks volumes to not only the cattle but the people behind them. We feel this is so important to mention as these are the sisters to the bulls out of the powerful dams that make it happen each year.
This special event truly has a little bit of everything to offer something to everyone. Not only diverse in terms of colour, but the representation of sires and donors that are not only new and exciting but proven and “older” is exciting. These females are built to be the front pasture kind at their new homes and we feel it is as deep and exiting of a set of bred Simmental females as anywhere this fall. Deep, rich pedigrees with exciting services to perfectly compliment females with a tonne of shape and eye appeal. The special “pick of the herd” lot is as good of an opportunity as you will find anywhere this fall in the Fullblood section and we encourage you to tour through those exciting females they have put together!

It feels only fitting to start this special event off with a female that we know has all the pieces to the puzzle. Cottonball 36M, full sister to the $140,000 phenom ULTRA/HVAL TOMMY GUNN that sold in 2024 to Siroski Simmental’s and Canadian Sires. This would be one of the very first red Cottonball females to come from that linage. 36M is one that was never planned on being sold and had the intentions of leading the way forward as a red donor prospect for us. We want you to know we didn’t hold back and are offering our very best for this celebration of Ultra being in Simmentals for 30+ years. We believe this female will speak for herself when you see her in flesh. Starting off with her dark red pigment, long stylish front end, extra rib shape and setting in an udder that look’s exceptional with tiny teats. Don’t hold back here on a female that can excel a program to new heights!
I’ll sound like a broken record I’m sure by the time you read through these footnotes or if you read them but I’m proud of this offering as we have brought forth our very best-bred females and our best group of red breds we’ve ever raised. Cottonball 5M is once again a neat breeding piece as herself & her sister 36M are the first two red Cottonball’s we’ve produced. Two females that type extremely close to each other. Her dam is a maternal sister to TOMMY GUNN 32L and smoked it out of the park with this powerful dark red Slider daughter. Heavy haired, loads of length, frame and overall mass, this female brings a lot to the table! Some days it’s a tossup between 36M and 5M which we favor more, and it is tough to let them both go but two females we think will enhance the programs they find their way to. Her dam was purchased from the legendary LaBatte Simmentals in 2019 and if you look into her pedigree you will find she’s a daughter from their ‘pick of the R Plus Females’ cow that is supported by some maternal giants in the breed! This will be the last opportunity to purchase PR Man daughters as we lost him last summer unexpectedly. Wanda 180M comes from a high-performance cow family that has become a household name around here on the red side of things. They’re loaded with power, known for their massive rib shape, easy fleshing, functional udders and always out produce themselves. This might not be a female that you throw a halter on and head to town with to try and get to the “Backdrop” with but one that is going to raise those highly sought after red bulls that are loose hided and pound the scales down!

As like any operation, we all strive to build long standing cow families. The Wanda Cow family is one we greatly admire around here. 43M is a great representation of what consistency in a cow family can achieve. This female is possibly the stoutest bred in the offering! She’s got that big bold blaze face with powerful cow presence! A female that is very versatile, with a different twist in pedigree! At breeding time last spring, we all agreed before knowing we would be having a female sale that we all loved 43M. When she came through the chute, we all had the same thought that “next spring we should plan to have her in the flush pen” and while we won’t have this opportunity now, we have a strong feeling wherever she ends up that she will still make her way to the flush pen. Study this one close if you’re searching for a red blaze faced female that could become your next standout female!

We purchased the lead off calve ease bull out of the longstanding Double Bar D program this past spring and put him to work early so expect a Christmas baby from this girl! Here is one of two females from the “Honey” cow family. We admire this cow family for their udder quality and easy fleshing. 57M has a high maternal profile just as her dam and grandam do. Her dam 45G is a direct daughter of the maternal giant Spring Creek Liner 56U. In my mind he is amongst some of the greatest Simmental bulls in the breed. He bred consistent females that were ideal for the industry, and feel they are timeless. Bred up early to KWA Slider, who is now deceased and semen being of high value, expect a quick ROI!

MS Sheriff 144M is an absolute powerhouse red blaze faced Apollo daughter! First thoughts that come to mind when we see this heifer is wow, she’s going to raise some herd bulls! Largest framed heifer in the offering that’s going to go out and work hard. Her dam was purchased from the prominent Bonchuk Farms as a bred through their fall bred heifer sale and has been a great asset here. Button 27M has been a favorite of many visitors throughout the summer and rightfully so! So much power and elegance in a neat dark red package. A pedigree as strong as we can make one, backed by our whole program. We hold this female in high regards. Adding to the maternal strength she already has, she’s bred to the Sonny bull that’s a direct son of HLTS SAMMIE, a cow that you could go on about all day long that has made a huge impact on the breed.
