Ultra Livestock has been an active breeder of black Simmentals since early 1990, striving to produce a functional cow that will produce purebred and commercial bulls to enhance programs. We put our pairs out on native and tame pasture prior to weaning with no creep feed. Weaned September 14th, the bulls were fed a total mixed ration (half oats and half Wetaskawin co-op bull ration added to silage and hay). We have selected bloodlines for temperament, soundness, easy-doing, fleshability and longevity. We have easy calving bulls on offer as well. Sales offerings are from a large group of embryo transplants as well as AI bulls by popular sires in the breed that we confidently predict will create breed enhancement genetics. All of our bulls are tested Homo Polled and Homo Black.

We have been marketing Simmental bulls for 20 years, for 14 of those years, we have enjoyed selling with the Chalack family. Our situations are similar being family oriented with the next generation eager to be more involved in the day to day operations and decision making. It is very rewarding for Gwen and I to have AJ and Andrew taking on bigger roles and generating some exciting new ideas!

Year after year we strive to improve our bull quality to assist our customers in moving their programs forward and ultimately putting more dollars in their pockets. This year we have established a new feed regime – our bulls are still developed in the same large, open pen but are now fed a mixture of cereal silage and free choice hay in addition to being bucket fed the Country Junction Rightway bull ration. We feel our bulls are athletic and free moving while carrying just the right amount of cover to enable them to be ready to go right to work and get your cows bred! We are proud to lead the group out with four brothers that are uniform and powerful. They display that extra length and muscle pattern we all look for in herd bulls. These boys are thick-haired, docile and all come complete with big scrotal development. We are excited to see what these four brothers will go out and produce. We purchased IPU EL Tigress 113B from Labatte Simmentals as their lead off female in the fall of 2015 for $30,000! As one of our lead donors, we did a flush to CMS Poker Rally, past high seller for Czech Mate Simmentals, and Ultra MR. Combustible 27C that sold to Regan Shlacter for $50,000! This flush resulted in these four brothers as well as six sisters. One of the sisters sold to Mader Ranches out of Friday Night Lights sale, which we’d like to mention a big thank you for their support in our program! Lot 5 & 6 are brothers by our lead off donor IPU 113B, they follow with the four other maternal brothers in the sale. Although a little younger aged, don’t let these two fool you, they have just enough growth and power with that same heavy hair coat and sound structure as their brothers. Both would add lots of rib and share their smooth design into your cowherd. We did a second flush on IPU 113B to one of the high selling Simmental bulls to sell in 2016, Wheatland Kill Switch! He is a very powerful individual that has big scrotal and heavy muscle. This flush resulted in two heifers and two bulls, (both heifers are among the top replacement females in our pen). In addition two embryo packages were sold for $2200 per embryo. Take a close look here at these two unique bulls that will produce progeny with extra style and length! Our lead off bull is a maternal brother to Empire, the bull that Jean Francois Leblond purchased from us 2 years ago for $42,000 who has done great things in both our herds. We had two popular Empire heifers sell to Diamond K at Friday Night Lights in December for $15,500 and $7,500 respectively. The one very good constant with Empire and Frontier, is their amazing dam, Heirloom 112Y! She is our best cow, she really is a beauty with so much capacity, near perfect udder, big foot and strong leg structure. Quite frankly, she has never missed and was recently selected to be flushed for Australia. Frontier himself is a quality bull but a little different in his makeup compared to Empire. He will provide decent calving ease with more than adequate performance. He has plenty of rib shape, impeccable phenotype, with large testicles and carries himself very well. Frontier is great haired with that desirable dark red color. We really appreciate this bull, and even though we will continue to use his brother Empire in our herd, we recognize the qualities of Frontier and will be drawing in herd semen to implement his desirable traits on our cowherd.

Altuve, like his name sake, could be an “all star”, but in the heifer pen not on the ball diamond. His very nice dam is a full sister to Lot 32 and reminds us a lot of her awesome mother 202S. Altuve has great calving ease numbers with a 90 lb BW, he came seven days early and has a +10.2 CE EPD (top 15%) with a +1.5 BW (top 20%). He also has that dark red, great hair coat and large testicles. Cardinal is sired by a flush mate brother to the Soda Pop heifers, CMS Poker Rally. Hwy 21 Feeders bought him a couple of years ago and we were able to use him to clean up our yearlings that spring and we sure do like the results. All of the calves born here from Poker Rally arrived easily and early. Cardinal himself was a full 10 days early in his Dam of lot 34 gestation, he had a nice 90 lb birth weight and comes with breed leading BW and CE EPD’s. Garcia is a very round muscled, moderate framed bull, but what he lacks in frame size he makes up for in libido, he looks like he would be an aggressive breeder. Jason 713E, named after Friday the 13th’s Jason Vorhees as he was the 13th calf, born on Friday the 13th, and is another in the long line of bulls from the great GGL 313K cow and the now legendary Drake Poker Face bull. Many sons of each have passed through our bull sales over the years with great success, and sisters have gone on to be cornerstones of some of the best herds in the breed. Most recently, we sold a full brother last year to Sevcik Simmental Ranch for $7,000. Jason follows a similar type to that full brother; long bodied, clean fronted, with good capacity and hair coat. His dam in an older herd matron who has put many bulls through our sales and her heifers have always been easy to market at various sales. One daughter that we kept raised the good IPU Specialist son that Trevor Ulry purchased who sired our lot 46 bull. 718E comes with some very interesting genetics, his paternal grandmother is part of the great Ebony’s Joy family, and his dam is a direct daughter of Jalapeno. Here is a bull with a good combination of EPD’s! His CE and BW numbers are very good at +11.9 (top 10%) and +2.2 (top 25%) along with his WWT of +72.3 and YWT at +104.2. The sire Black Hawk we used regularly to breed heifers to without worry and his dam JJJH 201W is a very good Red Baron cow we selected from the Majestic dispersal. Boeing is smooth and correct in his pattern with ample muscle expression and shape. I’m not saying Boeing is a heifer bull candidate, but he should sire calves that arrive fairly easy and get up and grow. Dam of lot 44

Our last Black Hawk son, Pirate is the largest and highest performing of all the brothers which likely comes from his very good MRL Walk the Line sired dam. We have a daughter in our herd and other heifers have sold through our female sales. Pirate is as long as a train and is a well made bull that has a good balance of muscle, frame and performance, who weighs up well. Our last bull this year is a super, eye appealing ¾ blood. His dam is one of our two WAGR Driver daughters that are just outstanding females. We bought a real good Angus cow 5 years ago from MWC and flushed her to Driver to try and create something new. Raven’s sire is the CMS Epic bull that the Ulry’s from Sundre bought two years back, we were able to use him prior to delivering him and both Trevor and ourselves like the results from Epic. Raven should be a good heifer bull candidate with his birth weight of 89 lbs and his EPD numbers along with his sleek shoulders and tidy makeup, also his paternal grand sire is the IPU Specialist bull we owned that was well known for his ease of calving!
