The bulls are driven towards today’s commercial industry being loose made, high performing beef bulls with calving ease built in. Both programs do a great job feeding these bulls with longevity and athleticism at the forefront of their objective. These bulls are designed to sire a uniform set of calves that come easy, grow and look good while doing so. The chance to come in a purchase many half and 3/4 brothers and in many cases full ET brothers is truly exciting and we know you’ll be impressed with the cattle no matter flavour you desire. JAYDAWN FARMS

Welcome from JayDawn Farms Welcome from JayDawn Farms

On behalf of JayDawn Farms I would like to personally welcome you to the 21st annual Northern Classic Bull sale to be held at Evergreen Park in Grande Prairie March 8th at 1 pm in the Drysdale building. The cattle will be available for viewing starting Wednesday evening March 6th prior to the sale at Evergreen Park or anytime at the farm leading up to the sale, just give us a call and you are welcome to come view them in their pen at any time. We are honored to have the following sale staff that is available to help you in a confidential manner with bidding if you cannot make the sale or need assistance. Darryl & Riley with Bohrson Marketing, Yancy & Jason & Trapper from VJV Auctions and Marty with North Central Livestock Exchange. Again we will be offering online bidding thru DLMS, videos of the bulls will be posted on Cattlevids.com prior to the sale. It really is hard to believe that another year has come and gone, they always say the older you get faster time flies something a person sure did not consider as a teenager or young adult. But here we are prepping for another bull sale, as usual things are super busy around the farm. Like most areas 2023 had its ups and down here in the Peace Country. Hot dry weather early in the year took its toll on the hay and pastureland making it difficult for a lot of operations to find and secure enough feed. Grasshoppers decimated anything that was left. With timely rains we seen the best crops ever for harvest and really good silage crops so those who put up silage like ourselves were some of the lucky ones able to secure the winters needed feed. The cattle market really took an upswing in 2023 paying producers top dollars for all classes of cattle. Strong prices have stayed strong and the futures look really good for cattle producers over the next few years. For those that toughed it out they will finally be rewarded for all their hard work. We currently are calving out about 230 cows this year of Red, black & Fullblood Simmentals, our Charolais herd has increased in numbers due to embryo work and thanks to BOB’s Charolais for supplying us with an excellent group of cows that met all of our expectations far as calving ease, performance, maternal and most of all excellent dispositions, so thank you Bob! We also run a group of commercial cows in which we use as receips for our embryo program and then cross breed the Simmental & Charolais genetics to give us those sought after buckskin calves that top the market. This years bull pen I feel is strong as every ever, there is a real good selection of bulls to meet just about everyone’s needs. We have calving ease, performance driven and bulls that excel maternally or a combination of all these put together for you to select from. The bulls are pastured on their mothers till mid September then we introduce a creep ration when the grass gets low and will keep them on this thru weaning till end of October. We then switch the bulls to a TMR silage ration of Oats and Barley silage along with rolled barley and this year we used the Bullseye Supplement to balance the nutritional needs and vitamin package. The ration we have these bulls on allows for proper growth development and longevity of the animal. One thing for sure you won’t find that these bulls have not been pushed and don’t that “Greasy” appearance to them that a lot of the sale bulls have. They should be able to go out and get breeding as soon as you need them. You will find the dispositions on our bulls really good as we cull extensively for bad dispositions, we are a completely hands on operation with the cattle so good natured animals is a must. Our sale offers a unique payment plan option of ½ down sale day with the other ½ due Nov 1, 2024 interest free with a post dated cheque, free delivery in the Peace County. Our JayDawn bulls carry the Guarantee if your not happy then neither are we call us up if there is a problem and we will get it resolved, we also carry spare bulls at home to help out if a wreck happens to make sure your cows get bred. We are very thankful for our family, as we see our kids raising our grandkids it makes us proud parents knowing that we must have something right all those years, and we know that the upbringing on the farm molded them somewhat along the way. Country farm raised kids are some of the best out there, our kids still come help us when needed which we are very thankful for. Mom continues to live on the farm and is doing well, she still grows her big garden and feeds and waters those 20 wild cats everyday even when it super cold outside…she cooks for us when we have those long harvest or cattle days and its so much appreciated so thankyou Mom. We live in a community of great neighbours who sometimes we have to call for assistance to help out getting the work done and we are so thankful to them as well. Ourselves along with our good friends from the Klassen crew would personally like to invite you to the 21st Northern Classic bull sale on March 8th down at Evergreen Park in Grande Prairie to start at 1pm, if you can not make the sale you can view and bid online thru DLMS.ca or call one of the sale staff or anyone listed in the catalogue for assistance. We hope to see you at the sale!

Here is an own son of the great Pepsi 61U cow that has had such a huge impact on the Simmental breed. Look through the pedigrees and you will see many of the great herdsires stem back to this cow. Harvie Ranching partnered up with us on this great female and did a great job promoting her to the Simmental industry. Her first calf Harvie JDF Wallbanger 111X sold for ½ interest for 45,000 to Robb Farms, Wallbanger one of Pepsi’s notable son sired one of the breeds best Captain Morgan who is still heavily used in many herds. This was the last embryo that we had in the tank and truthfully we were hoping for a heifer from this great matriarch. 5L was super hard to picture and needs to be seen in the flesh to really appreciate him for the bull that he is. He is so long and very smooth made, yet when you get in behind him he has a big square hip. This bull gets out and moves so freely for a bull of his size and mass. The breed has lost a lot of frame and length which in the end equates to loss of pounds. This bull brings back some frame and length without sacrificing overall easy doing ability. This bull would be an asset to any purebred or commercial operation and will sire those long made calves that will crush the scales down at weaning. Pictured below is some of the great bulls that the Pepsi cow has produced for us and Harvie Ranching.

53K has been a pen favorite right from day one, another bull that was tough to picture due to his docile nature and wouldn’t lift his head for the camera. He is super soft made with a ton of middle to him, lots of natural thickness in this Bentley son. His sire Bentley calves so easy and the calves get up an get going right away, the Bentley females are real easy doing with nice udders and teat placement. 53K’s dam is a big broody Missile daughter with excellent feet is out of the flush cow Zenyetta who always added a ton of performance to her offspring. This bull will work in a ton of different programs and will be real easy to find sale day, a real feature here.

48K is a real long smooth made bull out of the great Bentley bull, Bentley worked so well for us leaving us with calves that were born super easy and grew excellent. Check out this bulls EPD’s for weaning and yearling weight, he ranks in the top 2% for weaning and the top 3% for yearling weights within the breed. This bulls dam is a larger framed cow that has a ton of milk with a real good udder, this cow family has all had really good feet. The Bentley sons will leave you with a tremendous set of calves that will top the market and leave you with some awesome replacement females.

Here is a real light birth weight bull born at just 78 lbs and if he wasn’t related to so much on the farm he may have just stayed to work in our heifer pen or on the second calvers. His dam’s seems to throw light birth weights so far, she has a perfect udder with really nice small teats and is a heavy milker. This bull started out small and weaned off at 805 lbs. He is really smooth made with a really nice small head and is super nice fronted, he will be a real easy calver. This black baldie is very complete and may just be that calving ease bull that your looking for.

16L is a true power bull, you will quickly find him in the pen. This bull is super long made and is very thick over the top. He has a ton of natural muscling to him and is all bull. The Game Face calves have a ton of performance to them, we were really happy with the way he produced that we used again and have more on the ground this year. 16L’s dam is a heavy milking moderate made female that brings in the heavy weights every fall. 16L is very similar made to the Bentley bull out of this cow that sold to Pearcyview Farms in our 2022 sale. If your looking for a bull to give you extra performance and those black baldie calves then look to 16L, keep all the daughters out of this bull as they will make awesome cows.

Here is a big soggy made bull that has a ton of middle and natural fleshing to him. Not sure where the extra white comes in his pedigree as I go thru it there is mostly black baldies or solid colored animals in his pedigree. The more you analyze this bull the more you will like him. He gets out and moves so freely for a bull of his size. His dam is a very moderate stout made black baldie and she has a ton of milk, she is a direct embryo daughter of the 16X cow that we flushed with great results. Temperaments in this cow family are second to none. This bull will give you a real fancy set of calves to take to town in the fall and replacements that you will be proud to put back into your herd.

These Game Face bulls are a real consistent group of bulls. All very similar in type and build, 11L is super long made with some extra frame and has the typical wide back and extra muscling like all the Game Face bulls. This bull is out of 328A a cow that has been a no miss female for us, she has a really nice udder with small teats and consistently calves early each year and brings in a top calf every year. She too has extra frame yet is very deep sided with a big barrel to her. The Fortune cow family are really good cows and are some of our top producers.

Here is a real nice made Game Face son that is very complete in his makeup. Super long and smooth made with a real nice head and front end on this bull. This red bull is the result of a very successful flush that we did on the 502R Rebecca cow, the mating to Red Mountain has been a huge success for us giving us both excellent bulls and females. All have been solid colored and dark red, they are born very easy and have lots of performance to them. We have full sisters in the herd working to this mating and they have been excellent cows with really good feet and udders. Full brothers have sold to some of the best ranches in the Peace Country J Lazy A Ranch 2015, Rycroft Cattle Co 2016, Nicklason Stock Farms 2017, Dan & Kerry Lange 2017 and Neil Vance 2018. 502R was a really good cow with excellent feet and udder right up to when we sold her due to old age. 1L is long and smooth made with that dark red hair coat. You won’t have any troubles finding these Red Future sons in the pen, 52L is a very complete dark red individual. He is long and smooth made with a ton of hair. We used the Future bull on our red heifers and we were very happy with the results, a calving ease bull with some extra performance to them. Both the bull and heifer calves made the replacement pens. They grew extremely well weighing right up there with the mature cows calves last fall. This bull would work excellent on a set of 2nd calvers giving you that extra calving ease without sacrificing the performance on the calves in the fall. What a cool bull to start off the Night Hawk sons with. This bull will grab your attention with his color pattern right off the hop. You will really appreciate the depth of body and his natural sogginess that he has. This bull is chalked right full of natural muscling and is so easy doing. Started off at just 75 lbs and weaned off at 785 lbs, pretty darn good for a first calver. His dam is a really heavy milking Bentley daughter, she bred right back to calve again in January. Longevity backs this lineage with the 425B cow still in production and the 70X cow was as well till last fall when we had to sell her due to hip injury. Perfect feet and perfect udders with really nice teat placement in this Bobby Sox lineage. The Night Hawk 40G bull has been one of the best heifer bulls that we have ever used, easy calving, grow extremely well and have a ton of hair. You will have some fun sorting thru this group of Night Hawk sons as there is many pen favorites in this group.

He has a ton of hair and a gentle disposition. Check out his pedigree his dam is sired by our Fleck walking bull Treasure Island giving this bull a little different twist on the black pedigree. Any one of these Night Hawk sons could have been featured or could have started out this group of bulls. Here is another super long made calving ease bull with a little extra substance to him. Again started out at 90 lbs unassisted to a first calver and never looked back. His dam another Bentley daughter that is moderate made with a really nice udder that stems back to a fullblood cow from Four L Simmentals way back in her pedigree. This bull would work excellent on a group of 2nd calvers giving you top notch calves that you will be very happy with.

When we talk about calving ease without sacrificing performance check out this bulls numbers, born at 78 lbs and weaned off a first calver at 830 lbs it don’t get much better than that. His dam bred back and calved in January with another bull. This cow family is one of our best she stems back to the 61R cow who is the mother of the great Pepsi cow. It gets really tough on which bull to start off a sire group, 26L could have been the lead off as well. Again take a look at the numbers on this bull, 80 lb birth weight unassisted, 800 lb weaning weight off a first calver. You see why I like the Night Hawk 40G bull so much, it just plain works for us here at JayDawn. These Night Hawk sons are built right, long and smooth made with that calving ease look with a nice small heads. 26L is from the Fortune cow family that is maternally driven with really good feet and udders, they are very fertile and always bring in the top calves each fall, 122J is carrying on that tradition a really nice Bentley first calver that did an extremely good job on her first go.

What a tank this bull is, he just keeps getting better and better with age. Super deep sided and stout made this future herdsire has a lot to add to the cattle industry. He is long made and when you get behind him he is very stout made. The 519C cow is a real asset to us, she has produced 11 sons who have averaged $8,100 and has 7 daughters in the herd. You may have remembered from last years sale she had 10 Full Brothers sired by NationWide that were just like peas in a pod and averaged $8,275. The old 117M dam of 519C was also in our donor pen and left us 12 females to put back in the herd and 15 sons that averaged $6,300 this cow family has been so productive for us here at JayDawn.

Here is a light tan colored Bourban son that is really long and smooth made. Light birth weight on this bull of 88 lbs from a 1500 lb cow. She too is light tan with brown pigment on her udder, she is a heavy milking female. She is actually a female that came to us as an embryo purchase from the excellent Charolais option of Harvie Ranching. This bull has a very quiet disposition and easy to be around. He will put some stretch in your calves and dollars in your pocket.

Here is the longest and the bull with the most stretch in the Charolais group. Moderate birth weight with an excellent weaning weight of 930 lbs. This bull is out of a Fairytale cow who is a direct daughter of the old 117M Flush cow that had a huge impact on our herd. If your looking to put some stretch in your calves then this bull would be an excellent candidate. Those long made calves add another 100 lbs on the scale which means more dollars in your pocket.

Here is a Bourban son that is a twin to the 8L bull listed earlier in the catalogue. Again another long smooth made son of Bourban and out of a French bred Charolais female that has been a stellar producer for us. She is super fertile and always calves in the first go, much like his brother he has some extra muscle shape to him that comes from the French breeding. Super long made with natural muscling just think of the group of calves this guy will sire.

JAYDAWN FARMS

Here is a super long made bull out of the Heavy Duty bull that has worked so well here and for Bob Charolais. He started off at a moderate 94 lbs and weaned off at 855Lbs from a smaller moderate framed female that did any outstanding job on her second go. This bull was just about as big as her frame wise last fall when we weaned him. 72H has a nice tidy udder with perfect teat size and placement and showing how she can produce she will be around for the long haul. 58L gets out and moves so freely for a bull of his size and length, he will get the cows covered. He will sire those long made calves that are born easy and will weigh up extremely well come fall. Good haired Buckskin calves are worth an extra dime at the market and 58L will get you there.

Heavy Duty worked extremely well on the 2nd calvers, still giving some calving ease while producing calves that had some extra performance to them. Born easy and weigh up in the fall isn’t this what this business is all about. 15L is one of my favorite Heavy Duty sons, extremely long and smooth made with lots of hair. He is really nice fronted and will calve extremely well. His dam is another hard working 2nd calver that proved that she can produce with the mature cows. These Heavy Duty sons will work on a variety of cows that will increase your pay weights come fall.

Heavy Duty sure put his stamp on his calves, they are born easy and grow really well. 102L is super long made and smooth from front to back. The extra length in these bulls will transmit into extra pounds on the calves come fall those larger framed buckskin cattle always top the market.

Whether you want to use this Char bull to sire you those buckskin calves to take to town or to sire you a excellent group of Char replacement heifers this bull will get the job done.

His dam is a large volume really put together nice made female with a really nice udder and lots of milk, she is one of my favorites and knows how to produce. She had a bull sell thru this sale last year to the excellent cattle operation down in Barrhead that’s owned by John Schmidt a long time supporter of our sale. Here is a very complete made bull, he is moderate and stout made with a ton of hair. This bull is very correct in his makeup. Sired by the Defender bull that comes out of the HTA program in Manitoba that has been a solid herdbull for BOB Charolais, the daughters of Defender are really good young cows with lots of milk. 85L’s dam is a bigger framed made female that is very complete in her makeup. Don’t overlook this bull due to weaning weight being a little less no fault of his own the cow ended up getting mastitis so her milk production was cut in half. WILLOW CREEK SIMMENTALS

Welcome from Willow Creek Simmentals Welcome to the 21st annual Northern Classic bull sale. Once again we are proud to have teamed up with the McQuaig family to bring you this exciting event for anyone in the cattle industry. It seems like years have flown by from that first year we joined the Northern Classic and feel like our program has made leaps and bounds since that first sale, but the one thing that remains true is our dedication to you the customer, and trying to present to you the very best product we can in terms of bulls that are excellent footed, have enough performance to improve your bottom line and the maternal strengths to help move your program forward in terms of the momma cow; being a worry free, good footed, excellent uddered and highly productive. We believe to be successful and know we are doing our job properly is to have you the customer, be increasing your quality and bottom line year after year with the use of our bulls. Thats what really drives us and satisfies us as producers. This past year was a definitely one filled of ups and downs. It started out in the spring so dry and many people including us faced the worry and reality of forest fires, with many in all areas of the Peace Country and included some even evacuating cattle. This was very close to us as we had to help Kyle and Ashley even evacuate there cow and horse herd back to our place as the Sturgeon Lake fire approached but thankfully everything worked out in the end. Fire season here quickly ended here with some good rains in early June and fortunately for us we received enough moisture actually have bumper cereal crops and put up a little extra silage which we were very excited for. I can officially say we experienced the “seed in the dust and the bins will bust” wise tail. But I know that those rains were very hit and miss through out the Peace and really effected everyone differently. One thing that really kept the optimism up in the cattle industry though was the record high calf prices this past fall. Its been a really long time coming to finally see these prices we really deserve for all the work and effort we put in to the cattle industry and even with these record prices sometimes doesn’t seem like its still enough but i truly do believe we have a few more good years ahead as the whole cattle herd numbers across North America are down. The next 3-5 years i think should follow suite. One thing that was quite noticeable was the premium on the heavy steers, it definitely pays to have the extra pounds on your calves as we don’t see the fluctuation in prices near as much as we did a few years ago from the light to heavy weights steers. I’m sure people laugh at me when i say year after year that this is the best pen of bulls we have ever raised but this 2024 sale pen of bulls is truly impressive and by far the best, and most consistent group we have put together. But to me that just goes to show the work were putting in to improve the cow herd and its consistency and in all honesty if you are doing the work and homework when it comes to our embryo, and Ai programs and getting out on the road to find god walking herd bulls that your calf crop should be improving each year and taking that next step forward to improve our bottoms lines. In doing this like i previously stated it will improve your bottom line and that’s what we really strive for. This years bull pen features an exceptional group of bulls off our powerful MAF 167C donor cow, a few new sire groups in Walk this Way and Connected, and then the ever so popular Popeye sire group who truly does seem to out do himself year after year. We also have the first group of Launch sons which are going to really sire some outstanding females. New this year is a pair of really powerful SimAngus bulls that will surely impress, and a pair of black angus bulls out of our newly formed angus division. We feel our entire offering is extremely sound made in there structure, good footed bulls that are all backed by good solid cows. This pen of bulls is as stout and heavy muscled of a group as we have put together which really shows in the weaning and yearling weights. These are the type of bulls that will make you money on them heavy weight steers come fall. As always we would love to show you the cow herd and bulls in there natural state here at home. For us its always extremely important to go to the farms and see the program you are buying from and the cows behind the bulls and for us we would be proud to show off the mothers to these bulls to you.

Dawsyn Rayelle Klassen

This year again the bulls are on a total TMR ration consisting on the Country Junction rite way bull ration, a oat/barley mix silage and chopped hay. This feed program has really worked for us to promote the lean muscle growth and improve gut health, which we have been really happy with as we have seen many of these bulls down the road not melting off and converting to different environments with ease. The bulls are developed in there large 10 acre pen where they are fed on one side and water is on the other to keep them moving and traveling every day. To us this exercise is really important to keep the bulls fresh and moving with ease. The coffee is always on, especially now that dad is retired; he’s always around and up for a tour. We are excited to see what bull sale season brings this year and are equally as excited to see all past and new buyers come sale day. If you cant make it we will have the Bohrson Marketing crew there along with DLMS for online bidding. We hope to see you all in Grande Prairie March 8th and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out to us. PAGE 35

Certified has definitely stood out from an early age. Right from a week old he has show added muscle shape and performance. I am not sure we have had a bull that is this stout hipped and carries it so deep down into his leg. Everything about this bull is massive, tons of rib shape and softness, huge topped, thick haircoat and already showing big nutted. He is slightly more moderate in stature but doesn’t show it as he still crushed the scale to 1505lbs at a year of age. Everyone says we need frame to get added weight to these steers, but we also need capacity to them that really adds pay weight. Certified 1L progeny are going to push down the scales, I have no doubt about that. Certified 1L has been shown successfully being named Reserve Champion bull at the Dawson Fall Fair as well as Reserve Champion Cattlemen’s choice bull at the PCBC. We could go on all day at the quality of this flush from MAF 167C. Bulls and heifers have stood right at the very top of the respective pens. My best suggestion would be to come tour and see for yourself, this would also allow you to see her impressive Captain Morgan bull calf at side again to.

Another heavy muscled flush mate in this powerful group of Walk this Way bulls. The most moderate framed of the 4 sons of MAF 167C, but he makes up for it in rib shape. You will notice the foot quality again on this bull that just resonates through all these 167C progeny. His sire Mader Walk this Way is a new sire we have used but certainly has been one of the best bulls in the entire Simmental industry the past 5 years, and we feel they will impress come sale day. One this we have really liked is the thick haircoats that Walk this Way has put on all his calves here.

This is an exciting opportunity to evaluate a big time herdsire prospect. Walking Tall 120L is exactly what we strive for with our breeding program; a bull with a little more frame, that’s extremely long bodied and really stout hipped, yet remains soft made and deep ribbed. Probably the attribute that attracts us to him the most is just how incredibly sound structured he is on a big square foot with added heel. They say every great herd sire needs an even better mother cow behind him; certainly, rings true here as MAF 167C was our pick of the Meadow Acres dispersal and she hasn’t disappointed yet. Our best-bred heifer this fall and now into calving season is a daughter by SVS Rancher that’s equally as impressive. The added bonus is the proven cow family you get in Pashmenia. Walking Tall 120L was our leadoff bull in the Champion Pen of 3 bulls at the Peace Country Beef Congress. There has been many discussions around whether we should be keeping 120L to be Popeyes replacement but we have decided to offer him to the industry and we plan to draw semen on him and utilize him heavily in our Ai program. This is the real deal and one that we feel is well worth the drive to Grande Prairie for.

This would be the natural calf off of 167C, sired by none other then Popeye. Over the past 3 years i don’t think we have used a bull that has been in such high demand from the commercial customers as Popeye. Year after year they rise to the top for there incredibly thick make, width over there tops and as always the foot quality that Popeye puts on all his progeny. 167L has a little less birthweight than his brothers, but has certainly kept up on the performance end of it. I would argue this may be the best footed bull in the entire pen after running them through the barn clipping its hard not to notice the foot quality. He as didn’t want to cooperate on picture day as we feel his picture doesn’t do him justice to what kind of bull he really is an just really shows the quality of 167C and how she works with any bull. If you want to add consistency to your program add a few of these brothers, you won’t be disappointed.

WILLOW CREEK SIMMENTALS

The powerhouse black bulls just keep on coming this year! I think this guy is easily the longest spined bull in the entire offering, he also comes with added frame. This is just what everyone is asking for. We really seen this fall that pounds pay with record setting calf prices. So I would recommend putting a few check marks by 10L, he’s the type of bull that adds pounds to your bottom line. But he’s not just a one trick pony, he’s backed by one of the most powerful black cows on the farm in a powerhouse Captain Morgan cow. The Walk this Way cross on Captain Morgan cows is one of the most proven mating’s. It won’t take long to find this guy sale day.

Throughout the industry many breeders have used Walk this Way in the heifer pen. Most our bulls off him came with some jam, but I do think 42L is a candidate for the heifer pen as he has a lot of extension through his front third, a nice small head and an ideal bone structure. His mother, who happens to be one of the very top Popeye daughters, also has a track record of having small calves at birth to. Like all Walk This Way calves, 42L has a really thick hair coat, good testicle development and is legit quiet as a pup as you can see by his picture, he would not lift his head properly. Calving ease, docility and adequate performance, backed by a great cow.

Over the past few years Crossroad Connected has created some excitement being a Homo Polled black baldy that is part fullblood and adding some ruggedness back to these black cattle. We have been quite impressed and even bought a Connected son last spring. 60K is a moderate made bull that is very long made and has an attractive presence to him. Like the Connected he has a thick wavy hair coat, and tons of muscle shape. The 60F cow has as good of feet and udder as we have in our cow herd, which is impressive. She has knocked it out of the park on production to with a son we sold to Sorenson Cattle Co and retained for our heifer pen named Protocol, a son to Connor Kocsis and a feature bred heifer this past fall to Albrecht Farms. This is an ideal bull if you have some young cows that need breeding.

The real hairy Connected son would probably be the largest framed black bull in this years offering. 406L is a real deep sided bull that is long spined and has an excellent set of feet under him. Also pretty hard not to get attracted to that perfect blaze face. His mother has been a great producer for us since we acquired her from the Twin Brae dispersal, send the high selling bull a few years ago to DMS Ranch in Vanderhoof BC, as well as other good sons to Lee Stevenson, and Jason Langes good programs. Everyone says the industry needs more frame and length in cattle, this guy will do it.

The lone son off the calving ease sensation KWA Slider. You definitely have no worries when you have your heifers bred Slider, they are born very easily and have a ton of vigor. 39L is a deep bodied, really hairy made bull that’s going to calve easy yet still give you a good calf come fall as you can see by his 850lbs weaning weight early September off a first calf heifer. 39L also boasts an impressive EPD profile as well.

Here’s Black Rifles brother. Many will remember Black Rifle leading off and topping the Northern Classic last spring to Champ Simmentals at $15,000. This 33G is an absolute rockstar and certainly making a case to be a future donor with this type of production. The foot and udder quality on 33G is second to none and another reason i truly believe she could enter the donor pen in the future. 33L is a extremely long spined bull that has a proud presence, wide topped, super hairy and has the classic stout Popeye rump we’ve come used to expecting on Popeye progeny. It does not get any more proven of a cross then 33L when you consider what 33G has did with Popeye. Udder and foot quality runs deep in this pedigree, making 33L a slam dunk choice for any rancher looking to improve his cowherd. 33L is the final member of the Champion Pen of 3 at PCBC in what we thought was as good of a pen as we have ever put together. Over the past 4 years there may not be a sire we’ve used in higher demand then these Popeyes. They are gaining more and more traction with every sale and i feel this year will be no different. 5L is a big framed, long bodied bull that’s super stout and wide over the top. No surprise he’s a Popeye x Lotto which is as good of a cross as we’ve ever had, they just don’t miss. Popeye sired cattle are as sound structured and good footed as we have ever used on a sire and 5L is a testament to that. We have two VERY good red Lotto daughters, 33G and 5H, and these two ¾ sib bulls surely prove that. 5H is a larger framed cow with a picture perfect udder that is proving to be a big time producer with her first son topping our red bulls last spring to Balisky Farms. In a short time she is already framed as one of our very favorite cows on farm. 5L is another member of the Champion Pen of 3 bulls at PCBC. It won’t be hard, but i highly recommend finding 5L say day; he’s the true cattlemen’s kind.

If you want to make females i suggest taking a close look at 57L. His dam is what we feel is an ideal cow, absolutely beautiful udder, big square feet and just has overall mass and middle that we look for. She has a pretty impressive Spring Creek Denali bull calf at side this year that already has a look to him. 57L himself has good frame and rib shape, and without sounding like a broken record on these Popeye sons; he is really good footed. We sold a younger brother to him last spring to the great partnership of Ryan Dyck and Alan Krahn.

This is our first kick at the can on these SimAngus bulls and boy do we have an impressive pair. 358L is a typical Popeye son, great big thick hip, real wide top and has that patented thick straight haircoat Popeye sires. The most impressive part of 358L is his impressive model mother, she is as ideal of a cow that we feel the commercial industry wants. Picture perfect udder, great footed, big ribbed and long made, smooth extended fronted, she is the real deal. The angus portion has added a little more style and presence through the front end on this bull. If you toured our herd, you will see why we are so excited about this cow. Dam: C-358

Definitely a sale feature in this powerful pen of Popeye sons. So much rib shape and boldness, big barreled, wide topped with extra muscle and carries his muscling deep into his leg. 98L is the type of bull that’s easy to sell all day long. When you can get bulls that are so moderate with birthweights yet explode to weaning and do even better on feed like these Popeyes its hard not to use them. 98L is out of a moderate made real deep bodied Missile cow that’s an absolute workhorse when it comes to production. Last year as a first calver she weaned off one of the biggest heifers which was selected for the Ladies of the Peace going to Fallen Timber Farms, then makes an encore with this stout dude. Come sale day this pen of Popeye sons will impress you!

Wow, Wow, Wow! This is one impressive dude. 320L is one of the most impressive bulls in the entire pen and one that makes you truly appreciate best of both worlds on these SimAngus bulls. Sired by the World Champion bull himself; DMM International 54D. When dad seen International at Farmfair he called me almost immediately and said you need to see this bull. He hasn’t disappointed with the few progeny we have on the ground. 320L is mothered by a classic Lotto daughter, exceptional udder quality, great footed and she has a little added size and frame as well. 320L himself has such a cool presence and style to him as he’s always showing off, he has a big sweeping rib cage and plenty of muscle. He is extremely docile as well as he’s a real pet in the pen. I can guarantee he’s going to be one of the talks of the barns come sale day. When pounds pay you need to take advantage of this shear power as he crushed the scale to 940lbs September 5th and continued on to 1460lbs early January. He truly is the real deal.

We feel this is definitely a sale feature and one who’s as tried and tested as it comes. We now have had 4 full sibs to this cross, the first being probably the best “J” model Popeye daughter, last years full sister was a powerhouse selling to Bohrson Marketing at Ladies of the Peace, Lithium 50L and wow you should see his black full brother already this year, he is STOUT. Exceptional foot and udder quality is a guarantee in this cow family as his grand dam 101C has entered our donor pen do to her shear production and the feet and udders she is passing on to all progeny. Lithium 50L was part of our show team making the final drive at the PCBC Cattlemen’s Choice class. He is an attractive fronted, super stout hipped bull that maintains softness and rib shape. You really have to appreciate his structural soundness as you evaluate him more and more. Note he is sired by two black parents making him a non diluter and I would really like to stress he is definitely darker than his picture, it was a really sunny day when we pictured him. There is a lot to like about this bull and we feel he could offer a different twist in pedigree to a lot of mainstream red genetics.

Big time power, big frame, tons of length, big nuts, big feet, everything about him is big! This is the cowboys kind of bull you will want a whole pen of steers off of. We really seen the past few falls how much more you make on the heavy weight calves as we aren’t seeing that price fluctuation from the heavy and light calves as much anymore. 111L is a cherry red bull backed by a cow that has a nice tidy udder and excellent feet. She has been a great producer sending bulls to Shannon Harden and Keith Miller. I can only imagine a set of big dark red steers and heifers off this guy. Even better yet, he’s diluter free, throw him with a pen of black cows.

Another one of these big framed, thick topped bulls out of two black parents making him a non diluter. Kyle made the comment when picturing that he doesn’t think we have had bulls before with as much frame as 53L and 111L do. Staying true to his Popeye sire, he’s stout topped and wide based and boasts the exceptional feet. Popeye sons are so consistent that all these footnotes pretty much read the same. 53L had a full brother two years ago that was very popular selling to Dave Berry in Valleyview. One could argue that the mother of 53L very well could be the nicest uddered cow in our entire herd. Add some pounds to your calf crop and keep every female out of him.

Dark red baldy bull sired by the MRL Playmaker bull we tried out this year as an outcross pedigree to give use some dark red color. 300L is a little more moderate compared to most Playmakers, which could be due to the recip he had. His flushmate sister is a larger framed cherry red blaze face as well that is a standout in the replacement pen. As a whole id say Playmaker will add some frame. 300L is mothered by the old 61A cow who to this day at 11 years of age has picture perfect feet. Some of our best young red cows are daughters of 61A, and she has also sent sons to some top repeat customers like Alan Landaker and Randy Pockett.

A real soggy made, dark red Launch son that will be a maternal powerhouse. We have 3 maternal sisters in the herd that all have exceptional udders. His maternal sister Syrup 58F, a past $12,000 Checkers high seller, was just recently purchased back due to her strong udder quality and impressive RWR Elite son she has at side. 38A at 11 yrs old is still producing here and has sent sons already to Fern and Mike Ochrans, and at the Warkentin Ranch here at Debolt. Launch is known across the Simmental industry for his impressive daughters, and i would expect the same from 38L. Keep ever daughter!

I would argue that 113L will be the very best female producing bull out of our entire offering. If you’re in the business of selling replacement heifers or just take pride in having great cows then I think 113L should be considered. His dam is a farm favorite Element daughter that is ideal in all aspects, she has produced two sons to Warkentin Farms, Sawyer really knows the strength of this cow. Note with the shot of Element you get a dose of fullblood in the pedigree. 113L is the pick of the Launch sons this year and is a soft made, deep ribbed bull that is very sound in his foot structure and is packing large testicles. He did test Non Diluter so I would definitely not be afraid to through him in a group of black cows to add the Launch influence.

We have had extremely good luck with the calving ease on Launch, and for the most part they are born small, long and slender. You can see with 22L he has the modest 78lbs birthweight but took off to over 800lbs at weaning. We have seen this a lot on Launch born calves and makes calving season much easier. 22L goes back to the 25Z cow we bought from Maxwells and proved to be one of the top cows on the farm for many years. Launch left us an absolutely impressive set of daughters, and i would guess 22L does the same. Granddam: MMWK Juliet 25C

The youngest Simmental bull on offer. Launch was one of the best footed bulls we have ever laid eyes on, something we strive to replicate. These Launch sons are all following suite on the foot quality. The 94Z cow has left us with 3 really strong daughters in the herd that we rank quite high. 94L is an athletic made bull that will cover a lot of cows and sire steers with some shape and substance. Connection 46K is a super exciting herd sire prospect that will make a lot of friends sale day. I feel he could be the dark red Connected son that the Simmental industry has been looking for. Good framed, soggy made with a really thick wavy haircoat and an abundance of muscle. We truly strive to produce bulls of this quality and structural soundness. He is backed by a highly productive cow family with his fertile grand dam being flushed last spring producing 24 #1 embryos and every daughter in the herd calving first cycle. The 44B cow is now 10 yrs old and still has really good feet under her. We have sold many high sellers through this very sale that all stem to 44B, big time production when you see both grandsons this year as well in 46K and 5L, one of the top Popeye sons. If we didn’t already have Connected son we would have really considered 46K to stay as our next red herdsire. Feet, nuts, muscle shape, hair, style, softness, he has it all. This is a true beef bull the cattle industry needs.

A very interesting dark red calving ease bull that we really admire. You are really attracted to his presence and extension through his front end. 26L is smooth made, has a nice bone size which all leads us to believe he will be a great calving ease bull. Being a KWA Future son it instills the dark red color, large testicle size and explosive growth into this feature bull. Maybe the most exciting part of 26L is the cow family that backs him. Generations of high end udder quality and front pasture females. As you can see in the inset picture his dam is a beautiful dark red baldy females that is large framed, really long made and has that picture perfect udder.

WILLOW CREEK SIMMENTALS

This is a new venture for us as we start into the Black Angus breed. When we started into it we decided the way to do it is find a very good cow from a top cow family to flush and build the herd around. Thats where we found 37B at the Poplar Meadows reduction sale, a daughter of the famed Sooline Lady 9339 cow that has been so renowned in the Angus breed. The year before we bid on many Lady 9339 daughters and struck out where they averaged nearly $15,000. When we saw 37B we felt she was the one, especially after her daughter was one of the high sellers in that sale at $28,000. 37B is a moderate made, really good footed cow that is an absolute tank in terms of mass and capacity. She just calved recently and at 10 years old she has a beautiful udder to. We plan to start flushing her this spring. 37L is a very smooth made, extended fronted bull that has a real calving ease skeletal design. He is a deep sided and large testicled bull that should work wonders in the heifer pen.

This is kind of what we envisioned what we want our angus bulls to look like. Big middled, added style, sound made and easy doing. His Bravo sire is extremely easy doing, maybe the most easy doing animal we have owned. He is siring big ribbed, proud made cattle that are feed efficient and crossing really well on our Simmental cattle. In his first calf crop we have sold commercial open daughter up to $2900, and seen steers wean off as high as 850lbs. We plan to use him a lot more in our commercial program. I really think 49L is going to follow these footsteps. Note his performance as he weighed 1160lbs at just 10.5months old and is pictured here at 11 months. Were excited to offer him as our inaugural black angus offering.
