ver since I purchased my first registered livestock back in the fall of 1981 one of my dreams was to one day host our own bull sale. With the help and mentorship from my parents, the Muller & Jaburek families, that dream became a reality. It’s hard to believe it has been 20 years since we first ventured off with this vision. A huge thanks to Stulberg Simmentals, Echo Valley Ranch, Brock Ranch, JB Livestock & Berkholtz Family Farms, for joining with us on this initial venture. We have obviously seen many changes and going from a joint sale to our own. There has always been a few points that have never changed; the passion for the breed; the drive to always make the next calf crop better; the absolute need for commercial acceptance; and customer satisfaction. Karen and I are excited to have kids that share our goal and our love for agriculture and the industry. I know Anchor D Ranch Simmentals is 35+ years in the breed, but I feel as though our best years are still to come. Welcome to our 20th Annual Bull Sale. In our opinion we have not only produced our strongest set of bulls, they may also be the most diverse group as well. The group presented to you today have undergone a strict culling program, and come from over 400 producing mother cows. We try to seek out industry leading sires that will not only contribute to our herd, as well as add genetic potential to our customer’s herds as well. We are extremely confident we will have a bull to meet your requirements. We have always had a deep rooted connection with the commercial industry, and are always seeking new ways to add value to our customer’s calf crops. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the Anchor D Sired calf sales this past fall. Between the three sales we seen about 2500 Anchor D sired or influenced calves hit the sale ring. 2019 will mark the 6th year we will present these sales at VJV Rimbey, Ponoka & Dawson Creek sale barns the first week of October. Be sure to contact us for more details. It was very obvious again this fall the heavy weight, high performance quality calves demanded the premium, with a premium for elite replacement heifers as well. The need to invest in superior genetics is very evident. The bulls themselves are developed the same way they have been for the past several years. In a large spacious pen with lots of room for proper exercise, and on a TMR ration to develop these bulls to their fullest potential. Huge emphasis is placed on physical soundness, performance, and disposition. A herd bull purchase is a significant investment, and so it should be as they play such a huge role in your bottom line. We don’t just hope they last, we expect them to last, and contribute to your bottom line for many, many years. Every bull in the sale will sell in 100% entirety for you to maximize your potential investment. We are also very honored to be involved with Boehringer-Ingelheim as one of the herds receiving their “Elite” herd health status. All bulls are on a total health program, Express Verified and have all been inspected and semen tested by Gull Lake Veterinary Services in Mid January. Where to begin. “French Attack” has quickly elevated to an elite super power in our bull battery. I really liked his calves last year, and with a year under our belt and learning where he works best, I love his calves this year. His sons average $10,685 for us last year, all going into good commercial herds. “Shazam” who was to be our feature star in last year’s sale, had to be pulled due to injury, and will walk our own pastures now, and was named Reserve Champion bull at last year’s National YCS show. The “French Attack” daughters that sold this past fall averaged just over $17,000. I would say he has made an impact in the industry already. For the most part his sons possess his same laid back attitude, tremendous natural fleshing ability, dark color and pigmentation, strong foot structure, thick hair, exceptional length of spine, large testicles, and overall eye appeal. He will have the largest sire group in this year’s sale.

“Motown” is certainly one of this year’s pen favorites. He is very similar in his entire makeup to his sire. The other thing that makes him extra special is his dam “Precious” that is a cow we cannot say enough good things about. I have always said if when sourcing your next herd bull to be sure he comes from a great cow. “Motown” is from one of the best, combined with his sheer power and phenotype. He has a huge foot, black pigmentation, and great muscle pattern. He is just plain good, and certainly has the potential to be a bull that will contribute great things to your herd.

“Absolution” is another embryo calf from “Precious & French Attack”. His performance mirrors that of his brother “Motown”. He too is heavily pigmented, with a tremendous hair coat and lots of thickness. I really think “Absolution” will mature into a tremendous bull. He may be somewhat in the shadow of his brother, however he has all the same credentials for greatness. Being an embryo calf can be a bit distorting on birth weight. We kept his half-brother, and off of the same recip cow last year with a 115 birth weight. To date his calves are averaging 93 lbs. Don’t be fooled here.

“Rubicon” was one of the pasture favorites all summer long, catching most everyone’s eye. Another very typical “French Attack” son. Heavily pigmented, dark red, heavy muscled, with outstanding foot structure. His dam “Kael” is a female we co-own with Canadian Donors. She was the dam of our second high selling bull last year in “Outlook” who sold to Crossroad Farms & Canadian Sires. She also produced a $10,000 heifer calf selling at FNL Sale to City View Simmentals, SK. “Rubicon” has all the tools to be a great breeding piece.

“Sheamus” is very similar to “Rubicon”, from head to toe. As mentioned prior their dam “Kael” has quickly proven her value. She is an outstanding “Barbossa” daughter, and we are really starting to understand the value of these “Barbossa” daughters in our herd. They have flawless udders, moderately made, easy keeping, and the ability to produce front end contenders. All that plus the ability to moderate birth weights, and many of them carry the polled gene as well. “Sheamus” is another very useful bull for a wide variety of breeding programs.

“Eldor” is the third and final “French Attack x Kael” in this year’s sale. He is a bit different in his profile, tending to show more characteristics of his great great grand dam, “Saphire” who has been our main donor cow for many years. “Eldor” is super thick, extremely wide topped, and as deep sided as they come. This big soggy loose made bull will certainly sire an outstanding group of calves that will be extremely easy keeping and heavy muscled. You can’t help but appreciate his sheer mass and volume. He is an absolute tank.

“Karizma” aka “Pot Attack” has been the go to guy all summer long. Although this is only his dams’ third calf, she has quickly risen to the top of the herd, already producing 2 bulls selling to Mark Undershultz and Diamond Rio Ranch for a $9300 average. “Karizma” has been a favorite of ours from the day he was born, and has continued to develop right on schedule. You have to appreciate his power, and pedigree combined with his performance and moderate birth weight. You can’t make them any darker without being black. I don’t know who the successful bidder will be sale day, but this is a bull I will keep a serious eye on. I see great things in his future.

Our old “Peach” cow is no stranger to putting front end contenders in the pen. She produced our lead off bull 2 years ago, selling to Albert Putz in Iowa, as well as producing my personal favorite “French Attack” heifer calf last year which was retained for our own herd. “Evoque” is definitely a bull that is easy to find in the pen. He is as eye appealing as they come, and I have no doubt in the fact that he will only get stronger with time. Huge potential with “Evoque”, herd bull time.

I am really excited about “Caspian” and what he has to offer. His dam is a “Viper” daughter out of our embryo program, off of “Dulcie”. She was very much an aged cow when we bought her, but she managed to build a strong cow family in a very short period of time here on our place. Also note the extremely moderate birth weight on “Caspian”. I feel as though he will be an extremely versatile bull that you could likely use on cows or heifers. He is registered as polled, as we mark all that information in at birth. You will see he does have a heavy scur. I am sure he will throw his share of polled calves.

We had the misfortune of losing the dam of “Fergus” this fall. I think when you study the pedigree you will agree that there are some very serious maternal qualities stacked up in his pedigree. I honestly would have preferred “Fergus” to have been “Fergie” as I would have dearly loved him to be a heifer. Having said that he has all the qualities to be a great herd bull, and I guess it goes without saying keep as many of his daughters as you possibly can. A grandson of “Antonius” with a shot of “Mitzi” and being a direct son of “French Attack”, yup there is something special here.

You will see there are several “French Attack” sons off of “Barbossa” daughters in this year’s sale. “Galahad” is one of those crosses, and I think you will agree, it is a combination that highlights the best qualities of these two great bulls. The combinations of calving ease combined with growth, completed with strong maternal qualities, ease of fleshing and heavy muscling, incredible foot structure, and built in color and hair pretty well sums up the bulk of the calves from this combination. “Galahad” certainly fits that mold, and will no doubt develop into a great herd bull.

Do not be fooled by the birth weight of “Figaro”. We have never been afraid to offer a few of these larger birth weight calves as long as they are born unassisted, and are built right. We sold a full brother to “Figaro” last year to the Ferrybank Colony. “Figaro” is a carbon copy of him, just that his mother cooked him a few more days than she really needed to. I have always said birth weight is simply a number, and I love the way this bull is built and see no issues with him at all. No don’t use him on your heifers, but throw him in on your mature cows, and reap the rewards when his steer calves hit the sale ring or the feedlot. For dollars invested this will be a great purchase.

“Fenway” is one of this year’s cover boys. I honestly don’t know what you would want to change on him, he is completely balanced, and just plain good. His dam is a picture perfect female, whose own mother is a full sister to the dam of “Aztec”. He is backed by the “Desiree” cow family, who has a large cow family here at our place. “Fenway” is not only bred to be a superior herd bull, he looks the part as well. You have to admire his length of spine how well his shoulder blends in, offering calving ease yet still able to produce power, as well as carrying the polled gene. I am very high on this bull and certainly feel as though he can contribute to the whole industry for years to come.

“Enforcer” is a full brother to last year’s lead off bull “Eisenhower” who sold to South Peace Colony. Their dam is not the prettiest cow in the pen, but she always brings in a monster calf every year. She is a family favorite here due to her incredible nature and her ability to produce the good ones. She definitely makes our short list for one of our top cows. Certainly not the one you would pick out because of her good looks, but she is an absolute work horse. “Enforcer” will be a pure power house that will sire a wicked set of calves.

“Anecdote” is another pen favorite. He is an absolute tank, in a polled package. His great grandmother was a mature cow we purchased from the Arnold Brothers dispersal many years ago. She never entered our donor pen, but in hind sight sure should have. We had 3 direct daughters off of her, and if you study our herd carefully you will see from three daughters, they have expanded into one of our largest cow families. “Ancedote” is a bull that gets picked out time and time again when people tour the pen, and I am super excited to see what he will produce. He is very hard to find a flaw in, and also hard to find a polled bull that matches his natural muscling and thickness. Put a big star by him.

“Fabio” is a super dark red moderate birth weight bull. He had a minor setback after weaning, but has now turned things around, and I would guess by sale time will be on point. Because of this large sire group there will be a few that fly a bit under the radar. I feel as though “Fabio” may be one of those very bulls. Yes he will be a bit overpowered by some of his big brothers, however his genetics certainly indicate he has the credentials to be a good one. He too carries the polled gene, he is heavily scurred but will certainly knock a few horns off and be a calving ease bull to boot.

I really like how this bull has been coming on. He is one of the youngest in this sire group and tracing back to the great old “Lindsay” cow, who was a curve bender herself. She produced as many good ones in her time as any other cow, and her daughter “Tango” has been a super solid producer for us. For the pedigree enthusiasts out there, “Bodacious” is a stud. Being the last catalogued of this years “French Attack” sons, and his dam being a full sister to “Viper” who also boasts having produced our high selling bull in 2017 in “Battalion” selling to Hairy Hill Cattle Co., as well as our high seller in the 2014 bull sale “Gunner” selling to Alta Genetics. “Brekem” is one of the sleepers in the pen in my mind. Not the easiest bull to find in a large pen, but when you find him you can’t help but appreciate him. “Folsom” has been a personal favorite of mine all summer long. This is a massive made bull that weighs like lead. Perhaps the broadest topped bull in the entire pen, extremely capacious, big ¼ and a bull that looks the part 24/7. He’s a stud and he knows it. He goes back to the “Miss Arnold” cow family who has pumped out bulls like “Slam Dunk, Mazorotti, Elton, High Noon, Shanghai Noon” that have made their way into breeders herd, as well as a huge list this year including “Anecdote, High Stakes, Focus, Rizzo, Johnny Ringo, Envious, Belmont & Precisely”. “Fred & Barney” are a pretty cool pair of dudes. A very evenly matched pair from birth on. “Fred” was raised on their own mom, where “Barney” was grafted onto a first calver that lost her calf so likely didn’t have the same groceries all along. They are a very complete pair of bulls from a really beautiful young cow that I am looking forward to seeing what she will do as she enters into her prime. For anyone who runs multiple bulls in a pasture this is an even matched pair and obviously genetically match up so the kind of make sense. For anyone having a hard time telling them apart sale day “Fred” is a bit bigger than “Barney”, seems kinda obvious.

“Ritz” comes from one of our old reliable cows that just delivers the goods time and time again. I can hardly wait to see calves from this guy, the feedlots will be lining up to feed calves like him. “Ritz” exemplifies beef production for me. The perfect size at birth, as far as I’m concerned, to hit the ground running and never look back. Matched by phenomenal performance, and then the structure and muscle pattern just complete the total package. When something works extremely well sometimes you just need to carry on. “Ritz” has already had 2 full brothers go through our sale ring. They were both a couple of the heavy weight bulls, both being high sellers, going to Double T Cattle CO & Grant Bailey. If we could produce a whole pen just like him, we would. He’s damn good.

You will notice these “Mr. Gibbs” sons have a distinct pattern about them. Big powerful bulls with great length and muscle. “Fortress” has that same stamp, and will produce an outstanding set of feeding steers. One of the really neat qualities about him is his pigmentation. He has lots of black hair around his eyes and tail, and I dare say if someone has a set of British or British cross cows that is looking for a Fullblood bull to work on them, then I may very well suggest “Fortress”. His dam is an extremely easy fleshing low maintenance cow that always does a great job on her calves. She has only had one other bull selling to Neil Frank, and has produced several great daughters in her time. I like everything about this bull, I think you will too.

“Facebook” is this year’s top performance bull in the pen. He is impressive to say the least. Well “Arsenal” is certainly a bull who has been moving up the ranks all fall long. “Fletch” will be a steer producer. He is a big soggy bugger that no doubt if you got aggressive with a feed pail this is a bull that would light it up. I can only imagine a pen of his calves in the feedlot, and I know I am only talking about the feeding aspect of him, but keep in mind his dam is a “Damascus” daughter, who of course is an own son of “Antonius”. Very little guess work there, if you have ever owner an “Antonius” daughter you are very aware of their capabilities. Certainly a bull that will fit in everyone’s budget, and be a bull that will expand the diameter of your wallet when you market his calves.

“Flint” is the final “Mr. Gibbs” son catalogued this year, and he is a calf that I am drawn to more and more every day. “Flint” has a different twist of pedigree. Only 14 “Bessman” progeny registered in the Canadian herd book, and the dam of “Flint” is exceptional in my mind. Sometimes sourcing outcrossed genetics can be a complete roll of the dice. There is no doubt in my mind we struck gold when we found her, and this is a cow that I see big things for. She is picture perfect, and her registered offspring perhaps don’t indicate the job she has done as she has produced several young bulls that didn’t make the cut due to age. “Vengeance” is a grandson of my favorite cow “Sonita”. That alone should tell you all you need to know about this bull. We had to send her to town this past fall just due to age, but at age 15 I still think she had as good of udder as any cow on the place, excellent feet, and a true pleasure to work with. “Justice” comes from another of our old proven cows. This was the last calf from “Sassy” as she came up open this fall at age 12, but what a work horse she has been for us. “Flynn” is another bull coming from an older very proven cow. His dam has been yet another cow that consistently puts extremely marketable calves in the pen. She’s a no frills cow, just straight goods, as honest as they come. No doubt this would be one of the feature bulls from this sire group. “Ferrari” comes from a super nice young second calver who had a front end contender in last year’s bull pen that we lost due to a freak accident. This young cow has the makings of becoming a super star, and “Ferrari” has the indications of being a star himself. This bull is crafted very similar to his sire in all aspects. He is virtually a carbon copy of his sire from what I remember of “Entourage” as a calf. I think “Ferrari” has all the potential in the world, and if you want one that will get you to the front of the pack in a hurry then “Ferrari” could do it.

Every year we seem to have a couple bulls that we like pretty well in the fall, but they just kind of slide under the radar, and then pow you notice them every day. “Fabian” would probably be that bull for me this year. I love the total package of this bull. Super balance easy fleshing, from a great young cow. He is a little plainer colored, and my guess would be that’s why he never jumped out at me earlier, but I really find this bull hard to fault. I do think he is a total package, a birth weight that is extremely useable for everyone, and the type of bull that can work on any type of cow, and put his stamp on them. “Fabian” will be an outstanding investment.

The full sister to “Taboo” sold this fall in our heifer sale for $13,000 to Starwest Farms. She was Karen’s personal favorite in the sale, and comes from a super young “Epic” daughter. The combination of “Epic & Entourage” will result in dark red, heavily pigmented, long bodied smooth made high performance cattle every time. This is a really good cross. “Taboo” is extremely smooth fronted and should calve like a dream, and provide extra growth. I think a ring full of this guy’s steer calves will be wicked. “Lavigne” is a full brother to one of our feature bred heifer this fall, “Paparazzi” who sold to Clearwater Simmentals for $16,000. He is one of the younger bulls in the pen this spring, and has really started coming into his own as of late. Keep in mind sale day this bull will not be a year old yet. That is certainly one of the disadvantages of having our sale so early, a lot of these younger bulls are just really starting to turn into “BULLS”. “Fortitude” is from a big deep bodied broody cow who is the last daughter of our old “Image 21J” cow. She was one cow I regret not having ever entered our donor program, but she will show up in as many pedigrees on our farm as any. “Fortitude” doesn’t have all the bells and whistles some of the others have, he does have lots of natural thickness a good big deep rear quarter, a very smooth front end, a moderate birth weight and a pedigree bred for great things. “Moolah” was sold in last year’s sale, and was traded afterwards for one of the spare bulls instead. No big deal to us as this is a very honest bull with a modest birth weight stemming back to one of our top cow families in “Herlinde”. His dam will be calving again for us this spring at 14 years old, and has been a really steady producer for us. Also keep in mind he is a “Moomba” son which we lost way too soon with no semen inventory, so certainly unique genetics here. Good value to be found in “Moolah”. He is a virgin bill.

“Eucher” was catalogued in last year’s sale, but didn’t end up going in the sale, due to his young age at semen testing time. He was always a bull that stood out to me in last year’s pen, so when he was kept over as a spare he was a pretty easy decision to be in the sale. I really admire how he has developed, and matured into a phenomenal looking bull. These two year old bulls just ran out on grass, and then were just fed silage with our herd bulls until mid-December. “Intuition” is a bull we could always rely on to add hair, thickness, dark color and foot structure. His sons produced in the past have developed into easy fleshing deep bodied bulls much like himself. His daughters we have in production are extremely broody, deep bodied cattle with great udder attachment. “True North” was named due to the elements of winter. A bit of frost on his ears and tail, but that didn’t affect his quality. This is a super dark red heavily pigmented bull, red to the hoof that has tons of performance and will no doubt sire an outstanding set of feedlot steers. This is another bull that I think you will like today but really appreciate that much more in a couple years when he’s fully developed and his daughters start producing. He comes from a super nice young cow out of the Virginia Ranch herd and is a cow I have very high expectations of. This is a very good cross in my mind.

“Tyrannosaurus” is a very well-bred Polled calf. He is the little brother to “Mr. Gibbs” who has had a huge impact on our herd. He has extra personality much like his dam “Tyra” who thinks she is a person not a cow. We purchased “Aegon” from Ferme Sibelle as the high selling lot in the Synergy Bull Sale. This is his second calf crop for us, and we are very happy with the group of calves he has produced for us. “Aegon” is a moderate framed bull that will pack on extra muscle and natural thickness. One thing that is certainly worth noting his sire group will show a bit more birth weight. We intentionally used him on some of our biggest cows to blend them to the perfect mix. These are cows that are very capable of producing extra frame and power. I really like this set of bulls and feel that they will be a group that will produce a set of feedlot steers that will be top notched. Don’t use them on heifers for sure but very confidently throw them in on your mature cows and reap the rewards. They are extremely structurally correct easy fleshing sound bulls that are right for today.

“Sabre” is one of the few “Aegon” calves with limited pigmentation. (He does have a goggle on the opposite side of the picture.) This is a bull I have always really liked as a calf. His dam produced a bull that managed to make the bull sale every year, selling to Ferrybank Colony, 7F Ranch, Northway Cattle Co and “Maroon” that went on to be a herd bull for Langer Fleckvieh. The only year she didn’t produce a sale bull was last year when she gave us her very first heifer calf which we retained for our own herd. Not much guess work here. No doubt in my mind this bull will produce a set of steer calves that will blow your mind.

We always get Uncle Stan to come look at our bull pen at weaning time and give us an unbiased opinion of the calves. He always gives us a few numbers he doesn’t like and a few bulls he really likes. “Salsa” was high on his favorites list, and I think when you see him you will appreciate why. He is a super long smooth made power bull with excellent pigmentation, great muscle and thickness and a super disposition. He will be a bull that will be impressive when he matures, and will leave a whopping set of calves. His dam is a large framed cow, a direct daughter of our old “Desiree” donor cow. She is a cow that could give birth to a baby elephant and look for a second one. Every year we are asked who are your favorite bulls? If you’ve asked the question you have already met “Frontier” if not here he is. This is an awesome made bull that has stood out from birth. He is one of the thickest made bulls in the whole pen, and he is plain fancy to boot. His dam is a ½ sister to “Entourage” which speaks volumes of potential itself. She unfortunately was open this fall, but I felt as though this bull had a little extra something to him so we do have DNA stored on file on “Frontier’s” dam just in case he goes into a purebred herd. Garren purchased the dam of “Fireball” from us in the production sale the one fall. I had mentioned to him in my mind she was the sale sleeper, and being a full sister to “Gjenna” the “Dorothy Jane” daughter I consider to be her #1 daughter. She was also bred to “Aegon” the past 2 years and delivered 2 outstanding heifers in a row. This mating does work, and “Fireball” is genetically identical. Very little doubt in my mind that “Fireball” will be smoking hot as a mature bull.

The dam of “Chateau” was a great producing cow for us, and had to go this fall just due to age. In her time she produced 13 natural calves, calving every year in early to mid-January, never assisted, and absolutely trouble free. You can never own too many cows like that. I believe “Chateau” should follow suit, as there is longevity on both sides of this pedigree, and he too appears to be extremely low maintenance, very easy keeping and extremely sound. I think he will make a really good ranch bull for someone.

Certified calving ease bull. “Fozzy” is a well-balanced deep bodied bull with a super nice birth weight. I really like this first calving “Blueprint” daughter we purchased from Sunny Valley. “Steiger” is another bonafied heifer bull candidate. He is a dark red smooth built bull, very nice bone structure and shoulder set, and as an added bonus coming to you Polled as well. We still have a limited amount of “Antonius” semen in the tank, so I dare say if you see a calf from him in our sale, it’s a pretty safe bet he comes from one of our favorites. The dam of “Antonio” was our UNTOUCHABLE “D” female, as we set aside one female every year that is not eligible for the sale. “Antonio” will calve well but I’m certainly not pitching him as a heifer bull. We featured “Barbossa” on the front cover of last year’s Bull Sale catalogue, as honestly we weren’t sure how much time the old boy had left with us. Well this spring he will enter his 9th breeding season for us, and I can honestly say out of all the bulls we have walked over the years “Barbossa” will be the toughest to replace. His calving ease is unmatched, I’m not the biggest EPD guy, but for those of you who are he is in the top 1% of the breed for 7 categories. This is a bold statement to make but I think out of all the “Barbossa” sons sold over the years, “Salazar” may be my favorite to date. This is an incredible young herd bull in the making. Much like his sire I think “Salazar” will be way more than just a calving ease bull. “Heist” the sire of “Eisley” who was one of our higher selling bulls several years ago, selling to Bar 5 Simmentals for $11,000. He then sold that fall in their dispersal sale for $17,000. Pretty solid investment to say the least. The dam of “Eisley” is none other than the famous “409M” cow. We purchased these embryos in the Bar 5 dispersal, hoping to get a daughter. As you can see we have grouped a lot of these calving ease bulls together in a section in the catalogue. There will be some sprinkled throughout various sire groups but the bulk will be found in this section. “Ferdinand” is a very uniquely marked bull, very similar in markings to “Solway Adonis”. He comes from a super nice “Dirty Harry” daughter Garren bought from BMS in Quebec. “Precision” is a bull we purchased to work in our heifer pen. He calves extremely well, and was used on a mixture of cows and heifers. His time in the heifer pen may be a bit limited just due to his size, but he has done a great job for us there. His first set of sons sold in last year’s bull sale where they were extremely well received, and he managed to produce both the high seller and second high selling bulls, and had the second high sire group sale average at $10,215. Pretty impressive for his debut. Look to these “Precision” sons to be very easy fleshing, have calving ease, but also still offer lots of performance.

Mackenzie sold a full brother to “Candyman” in last year’s sale, selling to Ferrybank Colony. His birthweight is a bit deceiving as he is a twin, and his performance is also set back a bit from where he should probably be. His full brother was one of the top quality bulls in the “Precision” sire group last year, and there is no doubt in my mind this will be one of the really good buys this spring. “Precisely” is another of my favorite heifer bull candidates. He started at a modest 78 lbs. from a phenomenal young “Barbossa” female going back to the “Miss Arnold” cow family I talked about (see Lot #19). As I had mentioned in the write up on “Precision” we used him on a group of cows as well as heifers. “Saturn” comes from a cow that is one of those cows that it honestly doesn’t matter who she is bred to, calving ease or performance, she is pretty consistent on birth weight. This is a bull you easily find in the pen, he is darn good. Extremely long, well balanced, broad topped, and stylish, he has it all. Males or females his offspring will be wicked good. We sold a brother to this guy to Peter & Cec Dykstra, I know they said he was one of their top bulls. I can’t brag about “Saturn” enough, he’s the right type.

We had a friend of ours mention last year to perhaps make a few of these moderate birth weight bulls off of “Precision” off of a mature cow. “Frasier” is one of those, and built very similar to “Precisely”, but this time going back to the “Image 21J” cow family. This will be a super easy fleshing bull that will pack on the pounds by just smelling feed. I encourage you to look at the performance in “Frenzy”. He does come from a first calving “Mr. Gibbs” daughter who is a sister to our second high selling female this past fall. His grand dam “Zeon” has been one of our best kept secrets. This cow can knock them out of the park every time. His dam “Dakota” is certainly a female I think you will hear a lot about in years to come. “Frenzy” packs a bit more birth weight than some of the other calves from first calvers. Two key things to note, are the additional length of spine, and the calving date. I promise the cows that calve at the end of our season always pack more pounds on those calves. Confined for a longer period of time in a smaller area with less exercise. As you can see he was a smaller calf at weaning, but has just continued to climb the ladder in the pen. He’s a dandy.

“Mogul” comes from another of our old reliable cows, who did a phenomenal job in putting bulls in the pen over the years. This will be the fourth full brother in a row to sell, including two that went to Scotsford Colony, and one to Craig Abt last year. She has also produced bulls for Hairy Hill Cattle Co & Ferrybank Colony. She has only given us one daughter which we retained for ourselves and she’s a dandy. This is “Festus”, a very moderate birth weight bull that has calving ease written all over him. A very smooth fronted bull with exceptional length, from Garren’s top cow family. Not the most original name by any means, “Bob” short for “Bob Tailed” certainly sticks out in the pen. This is not a frozen tail but more of having his tail in the wrong place at the wrong time. “Bob” is a bull that could either work on your heifers or your cows. A very versatile bull that is put together right, dark red and smooth polled. His dam is an extremely easy keeping cow that looks the part 24/7. He should work in everyone’s budget and be a bull that can work for anyone. Very useful bull.

“Cosmo” comes from one of our unsung heroes in the cow pen. His mother always just goes about her job, always doing a nice job on her calves. Never a cow that you really notice but always puts a keeper in the pen. I must admit her strongest attributes have been her daughters, including “Zeon” who has been a top producer for us, and “Blair” who was a former high seller in our heifer sale to Beechinor Brothers who in turn produced “Ducati” as a first calver, who was one of the high sellers in their sale and now works for Parview Farms & Virginia Ranch. I am a big fan of “Pentagon”. He is the type of bull you can’t have too many of. A very useful birth weight, good performance, built right, the type anyone can use, not extreme in any way. This is a very correct bull with very good length and thickness. He is an eye appealing bull that is very easy to find in the pen. He is sharp looking and has a flawless structure to go along with a flawless pedigree. “Freud” is one of the darkest bulls in the pen. If there is someone looking for a Fullblood to use on black cows he should be high on your list. “Rizzo” will be blowing out his birthday candles sale day. This is a full brother to “Mazzorotti” who worked so well for R-Five Simmentals. Yes this is a part of the “Epic” sire group. “Magic Train” is the other cover child for this year’s bull sale catalogue. He is a super stout made bull that has an incredible disposition, and is one of the bulls that quite often got used for bait when taking pictures. These “Westcott” bulls have the same style about them. Big broad topped bulls, that will produce cattle the feedlots love. “Encore” is a deep sided bull from a “King Louie” daughter with a shot of Fleckvieh on the bottom side. We purchased the dam of “Esquire” from LaBatte Simmentals, as she is a granddaughter of his great “Pocahontas 105L” cow. We are sure glad to have her in our program, as this is a female we will build a cow family around. We have sold one son in our sale selling to Earl & Shirley Hagstrom, where he was one of the top red bulls that year. Another pen favorite in “Captain Jack”. There is a lot of potential here. We have gotten a little creative blending our Fleckvieh and Purebred genetics, and you will see “Captain Jack’s” pedigree is very woven with both. A top Fleckvieh cow family mated to the great “Bodybuilder” bull then crossed back with “Venom” a polled Fleckvieh, and then “Captain Scream” who needs no introduction. The results a Homo Polled blaze faced bull with lots of hair, top and muscle, a very nice birth weight, and a tremendous disposition. I think there is a lot of potential here not only based on the bull but an outcrossed pedigree as well.

As I had mentioned our Purebred numbers are relatively small, so staying current for us can have its challenges. “Admiral” becomes available because of a shift in our program. We have decided to AI all our purebred heifers, just to be able to offer more diversity and variety for our bull customers, thus “Admiral” will enter the ring in his prime. If you are looking for a near bomb proof heifer bull here he is. To date his calves for us have averaged 83 lbs. Yes a couple assists but as I said near bomb proof. This past year he bred all our Purebred heifers, as well as a set of commercial cows late so considering he serviced near 60 head (in 2 shifts) he came in looking great. “Copper” is the only “Admiral” son to sell. He has a little more birth weight than most of the “Admiral” calves coming from a ½ Fleck Purebred first calver. “Copper” will be a calving ease candidate, that offers a bit more performance as well. Big raw power. “Double Duty” is a bull I would suggest anyone with a smaller framed set of cows wanting to pack the pounds on to look at. His dam “Sarah” is a heavy milking cow that will wean off the big ones every time. We have a full sister producing in our herd that I absolutely love. This is the final set of bulls to sell for “King Louie”. He was an awesome bull for us, being a bull we confidently used on both our cows and heifers, always producing good solid cattle. We sold a full brother to “King Kong” a few years ago to Gerald & Doug Skeels. I know they have spoken very highly of him and the job he has done for them. “Riddler” came to us via a pregnant recip cow we purchased from the Beagle dispersal. A big thanks to Maureen and Eric Smith, as they has no intentions on selling “Ballistic”, as he was slated to be their next herd bull. I went to their place on the hunt for a Red bull, but when I saw “Ballistic” I thought wow, we have to see if we can get him. A bit of a story goes along with “Cochise”. He was hands down our feature black bull all summer long. He had a long list of admires. When we weaned, he ended up getting foot rot. So hard to believe as our pens were bone dry for the whole month of September…. NOT. Anyways in the process of fighting foot rot in the mud the rest of the pen decided he should be the whipping boy. He took a shit kicking and took a full month off. Now having said that here is the positive. He has completely turned things around and is back on track. Something a little different here. We own the dam of “After Party”, “Precious” with LaBatte Simmentals. Barry thought she would work well with “Liner 56U” and I would say he was right. We ended up with four calves, these two black bulls a Red Baldie Heifer, and a Red Baldie bull we are retaining for ourselves. This is an excellent pedigree that you will no doubt want to retain several daughters from. A very workable birth weight will allow you not to rush home to the calving barn and hang out for the “After Party”.

This year’s final lot is “Poe”, like the Panda. Aptly named, he has the markings of a Panda. His dam comes from one of our really solid old Fleckvieh cow families, same cow family that produced lot #42 & #46. “Fonzie” is another super laid back bull. This cow family always gives us mellow dispositions, and offers lots of growth. His dam is a larger framed cow, with no lack of performance, and has the groceries to raise the big calves. His grand dam “Licorice” was always a family favorite cow, who was no stranger to taking a spare calf when needed. In fact there wouldn’t have been too many years when she wouldn’t have fed an extra calf for a month, just a sweet cow to work with, that would take a baby by throwing it in the pen with her. Keep the daughters from “Fonzie”, they will make great cows, and when you sell “Fonzie’s” steer calves you will have Happy Days.
