We are very excited to have the first set of SAV America 8018 calves on the ground. The majority of them are out of past Female Focus highlight, HLC Erica 561g who sold for $34,000 for half interest to Kourtney Schaff, Schaff Angus Valley. Her first daughter highlights this offering as Lot 1 and her 3 brothers will be featured in our March 22 bull sale. The bred heifers on offer this year are bred to go home and get to work for their new owners. As well there will be a select group of commercial bred heifers on offer that come from great friends and customers, Cam and Sandy Taylor and Trevor and Tawnya Campbell. As we all know this year has been a bit of a trying one, with many of us experiencing dryer than normal conditions. We certainly hope that everyone was able to gather enough feed and that water supplies hold out through the winter months. The cattle market has continued to remain strong despite record feed grain prices. That being said I believe that there are even greater things ahead for the beef industry. Lets hope the worst of the drought is behind us and that this winter brings a good amount of run off to replenish our our water supplies. J SQUARE S ANGUS Welcome to the Third Annual Female Focus Production Sale. Once again, we are extremely excited to team up with our good friends at Hollinger Land and Cattle to bring you an exciting set of Angus females. I feel the sale offering is extremely deep in quality from both us as well as the Hollinger’s. The females in the sale, are a result of many well thought out decisions made over many years. We are featuring four full sisters sired by Conley South Point out of our great Forever Lady Donor. Last year we offered the same opportunity on flush sisters that sold to Merit Cattle Co. The success they have had with their pick so far has been outstanding and believe this year’s offering will achieve the same results. The bred heifers in the sale this year are the large majority of the group. We are retaining the heifers we purchased last year and the heifers that were offered for sale before. The offering is deep in quality and we stand behind every heifer on offer. This year we are excited to sell the first bred females by HF Alcatraz 60F. There are also females sired by proven bulls like Brooking Golden Ticket, HLC Crossfire and Musgrave Stunner. All of the heifers are bred to bulls that we strongly believe in. There are many exciting mating’s throughout the offering to AI sires like Ellingson Aquifer, HF Alcatraz 60F, Sitz Major 707F and Conley South Point 8362. The walking bulls who covered these heifers are two outstanding individuals. RRAR Mindbender was the lead off bull selected from Brian McCarthy’s herd this spring. The consistency of how well Mindbender bred at Brian’s was impossible to ignore and we are excited to utilize this young herd sire in our program. J Square S Black Gold 900G handled the duties of covering the Bank Note influence females. He is owned with Glasman farms and is working well at both farms. H TC N U D TIO C AU As many of you know we recently built our shop and sale facility. It was completed in the fall of 2018. Darrell Armstrong was the general contractor that built this facility from start to finish. From the concrete being poured to the final touches Darrell was the man that worked countless hours in all conditions to complete our shop. Over the course of the build, Darrell became a good friend to us. In the fall of 2020 we received some startling news that Darrell had suffered a bad fall from the scaffolding he was working on. As some time passed we later learned that STARS Air Ambulance was largely responsible in saving his life. After a few conversations with Darrells wife Sharon, we learned that she wanted to help raise some money for STARS and their outstanding organization. We thought it would be a great fit that we do it in one of Darrell’s final large scale projects during one of our sales. Sharon has kindly donated a beautiful quilt that will be auctioned off in a Dutch auction format. We want to thank STARS and their entire Organization for the outstanding life saving service they provide the people of this province. Thank you - Chad On October 13, 2020 my husband, Darrell, had a bad fall and required STARS service. When he left our small rural community, I did not know what state he would be in when he got to Regina…..forever thankful for STARS excellent transfer. It was while he was a patient in Regina General Hospital that I got to see how many times a day that STARS flew in with patients and I was shocked at the frequency. I was sitting in the hospital a month into his recovery and was worried about the cost for this service only to find out that STARS do not charge….they depend on donations!!! I have in the past supported STARS through their lottery and other events, but after our experience of STARS life saving skills….I felt I needed to help more. I learned that it cost approximately $6,000.00 per trip! To help fundraise for STARS we are auctioning a quilt off with all the proceeds going to STARS. 22D We were fortunate enough to have four flush sisters again this year and decided to offer them on choice just like our feature lot in last years sale. Our Forever Lady 301Y donor cow has been nothing but outstanding since we purchased her from the prestigious Masterpiece Sale in 2011. She is a daughter of the great Forever Lady 9136 cow that produced very well for Eastondale Angus. We currently have 6 daughters in our herd and are excited to add the three heifers not selected on sale day to our herd as well. As far as I am concerned, Conley South Point needs no introduction. In the same year he won both Canadian Western Agribition and the National Western Stock Show in Denver. We were very fortunate enough to secure some semen when it was first available and are very happy with his progeny. We exhibited the 109J heifer at Ag Ex in Brandon, MB where she was Reserve Senior Heifer Calf Champion. I believe all four full sisters are going to be great cows.
