Welcome to our 17th Annual Bull and Female Sale. Each year as we put together the catalogue we tend to reflect upon the last year. 2022 was a year full of gratitude for our family. Crops were much better than the previous year, the grass was green and mother nature gave us another long beautiful fall to get the crops off and get some “extra” jobs done before the snowfall.

We are also grateful for Jody being 18 months cancer free! As I write this, is it is 2 years to the day that his surgery was a success. It has been a long road to get to where we are now but together we persevered. A health scare gives you a very different perspective on life. We enjoy all the simple things and are always satisfied with the life we have right in front of us. We went from so much uncertainty of our future when Jody got diagnosed to having found an even deeper love of working together and a renewed desire to continue growing the Crossroad roots for the next generation.

Over the last 2 years our kids, Olivia, Shelby, Jaici and Cooper have really jumped into the Crossroad Farms operation with both feet. As this next generation continues to grow up our hearts are filled with pride watching each one of them taking a vested interest in the farm. There is no greater joy than seeing your children/grandchildren share your passion of the agriculture business. Olivia is in her second year of animal science in Colorado and Shelby will be attending the University of Saskatchewan in the fall to pursue her degree in crop sciences. Depending on what the next two choose to do we could end up with all our bases covered. But whatever any of them choose to do we will be proud and Crossroads will always be home.

This past fall Shelby talked us into showing some bulls and selling some females. The kids put in the work and won champion pen of bulls at Edam Fall Fair and sold some females at the Border City Sale in December.

A special thank you to our employees. Claude for putting in the long hours doing multiple jobs for us and keeping everything clean and tidy and things running smoothly. Kirk for his hard work, patience and sense of humour. He knows our herd as well as we do and we are beyond thankful for the pride he takes in his job. Our long time employee Dave has decided to retire at the age of 75. We have been blessed to have Dave as a dependable employee for many years and he will be missed but I’m sure he will be around the odd day and maybe driving a combine come fall. These 3 men are far more than employees – they are family! Also a big thank you to Ian for doing nights. Between Jody’s health and our age creeping up on us having a night guy is game changer for us and allows us to still function during the day.

Our relationship with our customers has always been something we put a lot of focus on and many of our customers have become very dear friends over the years. As our daughter Olivia said in an interview for a scholarship, “Good people will attract good people.” Treat people well and they will do the same in return. We base our business on customer service, honesty and producing good working animals. When someone puts faith in our program it validates all the hard work we put into producing cattle that work for the commercial producers. Your success is our success.

We are proud of our offering of bulls again this year. We invest a lot of time and energy into researching and trying to produce the best quality bulls that will produce for our customers. We focus on creating great momma cows and calves that will give high returns to our customers. We feel we have something to offer for everyone. There is nothing better than hearing how good a customers steers weighed or how nice the udders are on the heifers.

We have eight American Red sons for you to choose from this year. We purchased him from North Dakota, chosen not only for his genetics but also his excellent structure that moves so effortlessly. Sons and daughters are equally impressive. Females have great udders and excellent mothering ability. A picture perfect blaze on a cherry red American Red son is a rare find. 168K exhibits a thick quarter, deep middle, and a smooth made front end. His dam 125E has been a reliable producer for our granddaughter Shelby over the years. Two daughters have been retained in the herd, and a full brother to American Wolf was sold for $13,500 in 2020. We have three R Plus Rattler sons for you this year. He has produced some top quality high sellers for us. Here is a deep bodied Rattler son showing his muscle pattern developing in this November picture. It’s always nice to see these bulls at this stage in their development and just not on sale day. This fella weaned off at 840 pounds in late August and he just keeps getting thicker by the day. Make sure you check out this guy’s video when they go online in February. There is a lot more bull there than what this November picture shows. He is a performance bull out of a sire we raised and collected some in-herd semen before our sale. He was a high seller purchased by Bergman Family Farm at Langenburg. We also have several sons from this sire in our black division, one is a full brother, same mother just a different colour. His dam is a tank and grandam is the mother of Connected. We have retained all four daughters born to this dam with a couple of them also being full siblings to this bull. Lots of power and pedigree, meat and muscle, he will sire some tremendous calves.

Pictured here at a little over nine and a half months, he has good muscling throughout, a thick hair coat, colour and style. Did I mention that he was quiet. You should really come to the sale and be sure to scratch this itchy/friendly beggar.

His dam is red, you would think this bull would be solid red but there is some fullblood back there and DNA confirms what the pedigree says. This is an awesome bull, he has a big square rear quarter, is full of natural muscling and moves out well. A ton of proven traits blanket this stylish bull, he will sire consistency you can rely on.

He has a solid colour pattern, good feet and legs and measured up well where it counts for bulls. He is Homo polled by pedigree. This bull was born at only 79 pounds and the scale said 800 on weaning day the end of August. We sure like the Reputation progeny, they are easy doing cattle with natural thickness. We just sold a fancy Reputation daughter at the Border city sale in December for $26,000 to Westgold, it was hard to part with that one. We have a full sister to this bull going to calve in the beginning of January, udder quality looks excellent on all the Reputation daughters. This bull's dam is due again in early January, she comes from a proven cow family with her dam being the mother of Polled Future and Crossroad Pilot. This bull will be awesome by sale day. As you can see in this November picture, he has lots of muscle expression in that rear quarter and thickness throughout, big testicles and a good disposition make this a very complete package. Terms & Conditions

TERMS – The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made.

Crossroad Farms reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should the purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Crossroad Farms reserve full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. Crossroad Farms and sales staff has the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment and who has not made prior credit arrangements, prior to the sale with Crossroad Farms.

BID – Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.

DISPUTES – In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK – Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY – The proper Registration or Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after the settlement has been made.

SHIPPING – Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Seller. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement.

GUARANTEE – All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the Canadian Simmental Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE – In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. In the cases of bulls, they are guaranteed to breed naturally according to the Canadian Simmental Association Guarantee but no guarantee is given that semen from any bull will freeze.

HEALTH – All animals will have passed the required tests as determined by Agriculture Canada at sale location. It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state.

ACCIDENTS – Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither Crossroad Farms or any Sales Staff or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS – The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected thereto are not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale.

PICTURES – By attending our sale you are giving your consent for your picture to be taken and used for promotional or advertising purposes only of Crossroad Farms. If you wish to not have your picture used please advise us in writing immediately after the sale.

A very attractive deep bodied American Red heifer that was born in March but you would never know she is younger by looking at her. Her transplant dam’s pedigree definitely has contributed to her natural thickness. We love our American red females; they have excellent udders and make very good cows. Every so often we go deep into the semen tank and use something that has always worked. Our Gunner females have done just that.
