Dear Premier Club Member, I began thinking about summer as I walked away from the Easter egg hunt with my daughter, Jamison. There’s something about the end of Easter/Passover that triggers the thought process of summer. Thanks to Robert Vazquez and Kimberly Milovac, last month’s Boca Club Life contained the official kids’ map for the summer. The kid-specific Boca Kids Life contained all the information on the different sports camps, the FlowRider and Glow-Flow nights, Q Nightclub and the ice cream events. For those spending the summer in Boca, the only ones relaxing will be mom and dad. In many ways I think my family mirrors a Boca summer family. We’ll spend a little time away, but we love the temperature of the ocean, the cooling effect of an afternoon rain and the lower wait times at restaurants. Even though we’re home, my wife and I aim to create Summer 2015 memories for our girls. I know I tend to romanticize things through my “rose-colored glasses,” but summer is a time for being a free spirit; for doing things for the first time, but also finding new traditions. Our team has given careful consideration to programming the summer so our Boca families can do things for the first time while starting traditions. Learn to play golf. Learn to play tennis. Attend Camp Make Believe or be a Mad Scientist. Surf at night, take pictures at the 4th of July BBQ and put them in the cloud. Summer is the feel good time and it’s almost here. Congratulations to all our graduates. One of our close friends has a daughter leaving St. Andrews to go to UNC Chapel Hill; wherever your graduate is going, give them one more great summer. On that note, we employ a lot of FAU and Lynn students so don’t hesitate to ask if they’re on their way to change the world. Finally and most importantly, congratulations and thank you to our mothers. It’s sad to think we only set aside one day a year to recognize the time, energy and love that mothers give to their children. In so many cases it doesn’t take a village; it just takes one amazing mother. Happy Mother’s Day to all our moms.

Chef Gonzalo Rivera Takes the Helm as Executive Chef at the Boca Beach Club The Boca Beach Club has a new executive chef. Chef Gonzalo Rivera graduated from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco in 2004. From there his career skyrocketed. A protégé of famed chef Michael Mina, Chef Gonzalo has worked at a number of the Mina Group’s top restaurants, including the Stonehill Tavern in Monarch Beach, California, and both the Strip Steak at Mandalay Bay Casino & Hotel and Michael Mina Las Vegas at Bellagio Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev. He also helped Nemi Restaurant in Mexico City make Travel + Leisure’s list of that country’s top restaurants. His most recent position was in his native California at Copita Tequileria y Comida. Raised in California, Chef Gonzalo developed a passion for food and cooking. Be careful out there! The bad news One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, someone dies of melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, every 57 minutes. The good news Skin cancer, which is largely categorized as a lifestyle disease, is highly preventable.

May is Melanoma Awareness Month, a perfect time to offer tips that can help reduce the risk of skin cancer: • Use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. • Apply 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside. Reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or excessive sweating. • Seek the shade. • Avoid tanning and UV tanning booths. • Keep newborns out of the sun. E V ENTS T H I S M O NT H

I was a sun worshiper in my 20s and continued to love the sun in my 30s. Now that I’m in my 40s, I’m paying the price in the form of sun spots on my face. The best advice I can give anyone is to wear sunscreen – on face and body! Wear it on sunny days, cloudy days and even rainy days.

By Robert D. Willix, Jr. MD Enlightened Living Medicine

Class Iv Cold Laser may be the Solution to many Causes of Inflammation and Pain Acute and chronic pain from disc disease, sports injuries, inflammation of tendons, partial tears of the meniscus of the knee, and diabetic neuropathy may all receive partial and/or complete relief from a new noninvasive procedure. The class IV cold laser provides an innovative technique called photo bio modulation, uses a large convex treatment head to provide the tissues of the means to displace swelling, as well as, provide a deep source of energy to the tissues thereby initiating thereby scattering photons and initiating anti-inflammatory response. The light that is absorbed from this system by the cells releases a gentle heating effect, thereby promoting an initial anti-inflammatory response that decreases pain and swelling simultaneously. As light is absorbed at the cellular level the mitochondria are stimulated to produce ATP, nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Nitric oxide is a powerful vasodilator and important cellular signaling molecule involved in many physiological processes. ROS has been shown to signal certain pathways that relieve the inflammatory response. The vasodilatation produced by nitric oxide increases blood flow bringing about a removal of waste products of inflammation, increasing oxygen to the tissues and promoting a healing response. The recent development of high power class IV lasers affords the physician the ability to deliver adequate doses efficiently to the deep tissue to reduce pain, inflammation and accelerate healing. Some of the clinical conditions we at Enlightened Living Medicine have been using the class IV laser for include low back pain, disc bulging and/or herniation, tendinitis of the knees, shoulder, elbow and foot, diabetic neuropathy, and even spinal stenosis. We have even found relief of chronic knee pain associated with the postoperative pain from knee replacement surgery that was performed years before. We at ELM believe that the future for laser therapy will prove to be beneficial preoperatively, postoperatively and has the potential to relieve many of the injuries that occur from golf, tennis and sport related injuries. While the treatment often requires 10 to 20 sessions we believe the investment in time provides the patient with a noninvasive relief of chronic pain and inflammation.

how to hit better irons with advice from Kellie Stenzel. Premier Club Members can benefit from the pro’s insight up close and in person every month at the Kellie Stenzel Golf Academy at the Resort & Club. “Balance is critical for solid iron strikes,” Kellie writes in the MONTH issue of the magazine. “All great players – heck, even the ‘pretty good’ ones – have excellent balance. While some are born with good balance, it’s a skill that can be learned.” Kellie has made the list of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers every year since 2009. “Golf is filled with shortcuts – so-called fixes that only work for a round or two,” she tells readers. The balance drill designed to improve stability at impact for “rocket-like irons” that she demonstrates in the magazine isn’t one of them. “Even a slight increase in stability can save you strokes for good,” she says.

Kelli Stenzel offers junior clinics every Saturday morning from 11 a.m. to 12 noon to help juniors reach their maximum potential in a fun, positive, confidencebuilding atmosphere.
