BOCA RATON | NEW YORK | LOS ANGELES | CHICAGO | DALLAS | GENEVA | LONDON | HONG KONG | TEL AVIV | DUBAI | PANAMA | MOSCOW

Dear Premier Club Member, I attended a meeting in Chicago at the beginning of the year and listened to Tony Hseih, the CEO of Zappos, speak not so much on business, but on human behavior. Hseih purchased a swath of Las Vegas real estate in an abandoned area off of the Vegas strip and is master planning a city. As a social scientist, he identified the importance of “collision points” or, areas of a city that people must interact through the conscious design of sidewalks, roads and stores. He commented that in today’s technologically based society (translation: too much focus on social media), we can force interaction through design and socially driven businesses (i.e. Starbucks). This triggered thought about the Resort & Club’s collision points and where members interact socially or could interact socially. We have many, but as it relates to summer in particular, where could members congregate to increase interaction with each other? What programming could we incorporate to draw members to those collision points: food, entertainment, kids’ activities; maybe all of the above? Many of the Resort & Club’s members cite social interaction as a reason for satisfaction with their membership; so we’re working on increasing collision points this summer. As such, Burger Night is back on Thursdays at 501 East beginning on June 4th. Fridays bring THE CLUB at Palm Court with live music. Saturday nights are about being outside with friends drinking great cocktails from Shaka while watching the kids surf on the FlowRider. Count on these events every Thursday – Saturday. Also, mark off the 4th of July for the Stars and Stripes Festival and Fireworks held on the Grand Lawn outside of the Mizner Center. We’re increasing the collision points so that you have a great place to entertain or meet other member families. It’s a bit overwhelming with everything that’s going on. Bookmark the member mobile site on to your phone: bocaresort.com/members.html. Thereafter you’re one touch away from everything that’s going on at the Resort & Club. Get your summer on…

Fabulous New Flavors

at Bar Luna By Kevin Ives, Executive Chef – Restaur ants

We are incredibly excited to debut a new Bar Luna menu. A tremendous amount of effort went into sourcing exceptional ingredients and developing innovative recipes to create a fun, fresh and lively menu. In true Italian form, experience a minimalist touch that allows the quality and flavor of the ingredients to speak for themselves. From the handcrafted salumis from West Loop and artisanal cheeses to the seasonal bruschettas and pizzettas, the menu features a great mix of dishes meant to be shared and enjoyed with family and friends. The plan is to change the menu frequently, using ingredients at the peak of their seasonal freshness and giving Members a reason to come back, again and again, to try the chef’s newest inspiration. Enjoy!

West Loop Salumi’s Proud Heritage By Greg Lakatek, Owner

Our style of salumi originates from the

dinin g & entertainment

traditional recipes of Reggio Emilia in Northern Italy, the home of the famous salumi-producing estate of Antica Corte Pallavicina. West Loop’s most popular salumi, including Coppa from Piacenza, Finocchiona from Tuscany and Soppressata from Calabria, contain ingredients from the regions where the recipes originated. The meat is all natural from family-owned Heritage Berkshire farms. I hope that, with every bite of the West Loop Salumi now available at Bar Luna, you will agree the effort was worth it.

West Loop Salumi specializes in Old World Italian traditions and recipes. The Chicago-based salumeria prides itself on the quality of its ingredients – especially when it comes to the meat used to create its sought after salumi.

Service and hospitality are in Kim Gerrard’s blood. Growing up, she helped out with her parents’ catering business; assisting in the kitchen as a child and then, as a teen, serving on the floor. Her first job outside the family business was as a hostess at Danfords Hotel & Marina in Port Jefferson, N.Y. From there, Kim continued to grow quickly in her chosen career path, taking on a variety of management challenges and responsibilities at a number of well-known New York restaurants, include Blue Water Grill, The Smith and Isabella’s, among others. In addition, to an extensive background in the restaurant industry, Kim also brings incredible passion to her new position as Lucca’s general manager. She loves being around food – eating, drinking, cooking and sharing her passion with others. She looks forward to making a real connection with Members at the Resort & Club and to providing strong leadership for the team at Lucca, Bar Luna and the Monkey Bar.

Stress is Deadly

Share the

All of the Eastern medical systems stress the importance of a peaceful mind for total well-being. The Chinese express this as the state when one feels: Refreshed, like swimming in the ocean Relaxed, like resting in a grassy meadow Growing, like the tallest evergreen Refined, like polished gold, and Radiant, like a sunset

By Robert D. Willix, Jr. MD

Enlightened Living Medicine

Stress is deadly. Stress causes hypertension, the so-called “silent killer” that’s a root cause of heart attack, stroke and even kidney failure. Stress is a contributing factor in ulcers and has been pointed to as a possible cause for immune system weakness. Some research indicates that in a worst-case scenario – that is, if you’re a so-called “hot reactor” and sudden stress causes a jolt of epinephrine to hit your heart – stress can lead to sudden-death. Even if stress doesn’t kill you, it can make your life miserable. It can lead to blinding headaches, the feeling that your stomach is tied in knots and debilitating back pain. It can make you lash out at loved ones and co-workers. Long-term stress causes mental anguish and can irreparably damage careers and relationships. One study showed that a remarkable 85 percent of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress-related illnesses. A second study, this one conducted by Northwestern National Life Insurance of Minneapolis, Minn., measured job-related stress and showed that almost half the workers surveyed experienced job-related stress in the year they were surveyed. It showed that about 65 percent had suffered exhaustion, anger, anxiety or muscle pain due to stress and that 72 percent experienced three or more stress-related illnesses in the year prior to the survey.
