OUR PHILOSOPHY …the rapid frequency and range of development nowadays, results in the continuous creation of data. The understanding of technological achievements and their application in accordance to human needs, constitutes the basis for enriching the quality of life. Architecture takes active part in this development, reflecting in each given time, the course of civilization. Today, like never before, new data creates a field that is constantly changing. In the face of this creative fluidity, architecture finds itself in sync with its constantly changing environment resulting from the progress of technology, which is a fundamental parameter for architectural concepts. We are therefore driven to design flexible buildings that can respond and support occurring needs, environmental conditions and human relations. Modern technology incorporated in the use of building and new materials available in construction, are vital elements in the modern architectural expression. An expression where the aesthetics of every element and the whole that they compose, is the result of crucial choices that renders it timeless.

The redesign of the Intra Schengen area at the International Airport of Athens, is the last part of a series of modernization interventions that occurred in the last five years. On the departures level, the first area to be redesigned was the Extra Schengen area. The functional and aesthetic modernization of the Intra Schengen area, acted as the basic parameter for the upgrade of this this specific area and transforms the beginning of a trip, to an interesting travel experience. The creation of a single security check area prior of the commercial area, gives the passenger the possibility to use the time left prior to his boarding, to browse through the Commercial and Food & Beverage areas. The functional design was supported by the creation of distinct focus The white

ture “light web”, signalise and enclose the centralized security check area. Referring to the “urban fabric” and adjacent to the security area, follows the commercial area with the “open market”, which transforms itself into an area of “commercial roads” where the retail shops are located. This whole route is lit by custom made pendant lights. Along the commercial axis, one finds two areas referring to public squares “Plateies” that act as nodes connecting the commercial area with the waiting area of the Gates. The “Plateies” are signalized by a distinctly lit frame enclosing a trapezoid linear light web. Adjacent to the “Plateies”, are located food and beverage areas, that mix with the waiting areas. Likewise, at the Extra Schengen area, a “Plateia”
