President’s Welcome On behalf of my fellow directors, management, and staff, welcome to the ROCCO’s 2021, the Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. We are here tonight to celebrate business excellence in Renfrewshire and, following a pause last year, we are delighted to return with ROCCO 2021, our annual business awards now in their 17th year. This evening we will hear many stories of resilience, adaptation and recovery overcoming significant challenges. Our business community has met these challenges head on and responded magnificently in the most unprecedented of times. Winning a ROCCO is a great achievement, this year more than ever as the world recovers. The decision-making process was, as expected, extremely hard and I wish to thank the 32 judges who gave up their time to judge the entries and to attend the presentations from the shortlisted companies. The judging process is intense, and your contribution is invaluable. In addition, I wish to thank all our sponsors for their support, as without it the ROCCO’s would not be possible. Our sponsors in common with your Chamber are genuinely committed to the promotion of Business excellence in Renfrewshire. The ROCCO’s is a night of celebration, so please enjoy yourself and let’s collectively celebrate the fact that Renfrewshire is a world-class area in which to do business. Have a great night as we celebrate all that has been achieved together to help Renfrewshire grow and prosper.

Liz Connolly President, Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce.

Principal Sponsor’s Welcome I’m delighted that we can gather in person for tonight’s ROCCOs Awards and celebrate the achievements of Renfrewshire’s business community. These have been uniquely challenging times for everyone, and the resilience shown by our business community has been remarkable. I’m pleased that we’re able to show our support as principal sponsors with our Paisley. is destination brand. This is a great place to live, visit, work and invest in – the businesses represented tonight are a shining example of that – and we must keep telling our story to the rest of the world. Some major developments are now moving at pace and they make this a hugely exciting time for Renfrewshire. The new Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) is taking shape and will be a magnet for companies choosing to locate here, tapping into the incredible innovation and skills expertise offered by two world-leading research centres.

ROCCO BUSINESS AWARDS 2021

The recent COP26 summit has sharpened focus on net-zero ambitions worldwide, and it’s fantastic that we can contribute with innovations such as Scotland’s first ‘fifth generation’ heating network in the new district – a clear demonstration of our commitment to making Renfrewshire carbon neutral by 2030. With work due to start on the first opening bridge over the River Clyde at Renfrew, our £100m investment in cultural infrastructure led by the transformation of Paisley Museum and a similar £100m commitment to housing renewal, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver inclusive growth and create a thriving Renfrewshire that works for all. And we are delighted to see the private sector responding so positively to the council’s commitment, with new private investment already taking place in Paisley and across Renfrewshire, and exciting new developments emerging for the future. You play your part with your passion, pride and commitment. Please continue to champion everything that our area has to offer. Congratulations to everyone shortlisted for an award and enjoy your night.

Cllr Iain Nicolson Leader, Renfrewshire Council

Host & Entertainment After eighteen quiet months when events - and everything else in the ‘nighttime economy’ - went quiet, Fred is back to host the ROCCO Awards 2021. “I’m absolutely delighted to be back. I restarted stand up in July in a beer garden in Bo’ness and had a lovely time at the (much reduced) Edinburgh Fringe. And now we’re back in our tuxedos and ball gowns to celebrate the achievements of Renfrewshire’s business successes who have triumphed in the most difficult circumstances. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all on the 19th” Fred has recently recorded a new series of Fred At The Stand which starts on BBC Radio4 later in Nov. He has also recorded an episode of ‘Celebrity Chase’ which will be shown on ITV in the run up to Christmas. You’ll also see Fred on STV’s Hogmanay Show - if you’re not otherwise engaged on 31/12!! And finally you can hear Fred on Clyde2 or Westsound every Sunday at 10am.

ROCCO BUSINESS AWARDS 2021

Host & Entertainment When we are under pressure we all need to find our own release valve, something that gives us perspective and allows us to reset for what lies ahead. Forming the NHS GG&C Choir provided that perfect morale booster and therapeutic diversion for staff from the Royal Hospital for Children and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. When pulling the pieces together I knew I needed help and as such enlisted Jean Hepburn as administrator and Mark Lilley as treasurer. I also required a musical director who was not totally unhinged and who would, when required, teach, encourage and develop the 80 or so members into a viable choir. Martin Kelly was an easy choice as I had worked with him on projects over a number of years. The brief was simple ‘Let’s have fun’. In a sense, without realising it, we built a community of people who over the years have put their heart and soul into not only the performances but to the charities and good causes we encountered along the way. They may not all sing like angels but I can assure you that they have all earned their wings in one way or another. In the worst of times they have given their absolute best and are a credit to themselves, their families and the NHS. Throughout this pandemic every patient was treated with the same care and compassion they would have offered to their own sister, brother, mother, father or friend. It has been a great privilege to work alongside them and be there through the tears and through the laughter. There has been a lot of laughter. Along the way we have had the joy to welcome new babies, sing and dance around Scotland, and celebrate everything that gladdens human hearts. We gather to sing together for the first time in two years. Some will be nervous, some even terrified but collectively we will take responsibility for whatever noise we make. My guess, based on experience is that it will be a happy joyful noise. We are delighted to be part of your celebrations tonight and hope that you enjoy our contribution to the evening. We wish health and happiness to you and your families and success and prosperity in your business and charitable endeavours. ‘May the force be with you’. Jim Meighan

ROCCO Award for Environmental Sustainability It’s a pleasure to be presenting a new award tonight which highlights the growing significance of environmental sustainability to Renfrewshire’s business community. Glasgow’s status as host of the COP26 summit has increased awareness to new heights. Everyone understands that they have a part to play in the journey to net zero. In June 2019, we declared a climate emergency in Renfrewshire and set to the task of making Renfrewshire carbon neutral by 2030. Cllr Iain Nicolson Leader, Renfrewshire Council

Our £1m Climate Change Action Fund is investing in electric vehicles across our fleet; designing ‘zero carbon’ new builds for social housing; funding active travel routes; and supporting projects in community food growing and peatland restoration.

Tonight’s nominees have demonstrated their commitment and their contribution to helping Renfrewshire achieve its targets. This is a great opportunity tonight to recognise their efforts. I wish all the nominees the best of luck and congratulate you again on your achievements.

ROCCO BUSINESS AWARDS 2021

ROCCO Award for Renfrewshire’s Favourite Business

Finalists

The Paisley Daily Express has been serving the Renfrewshire community since 1874.

Paisley Daily Express readers were asked to nominate who they thought would be a worthy winner of Renfrewshire’s Favourite Business – taking into aspects of the business, such as their product(s), service & quality. The judges selected a shortlist of 5 from the many entries and encouraged people to vote for their favourite online. The organisation with the most votes will be crowned the winner tonight!

Over the decades, the paper has been through countless changes and seen politicians, council leaders and provosts come and go - but we are still here. The Express has, proudly, always been seen as a champion of the community it serves and its journalists have never shied away from taking on tough subjects. Over time, we have campaigned for changes in knife crime sentencing, teamed up with the NHS on an awardwinning campaign to encourage people to stop smoking and also took a great risk with our shop-a-dealer anti-drugs initiative.

Gavin McInally, Editor, Paisley Daily Express

We also devoted great resources to helping St Vincent’s Hospice, in Howwood, aiming to raise £1million in a calendar year - and, very proudly, succeeded. As well as tackling the big issues of the day, our job is to supply people with the information they need on issues ... no matter how small. Our readers are the most important people to us and we are always happy to investigate any genuine concerns they raise, support their charity efforts and send our photographer to their community events. Currently, times are tough for newspapers and we at the Express feel we have adapted well to social media, online content and changing technology without losing sight of the fact that our readers must come first.

We are honoured to sponsor the Rocco Award for Renfrewshire’s Favourite Business and to be more involved in Renfrewshire’s highly-respected annual business Oscars.

It also has an 8-room in-patient unit where local people can receive specialist care in a homely and caring environment at the end of their lives. St Vincent’s also provides support to families, including bereavement support for those who have lost a loved one and a specialist bereavement service for children and young people. Hospice services are free to everyone in the area, but are only partially funded from public sources, meaning that the hospice has to raise around £1.5M every year just to pay for core running costs. We are enormously grateful to all of the businesses in Renfrewshire, large and small, who give so generously to the hospice, whether that be through staff fundraising, volunteering or in-kind donations. St Vincent’s is your hospice and it is your support that makes our work possible.

Kidney Research UK In July, the Chamber’s much-loved board director, Elaine Sherlock tragically passed away with Covid-19. Tonight, we are supporting Kidney Research UK as one of our chosen charities in Elaine’s honour. We will remember her passion and enthusiasm for Renfrewshire, Ingliston Hotel & Country Club, and the Chamber with much fondness. Elaine, 57, had a hereditary kidney disease and started dialysis in 2010. She received a kidney as part of the paired donation scheme in 2011, and lived a full and active life up until her death this year. Over the past decade, Elaine has been a huge fundraiser for Kidney Research UK, raising large sums of money and increasing awareness. Elaine’s brother Jim Hayton said, “First and foremost, Elaine was a huge supporter of Kidney Research UK because she’d benefitted so much from her kidney transplant. Her daughter Lauren recently set up a fundraising page and it’s raised thousands in a matter of weeks. We’ll all try to keep Elaine’s wonderful tradition going in her memory” RRC will continue to support her charity work which she held so close to her heart.

Working With Young People Sadly, our schools partnership activity has been severely curtailed due to the pandemic however We’ve included a reminder of activity in 2019 and look forward to supporting our young people once more when we resume activity in early 2022. Young people are our future and the Chamber invests a great deal of resource in this area covering all ages from nursery to students. From the schools partnership agreement with Council Education Department and our support of the Recruit and Invest in Renfrewshire, to the delivery of our Skills Ambassador program where chamber members dedicate time to work with High School groups over 6 months developing their communication & job searching skills, interview techniques and CV building. Other programmes supported include: • • •

Primary Engineer STEM fortnight Skills Ambassador

Graduate Apprenticeships - Johnny Mone, UWS
