Muhlenberg College Board of Associates

2023

- 2024

The purpose of the Muhlenberg College Board of Associates is to serve as community ambassadors for Muhlenberg College and to generate support for its strategic initiatives. We accomplish this by engaging business, professional and civic leadership from the community with the College’s administration, faculty and students; partnering with the College to implement programs that support student development; and fostering a sense of belonging in the greater community.

Board of Associates Programs

Board of Associates Scholarships

With funds collected through annual dues and additional contributions by Board of Associates members, the Board of Associates awards two scholarships annually to current Muhlenberg students from Allentown with financial need.

Eva Abboud

Class of 2025

Major: Political Science

Hometown: Allentown, PA

Eva’s message to the Board of Associates:

“This scholarship is greatly appreciated and will be used towards what is most important to me, my education. Thank you.

In the future, I would like to go to law school to continue my education and become a lawyer. One thing I enjoy about Muhlenberg is the community and the acceptance of the people around campus. Also, the support is definitely real, because everyone believes in you and will always encourage you. Students and professors will always provide words of empowerment, saying that whatever you want to do in your life, you will get there.”

Rama Al Ali

Class of 2025

Majors: Public Health and Psychology

Hometown: Allentown, PA

Rama’s message to the Board of Associates:

“I’m enjoying my time at Muhlenberg since I feel welcomed and supported. I’m looking forward to gaining more experience in my academic interests through internships to allow myself to find where I fit. You have helped to relieve a lot of stress and have given me the chance to enjoy my time at college. In the long term, I think this will ease the transition from college to the workforce or graduate school because I’ll have fewer things to worry about, which will boost my confidence and assurance. Thank you.”

Board of Associates Student Community Engagement Awards

The Board of Associates solicits nominations each year for Muhlenberg students with high levels of involvement in the community to receive the Board of Associates Community Engagement Award, presented at the Board of Associates spring dinner. Award recipients are selected by a committee of the Board of Associates. Each awardee receives a cash award and a plaque. In May, the Board of Associates recognized four recipients:

● Eric Brown ’23

● Giovanni Merrifield ’23

● Alison Rutyna ’23

● Eva Vaquera ’23

Community Engagement Grants

The Board of Associates Executive Committee allocates annual membership dues toward community projects led by Muhlenberg students, faculty and staff. In the 2022-23 academic year, the Executive Committee supported these projects:

● The Board of Associates sponsored Art Day, a project at Brigadier General Anna Mae Hays Elementary where Muhlenberg students bring visual arts methods and materials to elementary students culminating in a reception and art show at Muhlenberg.

● The Board of Associates funded transportation and goodie bags for Super Girls, an afterschool program that connects Muhlenberg women and non-binary volunteers with girls at Roosevelt Elementary. Muhlenberg students organized a campus visit for participating Roosevelt students.

● The Board of Associates supported the Bow Tie Club, an organization that pairs Muhlenberg students with 6th and 7th grade boys from South Mountain Middle School. Bow Tie Club leaders organized a campus visit to Muhlenberg for middle school students, including lunch in the Wood Dining Commons.
