Kentucky played a major part in the American Civil War, as the site of the decisive Battle of Richmond, the bloody Battle of Perryville and the childhood home of President Abraham Lincoln. Today, many of these places are commemorated with monuments and museums that capture Kentucky’s compelling history and tell our story to the world.

What would surprise readers? The majority of people believe America’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, was born in Illinois. He was actually born from very humble beginnings right here in Kentucky in 1809. Considered one of America’s most celebrated presidents, Abe was influential in abolishing slavery and led his country into Civil War to do so. A proud Kentuckian until the end, he once said: “I hope to have God on my side but I must have Kentucky.”

KERRI THORPE

TOM DUMBRELL

TO: Senior Partnership Manager, Advantage

TO: UK National Account Manager, Tauck

This appointment will allow Advantage to concentrate on maximising benefits for existing members, whilst being better placed to service the increase in membership enquiries. Kerri was previously Commercial Account Manager at Advantage.

Tom will be focused on representing Tauck to the company’s key agent partners in the UK market, building awareness of the American escorted touring and river cruise brand and driving new and repeat business.

Visitors can get a glimpse into the early life of Abe at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park in Hodgenville, which features replicas of the one-room log cabin where Lincoln was born. Or, venture back in time with a self-guided tour with me, ‘LarrylikeLincoln’ and my wife ‘Mary Todd Lincoln’, as we explore the life of America’s former president from childhood to White House - perfect for those budding historians.
