THe elected officials of the cities of Glendale and Long Beach made separate yet aligned efforts to value their Filipino American constituents by issuing respective official proclamations to honor the Filipino American History Month (FAHM) celebration. In Glendale, Filipino American Business Association of Glendale (FABAG) past president Editha Maniquis Fuentes said the political leadership of the City of Glendale has recognized the Filipino American celebration since 1988, it has only officially acknowledged the FAHM without fail for the last 10 years. In the proclamation signed by Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian, the city of Glendale said it “recognizes the increasing number of Filipinos that live and work in the City and joins FABAG for their ongoing arts and culture awareness and expressions.” GLENDALE

GOLDEN CANEDO, the first grand winner of “The Clash,” a Philippine television reality talent competition show broadcast by the GMA Network. Canedo was part of a successful concert held in Arcadia last week wherein she performed with “The Clash” judges/hosts Christian Bautista, Ai Ai delas Alas and Lani Misalucha. FILIPINO priests, wearing aprons at one time, danced and serenaded guests at the recently concluded fund-raising event dubbed as “Pista sa Nayon.” Spearheaded by the Filipino Priests Association of Los Angeles (FPALA) and amply supported by parishioners and civic leaders, the Pista sa Nayon event was held on Sunday (October 20) at the Glendale Civic Auditorium. Some 800 guests attended
the event. The program started with a community prayer led by Fr. Adrian San Juan. Most Reverend Alex Aclan, the second Filipino to ever become a Catholic bishop in the United States, was honored together with his fellow priests who have been serving the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
