BENEDICTION

Raised in a nurturing Christian home in Gary, Indiana during the Great Migration, the eldest of eleven children, SISTER JOSEPHINE IVORY’s journey has been deeply rooted in faith and education. Baptized at 12 and active in multiple Baptist organizations, including the True Love Missionary Baptist Church and the Baptist Missionary & Education Convention of Michigan, she embodies leadership and dedication. Her educational pursuits span institutions such as Wayne State University, Detroit College of Business, and Davenport University, with extensive studies in Business Management and Christian education. Over a career of 37.5 years at The Wellness Plan, she balanced professional excellence with a continuous commitment to Christian learning, earning numerous certifications, mentoring youth workers, and creating impactful teaching initiatives within her church and district.

An experienced leader in Baptist conventions at local, state, and national levels, she presently serves the BM&E State Congress as Director General and contributes to Women’s Ministry efforts. Highlights of her service include supporting the National Baptist Convention events in Detroit, fulfilling key roles such as committee member for the Annual Congress President’s Banquet. Her unwavering faith is exemplified by her favorite scripture, Philippians 4:13, and her devotion to Christ, her family, and her church community. She credits God for the recognition, and expresses gratitude to the Women’s Ministry for the honor in representing Prospect District.

SISTER BRIDGETTE MELTON-STEVENS is a child of the King and is the proud mother of four adult children. She is a member of the New Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she rededicated her life to Christ in 2013. She served in many capacities through the years, and now currently serves as Sunday School Children’s Instructor, President of the Women of Standard Fellowship Ministry and Secretary of the Evangelical District Women’s Ministry. During the pandemic, she was a part of the church’s Membership Committee, where they made it a priority to ensure that no member felt forgotten. They reached out with birthday, get well, and sympathy cards to uplift and connect with the congregation in a time of isolation. After encouragement from her Pastor to consistently seek God’s plan for our lives and fueled by her love for learning, she enrolled in the Certificate of Progress Program (COPP) in March 2016 and graduated in November 2017.

Since 2002, she has been involved in the field of Community Mental Health. Following a pivotal shift in her life, she spent the next 20 years engaging, encouraging, and empowering others to recognize that God has a divine purpose for each of us—and that He never makes mistakes. She emphasizes her drive and passion for her work in life and ministry through 1 Samuel 15:22 and Micah 6:8, and says that “Service is never easy, but it is always necessary.”
