E. Carroll Joyner Park is one of the community’s most treasured resources. With 117 acres of sweeping lawns, restored farm buildings and three miles of paved trails, the park is a beautiful setting for public and private events. A magnificent pecan grove offers shade underneath its canopy for picnics. The 1000–seat amphitheater provides the perfect setting for large performances including the “Six Sundays in Spring” concert series. A smaller performance garden offers an intimate venue for weddings, storytelling and music workshops. Leashed dogs are welcome to enjoy the trails. Amidst the beautiful scenery is the new Joyner Park Community Center and outdoor playground.

Flaherty Park is a 100–acre facility that includes lighted ball fields, a playground, a dog park, tennis courts, pickleball courts and a community center. See page 9 for center information.

FLAHERTY DOG PARK Flaherty Dog Park

provides a place for dog owners to let their pets run free safely and legally without a leash. The park is approximately two acres in size and is located adjacent to the Flaherty Park baseball and softball fields. The fenced park is divided into two sections: one for small dogs, one for large dogs. Water stations, picnic tables and a pet waste clean–up station are available.

Holding Park is a five–acre site that features an inclusive playground, basketball courts, picnic tables, the Wake Forest Community House and the Holding Park Aquatic Center. The aquatic center includes a six–lane, 25–yard lap pool, two water slides with plunge pool and a children’s pool with water play.

Our dedicated and enthusiastic staff will bring stories to life using expressive storytelling techniques that captivate young minds and ignite their curiosity. Children will embark on a wonderful journey of imagination, creativity, and learning. The power of stories and the magic of crafting will combine to provide a unique and enriching experience for children ages 3-6. Tiny Twirlers: Imagination & Movement

Let the magic begin! In this playful and imaginative class, our youngest dancers (ages 2–4) will take their very first steps into the world of dance. Each week is an adventure as dancers become princesses, dragons, Nutcracker characters, spooky creatures, fairies, and more—all through movement, music, and storytelling. This class focuses on developing fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and group collaboration in a nurturing and creative environment. It’s the perfect introduction to dance, blending foundational movement with big imagination. Whether twirling with fairy wings or stomping like a brave dragon, your little one will build confidence, coordination, and a love for movement that will last a lifetime. Homeschool Dance

Homeschool Dance Program: Our Homeschool Dance Program is the perfect way for students to explore movement, creativity, and physical development in a fun and supportive setting! This multi-style dance class focuses on building strong fundamentals across a variety of dance styles while encouraging self-expression and confidence. We will learn skills and learn choreography from contemporary, jazz, and other fusions of styles where dancers will get to have a say in their creation process. Dancers will develop important technical skills to enhance mobility, flexibility, and coordination, while diving into improvisation, movement creation, and artistic exploration. Meet our Staff

Zoe Taylor currently serves as the Special Events Coordinator, assisting with the Town’s special events. In 2016, she graduated from Barton College with a Bachelors in Gerontology, and earned a Master’s `Degree in Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Sports Management from North Carolina State University. Before joining the Wake Forest team, Zoe was the Community Services Director at Community and Senior Services of Johnston County. In her free time, Zoe owns and operates a bookstore, enjoys traveling, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Taekwondo

Join our engaging Traditional Taekwondo class, which meets twice a week. Our instructor, Randy Berger, an internationally certified instructor with over 40 years of experience, will teach you the fundamentals of this martial art. Meet our Staff

Sandy Guerrero-Flores serves as the Specialized Recreation and Inclusion Coordinator. She assists in program development, implementation, and supervision of programs and events for individuals with disabilities. Sandy is originally from Clinton, North Carolina, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Parks Management with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is a Licensed Recreational Therapist (LRT) and a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Sandy brings a broad range of experience working with individuals of all ages and abilities. Her background includes developing and implementing programs in Assisted Living and Memory Care settings, as well as leading inclusive recreation initiatives in community camps designed for individuals with disabilities. She has also played an active role in planning and delivering programs within Specialized Recreation services. Outside of work, Sandy enjoys spending quality time with her son and boyfriend and exploring new restaurants.

The American Heart Association (AHA) Family and Friends course is designed to provide basic CPR training to individuals who DO NOT require certification for job purposes but want to learn life-saving skills for personal knowledge or for use in emergency situations at home or in the community. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on practice scenarios that simulate real-life emergencies, allowing them to apply your newly acquired skills. Adult Chair Yoga

Adult Chair Yoga will focus on parts of the body starting with the head/ eyes until we reach the feet, while gently stretching muscles, flexing joints, and learning good breathing techniques. For those who can, we will stand for about 10 minutes and use the chair to improve balance and back stretches. Don’t worry if you can’t stand, since all exercises can be done in seated position. Family/Friends CPR & Ask A Paramedic

The American Heart Association (AHA) Family and Friends course is designed to provide basic CPR training to individuals who DO NOT require certification for job purposes but want to learn life-saving skills for personal knowledge or for use in emergency situations at home or in the community. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on practice scenarios that simulate real-life emergencies, allowing them to apply your newly acquired skills. In addition to the standard course agenda, we’ll wrap up the session with an ASK A PARAMEDIC session. Curious about things like how to administer over-the-counter medications for overdoses, how to stop bleeding, or questions about emergency medical services in general – just ask the instructor!

Stop The Bleed

The “Stop the Bleed” training course aims to empower lay responders, like bystanders, with the skills to control life-threatening bleeding in an emergency until professional medical help arrives. The course focuses on three key techniques: applying direct pressure, wound packing, and using a tourniquet to stop severe bleeding. This training is designed for anyone, regardless of prior medical knowledge, to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to save a life. Winter Youth Basketball League

League drafts and team placements will start in mid to late October, with practices commencing within one week of these events. Games will primarily take place from December through February, 1-2 days a week. The league age is determined by the participant’s age as of December 31, 2025. Individual Basketball Training

In this program, JJ Miller trains and develops the basketball curriculum. There are also several Hooper’s Elite certified trainers who are USA Basketball licensed. This individual training program concentrates on every aspect of the game and is specific to each individual player. These sessions are typically 1 player, however, they can be up to 3 if it’s beneficial for each player. Sessions last 45-60 minutes depending on the key areas that participants will be working on for the particular day. The first session will be an evaluation session in which clients complete basic drills to assess their skill level and focus on areas of their game that should be strengthened. Players are also invited to give input on the areas in which they would like to improve. With this infor-

mation, a specific programwill be created to maximize improvement. The individual training programs include but are not limited to the following:

· Fundamentals (Ball Handling/Dribbling, Shooting, Passing, Defense, Rebounding, Footwork/agility, etc.)

· Drills (that can be translated to live play in games)

· Conditioning

· Mental aspects of the game

Hidden gems (tips and pointers only shared with participants on how to have an advantage in different areas during the game that JJ has learned through his own experiences of playing at the highest levels of each stage of his career.)

Volunteer Coaching

Volunteer coaches are valuable assets to Wake Forest athletic programs. These individuals demonstrate a selfless concern for the community as evidenced by their willingness to give of their time to help area children.

Opportunities are available to coach the following sports: n basketball (November–February) n volleyball (mid–May to late July) n spring baseball, softball and t–ball (mid–March to late June) n fall baseball/softball (mid–August through mid–October) n NFL flag football (late–June to late–August)

We strive to provide a safe environment for Wake Forest youth. Annual background screening/investigation is required for all volunteer coaches. Before a volunteer is permitted to coach in any youth league, he/she must submit background screening information and successfully pass all requirements prior to being approved to serve as a volunteer coach.

READY, SET, RUN!® is a youth running program by the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) designed for kids ages 8–13. Over the course of 10 weeks, participants train to complete a 5K while learning important life skills like goal-setting, respect, and perseverance. The program promotes physical fitness, builds self-confidence, and encourages a healthy, active lifestyle. It’s perfect for all ability levels in a fun, supportive environment. Get ready to hit the court in our 3v3 Basketball Tournament for ages 21 to 35, featuring high-energy, bracket-style competition! The tournament includes two divisions: Men’s and Women’s, offering a competitive and fun environment for all skill levels. Each team may have up to 5 players (3 on the court, 2 substitutes), allowing for strategic rotation and teamwork. Pickleball Clinic – Beginner

Pickleball is considered one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States. It is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, using a Pickleball paddle and a whiffle-type ball. Pickleball allows you to work on your balance, reflexes, and hand-eye coordination without placing excessive strain on your body. This clinic will provide the basic skills for learning how to play the game. Participants will learn basic rules, court position, basic techniques, courtesy and safety on and off the courts.

The PRCR Department offers individualized skills programs for children. Parents are only permitted to attend sessions when the instructor requires parent participation. In preschool programs where parent participation is not required, children must be potty–trained in order to participate.

REGISTRATION

Programs

Preregistration is required for all programs. Full payment must be made at the time of registration. Class registrations will be accepted up to two business days before the program’s start date as long as space is available and unless otherwise noted. Online registration is accepted at wakeforestnc. recdesk.com or at any PRCR staffed facility. Online registration closes two business days prior to the start of a program.

Athletics

Athletic registration will only be accepted during the advertised registration period. Registration for youth athletics is available online only during specified registration dates. Visit teamsideline.com/sites/ wakeforestnc. New youth participants will be prompted to submit a birth certificate.

Non–Resident Fees

Anyone residing outside the corporate limits of the Town of Wake Forest is encouraged to participate in programs but may be assessed an additional non–resident fee.

Program Refund Policy

Program fees are 100% refundable when the program is canceled by the PRCR Department. Anyone wishing to withdraw from a class that has not been canceled by the PRCR Department must request a refund, in writing, at least 10 business days before the start of the class. Refunds will not be given for withdrawals made less than the 10 business day period other than for verified medical/hardship cases.

Risk & Liability

By registering for classes/programs or athletic leagues, participants and/or their guardians understand that participating in the activities may include the risk of injury. These risks include slips/trips/falls, musculoskeletal injuries, physical contacts with/ actions of other participants, the inherent risks of inclement weather, accidents while traveling to and from events/activities, and equipment problems or failures, among others. By registering for classes/programs/athletics, the registrant/guardian is choosing for themselves and/or their child/children to participate in the selected programs despite the risks. Participant/guardian is aware of the Town of Wake Forest Release of Liability requirement for participation, and agrees to the terms set within (liability waiver is required prior to completion of registration).

Athletic Refund Policy

Anyone withdrawing from an athletic program must request a refund, in writing, in order for a refund to be processed. Fees are 100% refundable if requested before participant’s first assigned team practice.

OPEN PLAY

RecCard required

To participate in Open Play, you must obtain and show your RecCard. RecCards are required for any individual over the age of six participating in Open Play. Children five and under do not need a RecCard but they must be accompanied to Open Play by a parent or guardian. To get a RecCard, you must first create a new online registration account at wakeforestnc.recdesk.com. RecCards are free. If you lose your RecCard, the charge to get a new one is $5.
