"Home Body”

It's all relative

'Theory of Relativity' delivered a vibrant, moving look into interconnected lives.

BY SOPHIE EHRMAN There’s no doubt that it’s important for young people to feel heard and this musical achieves just that. Through a seemingly unrelated collection of songs, scenes and monologues, “The Theory of Relativity” introduces a compelling array of characters experiencing the joys and heartbreaks, the liaisons and losses, the inevitability and the wonder of human connection. “The Theory of Relativity” is a vibrant and moving look into our surprisingly interconnected lives. Whether you're allergic to cats, in love for the first or tenth time, a child of divorce, a germaphobe or simply a unique individual, audience members and actors alike are sure to find themselves in this musical.

Growing up and moving away, forging and forgetting friendships, finding love and moving on are familiar themes to any viewer. “The Theory of Relativity” builds on these themes with fresh and quite existential perspectives. Especially impressive as singers, the student cast plays believable young adults on the threshold of maturity.

Soloists such as Katie Menster, Juniper George, Lanie Schott, Isabella Korzenok and Ava Poling touched the crowd with unbeatable vocals and emotional expression. Duets such as George Turner with Coen Cox and Esme Chin-Parker with Lilly Rees achieved much of the same effect through expressions of forming and forgetting relationships.

The entire cast all together share some beautiful moments on stage through songs of unity and appreciation for one another. The musical questions the reality of our own existence in the absence of one another and makes a statement of value toward the gaze of others. We need each other in order to fully exist. Through this heart-warming message of necessity, the musical illustrates the good that comes from the inevitable and often unexpected ups and downs of life along with the relationships we gain and leave behind along the way.

The actors faced the challenge of social distancing while maintaining strong interpersonal themes. When many students were on the stage at once, they were maintaining a distance of at least three feet and the cast only had their masks removed for certain portions of the show. It was obvious that there was a massive effort to stay within the expected guidelines.

This was certainly appreciated by the audience. The comfortable atmosphere coupled with the familiar yet fresh take on the young adult experience, and the raw talent of each and every one of the performers made for a viewer experience nothing short of wonderful.

I’m watching them with my best friend and it has become my favorite movie series. But shh! No spoilers! Abigail Tracy

Fantastic food, great service

Ray-Ray's offers a quality BBQ experience

BY WYATT RIVERS Looking for a quality BBQ experience? Then look no further than Ray Ray’s, this small joint never fails to bring its hungry audience a tasty and enjoyable meal. First starting as a food truck business, this restaurant was able to expand its taste across five locations in Ohio, including one here in Granville located on 1256 Columbus Rd. The restaurant began to open its doors on April 7th and had big shoes to fill after replacing the Creno’s Pizza restaurant that had accumulated a lot of Granville fans.

Ray Ray’s uses a variety of smoked, sauced, rubbed and bulk meats that are accompanied by sandwiches, desserts and an assortment of side dishes. Their main courses contain that of pork, chicken, turkey, with a wide customization for how you want these foods to be prepared. The sides, on the other hand, are the typical universally loved sides such as vegetables, waffle fries, and breads. My personal favorite being the waffle fries. Ray Ray’s also uses a variety of sauces such as sweet BBQ, jalapeno BBQ, habanero BBQ, Carolina vinegar based, dry rub and spicy dry rub.

The employees of Ray Ray’s try to bring their customers their choice of food as fast as they deserve, but this can be intercepted by how packed they can be from time to time. On a day where Ray Ray’s has an excess of customers, customers can find themselves waiting from between twenty minutes to an hour. This may be a huge turn-off for those wanting to experience Ray Ray’s, but you can avoid long waits by going at an earlier time, possibly during their opening hour.

Overall, Ray Ray’s is a solid restaurant with many pros and fairly little cons. The service is great, the food is fantastic, and the overall atmosphere and look of the place feels refreshing and modern. Of course, the only downside to the place is not only how packed the restaurant can get, but the prices for the meals can be seen as a bit pricey for a casual day out for eating. But, this is ultimately counteracted by just how good the foods taste. Ray Ray’s Hog Pit deserves a straight up 4 / 5 stars in my book, and I would completely recommend it to those who have yet to try it out.

This new addition to Granvile is located at 1256 Columbus Rd. Granville.

'Jackbox' is a perfect party game for your graduation party

BY CARYS WILLIAMS Covid has created a need for change in the party scene. Because of this, some parties have moved on-line. “Jackbox” is the party game for these situations. It combines humor, clever mechanics, and a friendly user interface to create the ultimate leonine party game.

It is an easy game to get a large number of people to play. It accepts just about every device as all it takes to play is accessibility to a web browser. From there, you simply enter the code on the screen and a username and you are set. It is much like “Kahoot!” in its setup for players. Past the maximum number of direct players, it uses a mechanic called audience. What this does is has everyone else past the amount act as one collective body. When playing as an audience member, it doesn't feel as if you are an invisible player it feels as if your choices are truly impacting the game.

For the host of the game, it is incredibly simple to set up. All you need to do is make sure all participating members can see with A screen sharing function that also shares audio. After that pick what game you want and open the lobby.

Another good thing about the game is players can tailor their experience to their audience. With the ability to make games family friendly and vise versa you can play this with virtually any crowd.
