Breedon, one of the UK and Ireland’s leading construction materials groups, has recently expanded its equipment fleet at Tom’s Forest Quarry in Aberdeenshire with the addition of three new Powerscreen machines, supplied and installed by Blue Machinery (Scotland).
The busy site which is part of Breedon’s network of around 80 quarries, has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s and remains an important producer of granite, gravel, and sand. Today, it also processes reddish granite from Corrennie Quarry, supporting concrete and asphalt production across the region.
The latest additions to Tom’s Forest include a Powerscreen 1300 Maxtrak cone crusher, a Powerscreen 1000 Maxtrak cone crusher, and a Powerscreen Chieftain 2200 triple deck inclined screen. These join an existing Chieftain 2200 screen already in operation on-site, creating a high-performance processing set-up capable of meeting Breedon’s demanding production targets.
Owen Gourlay, Technical Sales Manager at Blue Machinery (Scotland), and Senior Field Service
Engineer Robbie Brennan spent five days at the quarry overseeing installation and providing comprehensive operator training. This included both classroombased learning and hands-on practical sessions to ensure Breedon’s team could get the very best out of their new machines from day one.
The Powerscreen 1300 Maxtrak, built around the 1300 Automax® cone crusher, delivers exceptional cubicity, high throughput, and superior reduction ratios – making it ideal for producing high-quality sub-base and aggregates. Alongside it, the Powerscreen 1000 Maxtrak, also featuring an Automax® crusher, is designed for direct-feed applications and provides excellent reduction and product consistency, with a fuel-efficient direct drive system and hydraulic release for uncrushable material.
“It was a pleasure to work alongside Breedon’s team and see how quickly they adapted to the new equipment.”
Completing the set-up, the Powerscreen Chieftain 2200 triple deck screen offers operators maximum versatility. With two double deck screen boxes providing a total screening area of 22’x5’, and a unique drive system that allows switching between 2 and 4 bearing, it handles sticky materials with ease while delivering highspecification end products at impressive throughputs.
Robbie Brennan explains how the new set-up operates:
“The 1300 Maxtrak feeds the first Chieftain 2200, producing 24mm, 16mm, and 5mm aggregates. Oversized material goes into the 1000 Maxtrak in a closed loop, before being reprocessed and passed through the second Chieftain 2200, which delivers smaller aggregates sizes of 12mm, 8mm, 5mm and dust. Thanks to the lively double deck screen boxes, throughput is unrivalled at these tight specifications.”
↑ Powerscreen Chieftan 2200
He added that Breedon’s choice to invest in Powerscreen equipment was not only about the brand’s reputation for build quality, ease of operation, and reliability, but also about achieving a consistently low cost per tonne.
Owen Gourlay concluded:
“It was a pleasure to work alongside Breedon’s team and see how quickly they adapted to the new equipment. Providing this level of training ensures operators are confident, efficient, and able to maximise the performance of their Powerscreen machines. We look forward to supporting Breedon for many years to come.”
With its enhanced processing line, Tom’s Forest Quarry is now even better equipped to meet the demands of the construction materials sector, combining the strength of Powerscreen technology with the local service and expertise of Blue Machinery (Scotland).

Tom Chapman and the team at MRD Plant Ltd recently purchased the first of the newly launched ALLU Asphalt Screening Bucket.
Tom has been a long-standing advocate for the ALLU Group brand and played an active, hands-on role in shaping the development of this innovative new range alongside the ALLU team.
The ALLU Asphalt Screening Bucket, is purpose built for processing cold milled and reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) directly on site in a single pass. Featuring a hybrid blade configuration that merges TS standard screening blades with TS Axe crushing blades, it crushes oversized lumps while screening fines, effectively producing over 95% of the material below selectable nominal sizes (12 mm, 16 mm or 25 mm). This one step operation removes the need for separate crushers or secondary screening equipment, greatly simplifying workflow, minimising fuel use and wear part costs, and reducing reliance on mobile impact crushers.
To learn more or request a demo, contact your local Blue Machinery or Murray Plant sales representative today. Click
Built for both productivity and robustness, the Asphalt Bucket supports handling rates of up to 250 tons per hour, adjustable via its Variable Drum system that enables fast, tool free blade and drum swaps without opening the chain box. Its reinforced steel frame and serrated bolt on cutting edge enhance material penetration and uptime by resisting abrasion and impact typical in asphalt recycling applications. Available in four model configurations (DHA 3-17, 3-23, 4-17, and 4-23), matching excavator carriers between 25–45 t or wheel loaders of 15–30 t, with bucket volumes from approximately 1.43 m³ to 2.85 m³ depending on the model.
In 2024, Blue Machinery was appointed the exclusive UK distributor for Green-Tec, a Terex brand focused on state-of-the-art vegetation management.
Fast forward a year, and all three Blue Machinery dealerships, Blue Southern, Blue Central, and Blue Scotland, have successfully delivered the Terex TH3 Tree Handlers to pioneering customers across the country. This milestone marks a firm foothold for the Terex Green-Tec brand in the UK arboriculture sector.
The TH3 is a compact, purposebuilt tree handler designed for safe and efficient vegetation control in
tight or urban environments. With a 12.8 m reach and 21.9 tonne operating weight, it handles tasks like sawing, trimming, mulching, and stump grinding. Key features include allwheel steering, a tiltable cab with 5.3 m lift height, and polycarbonate protection, offering excellent visibility, manoeuvrability, and operator safety for roadside and forestry work.
First machine sold in the UK Woodward Tree Surgeons were the first customer in the UK to take delivery of the Green-Tec TH3 tree handler, supplied by Blue Machinery (Southern). Based in Southampton, Woodward are a professional arboriculture company known for expert tree care services.
Back in late 2024, Director James Rolph attended the TH3 Demo Days to trial the machine. Impressed by its capabilities, he took delivery soon after. Now, several months on, James reports that the TH3 has “outperformed every other tree handler and telehandler” he’s worked with. The machine has significantly improved operational speed and efficiency, particularly for jobs requiring road closures and tight deadlines.
We were proud to showcase James's machine on our stand at The Arb Show in May, it was fantastic to see him and his team come by to support!
Ayrshire Tree Surgeons were quick to follow suit after attending the Demo Days. As one of Scotland’s most respected arboriculture firms, with over 18 years of industry expertise, they recognised the Terex Tree Handler as a perfect fit for their expanding fleet.
Company owner Stuart Leith, a devoted Rangers fan, opted to take his machine in blue! We recently visited Ayrshire Tree Surgeons working on a project in Kilbirnie, where the machine was busy clearing dense vegetation surrounding a historic castle which is being restored into a new wedding venue.
David Adam, Commercial Director at Ayrshire Tree Surgeons, added: “Due to continual expansion and increasing demand for our mechanised approach to roadside tree removal, we were in the market for a new machine with the capabilities to deliver the volumes and safety elements that our service offering required. After exploring various options, it was decided that the Terex Tree Handler delivered on all areas. Dealing with Blue Machinery (Scotland), from initial discussions through to delivery, was seamless with great engagement from Ross Kellett throughout. The machine itself has now been integrated into the business and has proved to be an excellent addition to our existing fleet of large tree felling equipment.”

At the start of 2025, Manor Tree Care ltd took the TH3 on a long-term hire after testing out the machine at the Demo Days a few months earlier. After experiencing a dramatic boost in productivity and efficiency across their projects, they committed to purchasing the machine.
Manor Tree Care operates nationwide with over 20 skilled team members, providing arboriculture services across highways, power distribution, and construction. Their investment in the TH3 reflects their commitment to staying on the cutting edge of mechanised tree care.
At Blue Machinery, we take pride in recognising the achievements of our team and supporting career development. Over the past few months, we’ve celebrated a series of well-earned promotions across our businesses.
