Animal Rescue
My family adopted our dog Pam from a rescue shelter but we had no idea where she came from or how she got there. I actually thought about it for a few days after we got her. Was she sad being away from her family or was she happy to be with me?
Just recently, my cousin was driving down the road and saw many puppies running through high grass and razor wire on the side of a gravel road. She pulled her car over and started catching the tiny puppies. There were eight puppies total but sadly she was only able to catch seven. They were hungry, thirsty, exhausted and some had been cut by the wire. Somebody must have abandoned them and dropped them off, all alone.

She brought them to my house. We gave them food and water, we held them and let them run around my backyard. I even named one “Lightning”. I was so happy my cousin found them but I was so sad we could not keep them. My mom, dad and neighbors made lots of phone calls. They were trying to figure out what to do with so many puppies. I really wanted to keep them but my mom said, no.
They ended up taking them to a shelter that took really good care of them. The dogs who had cuts on them received treatment, all of the dogs got their shots and our cousin even got to keep one of them, he named it “Letty”. One of my neighbors kept one too. They named him “Iko”.
All of this made me start thinking again about where my dog, Pam came from. Was she abandoned? Was she scared? I know she wasn’t alone because her brothers and sisters were at the shelter with her. It made me feel so happy knowing I rescued Pam and all of the other dogs would be adopted too.
If you are looking for a dog, maybe you should go to a rescue shelter. You don’t know what they went through but you can play with them and give them lots of love, like I do with Pam.
