By Ashley Inglese o, you’ve been working out? That’s

Sgreat! Oh, you’ve been super consistent? Even better! How are you preventing burn out and injury? Your recovery is just as important as your workout itself! Here are a few tips and tricks for not only performing optimally but feeling great while you do it.

Active recovery

Sometimes recovery means just purely a rest day. Sometimes we need to just take a load off and sit around. I like to plan my recovery days into my week. If I look at the week ahead and I know there is a day where there is no chance of fitting in a workout, I will plan that as my rest day. Rest and recovery are actually different though. Rest refers more to just not working out that day or taking a day off. Recovery refers to returning to a normal state. I like to go a step further and allow my recovery days to really prime my body and help me perform at my absolute best. That’s why I love active recovery. Active recovery means that you are moving your body but in a restorative way. You may take a slow flow or Yin yoga class. My favorite way to recover is by taking hot yoga in the infrared sauna at HOTWORX. It reduces any inflammation that I have, soreness from other workouts that week {especially strength training}, and allows me to stretch and foam roll which reduces the chances of me getting injured at the gym. And it feels amazing which recharges my mind and soul as well. I honestly can’t think of a better active recovery workout than some type of yoga but a nice leisurely walk is great as well. Local Businesses

You may be curious about the new businesses popping up around recovery. The good news is, there are a lot of great options available and we are getting tuned into the fact that rest is good! These businesses like Restore Hyper Wellness in Vinings or Studio Recovery in West Cobb have some awesome tools to support your body like cryotherapy, normatec, and infrared sauna. I’ll let the pros explain how these tools work but there are a variety of methods used to decrease inflammation and increase circulation in the body.

Fuel and Supplementation

Fueling your body for recovery is so important. I take a host of supplements and love a good IV drip or recovery smoothie. I’m not a licensed nutritionist or registered dietician so you would probably want to reach out to a professional for advice but if you DM me @ashley_inglese on Instagram I’d be happy to share with you some of the things that work for me. I can also give you a few referrals of local professionals who would love to work with you on fueling your body for recovery.

What’s the point of working out if it’s not fun or it hurts. I always recommend finding a workout that you enjoy rather than suffering through. There are a lot of great options out there. I love that everything at HOTWORX is zero impact and truly designed to restore the body all while detoxing and burning 3x the calories in less time. If you love an intense workout or you have training goals that’s amazing! Just be sure to build some restorative, recharging, recovery into your schedule as well so that you can keep up the pace and feel great while doing it.
