What is your favourite sport outside of racing?
Who is the best or favourite horse you have been closely associated with?
This is obviously Rugby League, which I played very competitively until I had a bad knee injury at about 21. Hence my nickname “Rugger”. I’m still a keen follower.
I’ve been fortunate to have been associated with some great horses but a particular favourite is Mnemosyne who was the first Encosta de Lago to sell for $400K. After that great sale result I watched her go on to become a multiple Gr.1 winner, fourth in the Slipper and joint top 3YO filly in Australia. She’s since become a multiple group producer, her current star is Impending.
What is special for you about horses? Horses are great animals to work with, I get a lot of satisfaction from watching the whole development process, from foaling, to weaning, through the growth phase as weanlings and then the process of taking the yearlings to the sales. From there it’s exciting to get a good sales result and then hopefully see that turn into racetrack success. How would you summarise your draft this year ?
What is your favourite movie? Shawshank Redemption and Apocalypto both great. What one single event would you have liked to witness? I would like to have seen Cathy Freeman’s win in the 400 metres at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000. Who is the person who has had the biggest influence on you? The biggest influence on me has been my dad Sid Anderson, who was a great all round horseman. He worked on several leading studs including a long stint at Robrick Lodge, where he had great success for the White family. I learned a lot from him and it has stood me in great stead.

This year I’ve got a great even draft with a nice spread of leading proven and first season commercial sires. Many of them are out of beautifully bred young mares from strong families. We are committed sellers and I’m confident we will have something to appeal to a wide range of buyers. What are some of the best known mares that reside at your farm? There are some great mares on the farm including Gallica a dual Gr.1 winner by Redoute’s, she won the 1000 Guineas and SA Oaks, Rosmarino who is the dam of the brilliant multiple Gr.3 winner Van Pensiero and Condesaar the dam of Yankee Rose who just became the first filly to defeat the colts in the ATC Spring Champion S. before a gallant third to Winx and Hartnell in the Cox Plate.
