THE BLUE LAMP TRUST

Bluebird Care partner with the Blue Lamp Trust; promoting the Bobby Scheme in Hampshire.

Everyone wants to be able to stay safe in their own home for as long as possible. However, the issue of personal safety and household security is often not discussed and only becomes an issue if that safety and security becomes compromised.

In Hampshire (and soon in Berkshire we hope) the charity, the Blue Lamp Trust, runs their 'Bobby Scheme' to reduce crime and the fear of crime, helping people to feel safe and secure in their own homes.

The Blue Lamp Trust is based at Hampshire Police and Fire HQ. It offers a free, practical service for older and vulnerable people, helping to make properties safer and more secure, for example after a burglary, by replacing locks and fitting door chains and spy holes.

They also install and replace smoke alarms and give advice on how to make homes more secure.

For a donation they will supply and fit keysafes & wireless video doorbells.

How does the Bobby Scheme work in practice?

If you are eligible you can contact the Blue Lamp Trust on 0300 777 0157 to book a free home safety visit, They will conduct a home safety and security survey on your property and can provide a range of free and paid for installation of safety and security equipment.

Alternatively speak to your Bluebird Care Assistant and they will support you to complete an online form to book your visit.

The Bobby Scheme installers are trained, uniformed, Police vetted and carry ID. You will always be advised of the name of the installer before they arrive at your property.

BLUEBIRD CARE APPOINT TAMSIN HUDSON AS THE COMPANY’S FIRST DEMENTIA CARE ADVISER

Tamsin joined Bluebird Care in August as the company’s first Dementia Care Adviser.

This appointment puts Bluebird Care in a unique position and further demonstrates our commitment to provide outstanding care to people with dementia.

Tamsin previously worked for Age UK in Oxfordshire in a similar role and runs the popular Dementia Cafe in Newbury. She is available to Bluebird Care customers and their carers to give tailored guidance in how to live well at home with dementia. Through adapting living spaces, or sharing tips on communication and reducing distress, Tamsin’s specialist advice will help families be better equipped to support those living at home with the condition.

Tamsin developed her specialism in dementia care after her mother’s diagnosis in 2012. Without a dedicated guide to navigate everything that a dementia diagnosis entails, from accessing Carers’ Allowance to interacting with those with dementia, Tamsin educated herself through a series of professional qualifications to make her time with her mother as enjoyable as possible.

With over 1,600 over-65-year-olds estimated to have dementia in West Berkshire alone, connecting people to support and making sure they have access to personalised advice is more important than ever.

Tamsin will be working with families, supporting Bluebird Care’s team of home and live-in care assistants as well as running support groups for family carers.
