| Schuylkill County Office SCHUYLKILL COUNTY GENERAL 4-H LIVESTOCK & DAIRY RULES Amended March 2021 by 4-H Educator

The following general 4-H livestock & dairy rules apply to Schuylkill County 4-H members and supersede all prior rules. General 4-H rules in the Schuylkill County Fair book shall apply in addition to: 1. Members must have passed their eighth (8th) birthday as of January 1st of the current year and must not have passed their 18th birthday as of January 1st. 2. 4-H Enrollment: members must be registered with the extension office by March 31st for NEW or RETURNING club members in order to exhibit animals at round-up (Schuylkill County Fair). All 4-H members must attend 75% of their clubs scheduled meetings by June 30th. In order to exhibit, meeting attendance requirements must be met. New members will be accepted after March 31st, but these members may only be allowed to exhibit in the general entry building at round-up (Schuylkill County Fair). They will not be permitted to exhibit an animal. You must pay your required membership fee at the time of enrollment. 3. All livestock and dairy members must attend one quality animal management training (QAM) annually whether it is in their project county or in another county prior to their Round-up each year. If the member does not, they may not exhibit that year. This is a state 4-H rule, not a county rule. 4. Any person wishing to exhibit in livestock and/or dairy must complete the online registration for livestock and/or dairy July 1st. 5. Members must carry a 4-H record book for each type of animal project exhibited in 4-H livestock and dairy. 6. Members who exhibit 4-H projects in fairs and/or round-up shall compete in all 4-H classes for which they are eligible, including fitting and showmanship classes. 7. The total number of market animals that can be exhibited, shown, and sold is 4, with the following limits for each species: a. Swine-2 b. Market Goats-2 c. Market Lambs-2 d. Pen of Rabbits-1 e. Market Steer-1 f. Dairy Beef-1 g. Roaster Rabbit-1 8. Weight allowance: Upon weigh in at the fair, livestock (market steer, hog, goat, lamb and dairy beef) animals will be given a 5-pound weight allowance under and over the minimum and maximum required weight. As for market meat pens of rabbits, they will be given 4 oz. weight allowance per rabbit. The roaster rabbits will be given an 8 oz. weight allowance.
