OLD BOYS/ ALUMNI XI VS BLOXWICH CC XI

T20 FIXTURE– 7th July 2023

T20 FIXTURE– 7th July 2023
A huge welcome to our 175th anniversary fixture and thank you to all of those in attendance, in whichever capacity you are here!
Every single player representing the Old Boys tonight have been an absolute pleasure play withwhich is the point of club cricket. If you are watching, can you guess who is who as we take the field and I employ the umbrella field again tonight!
1. I have over 70,000 club runs and well over 1,000 wickets on display, it’s just that the vast majority were accrued before 1999!.
2. “I once had a bat throwing tantrum when given out by a white haired, runny eyed, pale skinned and frail old man, only to learn that as a younger man he had been a Battle of Britain spitfire pilot. Sometimes younger men don’t see it (“and why would they? The kings dead, long live the king”- Old and wise cricketer)
3. A master of practical jokes who whilst batting had retribution wrought against him in the form of his coffin turned into an aquarium complete with archway, green plants and a real goldfish
4. A great cutter of the ball who spent all afternoon sitting under one of the cherry trees gazing at the clouds having headed the ball for 4 when facing one of the Worcestershire leagues best fast bowlers- concussion before concussion was a thing!
5. A man who played after a double eye transplant
6. One of the Warwickshire and Staffs leagues best fast bowlers
7. One of the Birmingham Leagues best seamers
8. One of England’s best indoor cricketers
9. A Staffs CCC and Staffs Clubs XI all rounder
10. An all rounder and fearless fielder whose arms resemble the bloke in the Fantastic Four films who can stretch unbelievably, think today’s sliding ground fielding before it was a thing.
Recruitment was difficult in 1919, at least they could blame WWI!
