Trail Neighbor: Age and Activity Reported Table 68 details trail neighbors who use the trail by age and by use. The most frequent users are between the ages of 45 and 65 (35%) followed by 25 to 44 (30%). Trails are least used by 12 to 18 and 19 to 24 year-old neighbors at a combined 14 percent. The most common primary usage by trail neighbors is for recreation (57%) followed by health (33%). This is in stark contrast to trail users who were surveyed. 72% of trail users (as seen in Table 12) said that physical activity and health reasons were primary reason for using the trail while only 23% said that recreation was the main driver of their trail use. This likely corresponds with the differences between biking and walking among overall trail users and trail neighbors. Trail neighbors are twice as likely to use the trail for commuting (10%) than overall users (5%) with users in the 25-44 age range leading the way. 20% of that age group uses the trail primarily for commuting. Ease of access is clearly a factor for trail neighbors who commute on the trail.
